Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 7:51 am

Oh yeah, this demo is awful and I have no wish to get this game

I'm enjoying the combat. Just because its more fast paced doesn't mean its bad. However, the game is too easy on normal. I'm going to play it one level up from normal at first, the first time I've done that to be honest.

Overall, I like the demo and I can't wait to play the game.

I just played the PC demo.

All I can say is, if Bioware succeeds in getting 1 million people to download and play the demo, they will be well on their way to selling 1 million copies. (I just checked and they have already reached around 330,000 downloads.)

The demo seemed to be partially the same as the version I played for a few minutes at Comic-Con last summer, where I got to fight the Ogre and some darkspawn.

However, at 1920x1080 resolution, in DirectX 11 mode, with much higher res textures compared with the Comic Con demo and SSAO, it was gorgeous projected on the living room wall from my 1080p projector. Can't wait until the full Steam version is unlocked. The PC demo seems to have a number of higher video settings that are locked, but should be available in the full game.

I played a Fem Hawke mage, unchecked all the tactics for all the followers and used pause to micro manage every action by each character.

Most important, across the board excellent voice cast and writing. This is where Bioware shines, so I was expecting this to be the case. The art direction and character design were tremendously well done.

I was very impressed with how the dev team managed to design the game in such a way that the fps stayed quite high, despite playing on my laptop in 1080p with Radeon 5830M video card, with textures that were clearly higher resolution than DAO textures. The only point where the frame rate seemed to drop a bit was the cutscene after Flemeth's appearance when there were lots of flames on the ground. Which still looked gorgeous, despite the lower frame rate.

i do like how hawk talks in this game, it was my big complaint in origins, but i guess it wouldn't work in origins because of all the different races

Well, he wants MILF Flemeth, not the hag from the first. There're roughly twenty years of difference. ^_^

Yeah, she went from being 80 to 60.

Yeah, she went from being 80 to 60.

At least she didn't enter transwarp and go from human to small, four-legged amphibian.

Wait, the demo is available on the PC? :brokencomputer: Ugh I just spent hours downloading it onto my PS3, didn't even get to play it. Guess that's a good thing, considering I have a geology test tomorrow.

Yeah, she went from being 80 to 60.

And found the time to change into a different....outfit, let's call it that, sometime shortly after dealing with the Gray Warden from the first game and then returned to her shack and peasant clothes.

The rogue is insanely fun this time around, the guy hops all over the place.

I don't know if the cooldowns were tweaked to make the demo easier to play, but it seems you can almost continually teleport behind bosses to backstab them over and over.

I dont liek the new rogue much, I havent got backstabs anymore (actual bonuses from backstabbing not this activated BS), and dexterity no longer makes me dodge attacks.

WTF happened to Dragon Age? I played DA2 demo and it has become a crossover of GW and ME.

Guess that saves me like € 50

I just played the PC demo. I own DA:O but never beat it. It caused issues with my processor that scared me. Ran hot and maxed my cores out. While running on both cores, the game was stuck at mid settings and no matter how many sliders I played with, nothing changed, my CPU ran hot and the graphics were crap. I had to disable a core to get the graphics to work correctly and I still ran hot at 100%.

DA2, or the demo for it, was insanely fun. More fast paced than what I've played of DA:O (About 20 hours total across a couple characters) The game ran beautifully. Stunning graphics with awesome frame-rates. I was skeptical going it because of the single character concept as opposed to the different origins. I gather the story line will be rather epic. The fighting seemed a lot smoother too. The new UI is clean, very clean. I love it. The demo completely changed my opinion of the game and I'm certain I'll be getting it (A week or so after it comes out to ensure the same CPU issue isn't reported) I can't wait to have this game.

Couple questions about the demo:

How big is the file? (Thinking of popping home at lunchtime and starting the download so it will be ready when I'm finished work....)

Does the demo include the new character creator?

Ta muchly.

The file is about 2GB or so. Just a touch larger, it seems.

The demo does not include the character creator, unfortunately. Nor does it allow you to access the inventory. But you can see the screens, or at least part of them, and they're very clean. I'm in love with this UI.

Your not getting it on release, or your not paying $60 for it?

Very underwhelmed with the demo. They made some very weird decisions in what to disable for the demo. I mean, come on, even the friggin inventory?

I came in with some low expectations hoping to be pleasantly surprised by something at least, but after this demo I would even hesitate to pick the game up from a bargain bin sale.

Well, I admit I was a bit... reticent about DA2 when I found out you had to be human (I enjoyed being a murderous midget), but I'm really impressed by the demo. Combat is more fast paced, and intuitive once you spend a few minutes with it. And I love the new Flemmeth (Good to hear Kate Mulgrew reprised her role). If Bioware can do a better job squishing the bugs than with DAO (A nice little hang-up while loading a cut-scene made me restart the demo), I see this as a solid game.

I'm definitely playing as a Female Mage my 1st time through. I don't really like the Elemential Spells this time around since they got nerfed.

I've always played as a magic user in games that allowed it, I doubt DA2 will be any different. I thought that the way they handled their staffs was a little too showoffy fro battle, but, as usual, the Rule of Cool seems to be in effect.
