Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:54 pm

Finished the demo, I take back everything I said (about gameplay anyway) I can sense many people saying "I told you so". Combat is good, allthough the AI isnt best, I died once or twice when one teammate jsut stood there getting attacked, so I switched to them, seconds later my rogue hawke took on an ogre all alone... Yeah. You dont have auto attack, so you do feel like a button masher though but thats easy to get over, also fem hawke looks amazing meaning I dont need to work on a custom character, not even change her hair, so bonus there.
I dont like the voice acting though, as much as I love the steryotypical british accent, it feels weird them sounding so posh all the time.

But at this point I am commited to not buy it until the goty/ultimate (already lost dlc, may aswell save my money, also broke atm anyway) , so I will post in this thread for a bit, but when I see people have the game I will stop posting for a bit.

Grapics svck though, characters look rough around the edges (litteraly).

Woohoo!! 0.2/1.9 GB after 71 minutes!

. . . .

Ahahahaha this is very entertaining for me,apparently now the server crashed.
Allthough I was pissed at the slow DL speed.

Combat seemes a little overly flashy to me, might be just for the rogue though. It was still pretty decent though, I liked the effects of the abilities even if I'm not mad on the animations. I don't like the default friendly fire settings though, having repeated fireballs landing right beside my character that do nothing to her seemed stupid. That stupid blood-streak kept appearing on my character's nose during the cutscenes, I hope that's changable in the full game.

Camera seemed to be locked to the selected character and didn't zoom out very far at all. I hope there are options for that I just didn't notice.

Seemed good enough overall, but I still don't plan on buying it anytime soon, demo didn't change my mind on that.

Edit: Forgot about the GUI. Not a fan of that, seemed quite dull and uninteresting looking. Parts of it just look lake cells in a spreadsheet pasted into the image.

I think the voice acting for Dragon Age 2 has been announced and it's an ok cast.

I think the main thing that really annoyed me was not being able to move the camera up or away from the character. It made combat annoying sometimes.

The rogue has very over the top animations. The warrior wasnt too bad, excpet the huge 2h sword is swung as though ity was a toy... Kinda annoyed me.

Also the mage, dear god those spell noises, sound terrible, like a laser beam. Pew, pew, pew.

Almost done downloading, and I don't like what I am hearing so far about the combat.
DA is so awesome, why did they have to change everything.

Downloading the demo. I'm pretty skeptical, especially about the combat, based on what I've heard so far. Too much fast flashy action. We'll see how it goes in the demo.

I really don't know what should be so bad about the combat. A demo set to low on standard isn't representative of the difficulty, and besides the removal of waiting periods it doesn't play any different from how I played Dragon Age. Yes, the isometric perspective usually wasn't much help to me. It just didn't work most of the time in this 3D environment.

Seems to be pretty similar combat to Origins, with added coating of eyecandy. Faster, definetly, but the pause button still works, so no problem there. The UI works much better than i initially imagined, simple yet functional. The cutscenes and voice acting seem to have a lack of emotion in them, everyone sounds like MaleShep :P

BTW, i tought DX11 was disabled for the demo? Still it's possible to engage it from the launcher, but it causes severe stuttering and graphical artifacts. Did anyone else try it?

Seems like i'll be losing yet another 50€ to EA on march :hehe:

i played the xbox demo, the writing was so tiny and blurry, i hate my sd tv. Overall pretty fun, mages feel more badass. I haven't played the rouge yet, so i can't say one way or the other on that.

Did anyone else have trouble on the second ogre boss? i had to switch to his sister, and run around lobbing fireballs after warrior hawk and shield girl hit the dirt lol. Also i love the narrator, makes for a good framing device.

I should probably dl the pc demo since i'm getting it for pc. As long as there is a auto attack it should be fine anyways. I also like the voice acting for hawk, big improvement to being a mime with written text in my opinion,

I am getting this on release day for sure

Thats how m fight went, just running in circles casting fireball, then second playthrough I kileld it easy.

Also that one issue I hated, the writing was hard to read, especially abilities menues and inventory.

Oh my god. This game is going to be amazing. I love how the mage's staff attacks work. Rather than just showing his staff at the air he/she swings it on various directions. It looks amazing.

I was on PC, but it wasn't the combat mechanics that bothered me, it was how juvenille and thoughtlessly easy it was.

Dammit!!! My game keeps freezing whenever I press "start game" to play after the fake character creation.

@Faldom : You are aware it is a demo, right?

Isn't the demo set on the easiest difficulty?

Refer to my previous post, that's all I can say now. The demo is apparently the same as the E3 one, unbalanced and everything. Very likely not an indication of what to expect in terms of difficulty.

Animations were bad, I didnt care about how they moive the damn staff, my rogue spent more time in the damn air than on the ground. AAnd dont get me started onj kicking the [censored] bottles, who the hell thinks of this stuff.

Normal.

Its on normal which is too easy imo. normal on origins seemed harder. Maybe it was just nerfed for us to enjoy the demo

Ah. Makes me think of Mass effect 2. Normal was way too easy, but I imagine the upper levels will be more difficult.
