Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

The gameplay seems boring and repetitive and the story didn't do anything for me.

Yea, I tried it out on 360 because I didn't want to deal with EA servers, and wasn't thrilled with having to spam the attack button. However, I do know that the PC version gets auto-attack - not that it actually improves anything. It makes me wonder how many previewers actually played the demo, and how many of them were too blinded by the over-the-top animations to notice just how boring combat in DA2 has become.

My mage was a case of cast spell 1, cast spell 2, spam staff attacks for 20 seconds, rinse & repeat. And occasionally kite around. It's as though Bioware went out of their way to implement the worst of mmo combat mechanics.

You would think with people saying "OMG hack n slash" they would make it so you dont have to mash buttons on console...

The gameplay seems boring and repetitive and the story didn't do anything for me.

Only 1