Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 1:04 pm

are there others like me who, after playing the demo, feel like dragon age 2 is going to be like the halo 2 of the series? you know, a lot of "why the hell am i still playing this?" moments, and the whole thing not even remotely close to being as good as its predecessor?

please tell me i'm not the only one....

I thoughtpeople liked 2 ?

I still can't believe people are trying to justify that as all plausible. They claim the horde was trying to be tactical, so they cut off Lake Calenhad and attack from the north? lol Wut? Why would you do that? You could escape and flee to Denerim if they did that. Okay so if they were smart they block the Denerim road by cutting across the forest. LOL WUT!? Then they can go around by lake Calenhad. So if they really wanted to be tactical surround the damn place so they can't go anywhere, but apparently that's too hard to think of. Not to mention it would mean having a smart opponent. Nope easier to activate ludicrous speed and warp hundreds of miles north east somehow through forest without road and perfectly block the [censored] hawk family who waited for the beasts to surround lothering on the western side. It's just not making any sense to me. What an ass pull to get them to go and see Flemmeth.

Edit
They don't deserve the last name Hawk. They're getting downgraded to the Bawk family, they can work their way back up from poultry to bird of prey once they earn some brains.

Who would go to all that effort for lothering ?

They deserve to be downgraded. The only plausible reason I can think of them being that slow is because they left when they saw that half of Lothering was destroyed. Hell, the Warden was unconcious for a little bit of time after Ostagar and still made it to Lothering before it was destroyed. If the Darkspawn were moving so fast as to stop the Bawk family from continuing North, then 2 years for the Warden to stop the Blight is ridiculous. Bioware has confused me. How fast is the Darkspawn invasion?

2 weeks iirc.

Are you trying to insert logic into a Bioware game? Seriously? Recall the Battle of Ostagar, where seemingly only the "unintelligent" Darkspawn figured out how to use catapults, and apparently, trebuchets?

And the "inteligent" army decided to leave the fortress, release the mabari against infanty (pointless) and then retreat for no reason.

Silly me. :P

Hey wait.... did they use catapults and trebuchet's when attacking Denerim? Is confused again.

Forgot to mention that there was a funny thread on the Dragon Age forums. The family flees south into the darkspawn, after a few hours od debate we all came to realize. There was no reason for them to flee south. How long would they have had to wait for the darkspawn to cut them off to the north? Are they just that [censored]?

Edit
Ah, here it is. http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6113727/1

I think this just sums up how [censored] of an ass pull it was to have them flee south. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b146/bolebeau/map.jpg

Those darkspawn must run at the speed of light or something.

Obviously, they needed some excuse to be alone and not be with the other refugees had they gone north (or east, or west, or anyplace that common sense would dictate). For, uh, "dramatic" reasons.

Okay, seriously, what the hell happened? Seems that between DAO and DA2, Bioware is failing hard on every one of its previous strong points. Where they originally had good animation, DA2's are terrible. Where they originally had decent dialogue, what's been seen in the demo so far has been utterly horrid. And where they've at least, in the past, managed to hide some aspects of their nonsensical storytelling...right at the [censored] beginning, logic's been thrown out the window. What happened? Did pod people replace the devs or something?

Since this thread is already here I thought I'd just ask a couple questions about it here rather than open another thread.

Lately I've wanted to try DA, but I just haven't been in that medieval fantasy mood lately. Though I sort of prepped myself up for it with something a little more subtle (Mount and Blade) and I think I'm ready to try it. Though in regards to Dragon Age (so I know what kind of game play I'm getting into) would anyone say it's comparable to Drakengard or Devil May Cry?

Final Question, would you recommend Demon's Souls or Dragon Age? Because I've been looking at both of them.

You've already made your decision, which is fine, but just to add...when you do eventually get Dragon Age, go for the PC version if you can. Both it and Demon's Souls were effectively tied as my Game of 2009. But the console version of Dragon Age, however...terrible, just terrible. Playing it for 30 minutes just left me frustrated.

1. Go to BioWare forums.
2. Read this http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/5682342/7
3. More specifically, read this illuminated quote from one of the writers:
Yes! This! You guys have no idea how cute Merrill is. I work here and and I still squee when she says things I haven't heard.

There's a lot of this in the writer pit:

Merrill (in-game): (something unbelievably cute)
Sheryl: GIGGLESQUEE!!!!! SO CUTE!!!
Mary: Hee hee.
Sheryl: She's so adorable I love her and want to hug her omgIcan'tbelievehowadorablesheisCAN-I-NOM-HER-HEAD?!
Mary: ... No.

4. Sell all BioWare games.
5. Feel purified and clean.

Uh, and these are considered some of the best writers in the industry.

I have never cared for romance in games, BW games are terrible for it *pick nice option 3 times then have six, get achivement and ignore that character* least that was how it seemed to work out.

There's always been a character like that in BioWare games. Tali, Leliana, and that clumsy elf healer in NWN whose name i've forgotten. Nothing new

Tali was the annoing, low self esteem, geek that so many BW [censored] seem to want to fap over (if a thread has 9000 pages, and thats the 3rd thread, and you see a Tali doll, and other creepy stuff, I am going to assume its not just one or two creeps). Leliana was insane, not cute, the eyelash thing is weird, (which reminds me need to romance more people in DDAO for m achivement). And never played NWN.

Right but this is THE setting premises of all of Dragon Age 2. Plot reasons I'm sure even a horde of dumb darkspawn can win and look menacing and still be slightly plausible. Dragon Age 2 sets it's whole plausibility meter by the very first action in the game.

Edit
They also didn't cover up this excuse for a plot. Let's face it, in a book we expect things to happen. It's how well and subtle you can blend in some glaring things so the readers accept it as plausible. Bioware really messed up bad on this part this time around. Though this is some sloppy writing for the sequel.

Origins would've been really boring if Calian and Company won at Ostagar, I'm glad they did that plot twist for the game.

Thats it. I'm calling shenanigans on bioware.

waving something shiny in front of people saying, "Hey if we 1mil downloads of our demo, we'll give you this." then saying... "oh we've had spammers, so we are going to knock back the counter a bit"

there was 800,000+ about 7 hours ago, now there is almost 1.2million, and they are saying "CONGRATS! WE DID IT! NOW YOU GET THE SHINIES!!! but wait... if you do THIS, now we'll give you ANOTHER one!"

I'm not your [censored], bioware. I'm done with the dragon age series. If you do the same crap with ME3, I'll never buy another one of your games again. :swear: :flame:

wow, that's taking their social marketing campaign a bit personally, no? :cookie:

Even if you don't do anything, as long as 1,000,000 other people "like" that page on facebook or whatever, you will still get the third book unlocked.

Why waste money on marketing when you can get the people market it for you with a practically no-cost in-game trinket? Devious EA, devious :goodjob:

Regardless, i have three extra items for a game i haven't bought nor pre-ordered yet, so i can't complain. Can i?

Tali was the annoing, low self esteem, geek that so many BW [censored] seem to want to fap over (if a thread has 9000 pages, and thats the 3rd thread, and you see a Tali doll, and other creepy stuff, I am going to assume its not just one or two creeps). I don't see Tali fascination anything special either, i bet it's not the first, nor the last time people have developed unhealthy amounts of obsession for a fictionary character :D Anyway, i somehow see those characters filling the same stereotype. Maybe it's just me, though  Actually "stereotype" is the wrong word, but can't really come up with anything better, either.

The promotion is stupid and so are the items, but it's still a petty and dikeish move on Bioware/EA's part.

I saw a bit of gameplay video on another site and I gotta say, Anders is (censored) Awesome :celebration: :celebration: :celebration: :celebration: :celebration:

The way he goes into Vengeance mode is sick. It's kinda similar to going Super Saiyan but without the hair change. I'll give a brief description of the video that I saw.

Crossbows aren't the only bows you can use, you can have Longbow type weapons

Anders is awesome

In your house you can order supplies like Health Potions, Poisons, Runes. You'll still have to pay for the supplies though. There is also a email/letter type system. It's similar to what Awakening had with the lady in front of the keep only it's an option on a desk and you'll interact with it more often.

I saw apparently that the guy had Blood Dragon Armor in storage. I'm not sure how that got in there.

Your families faces change, We already know this but seeing Bethany with short hair was kinda confusing at 1st.

It isn't so much that. Its the amount of dlc they are throwing at people; sign up for a newsletter, get a staff; download the demo, get items, order merchandise from this epicweapons.com and get a ring; play their facebook game, get items; buy Deadspace 2, get armor. That isn't including the pre-order dlc if you order from ea.com or wherever. If EABioware used the ES system of weight, Hawke would be over encumbered before s/he left Lothering.
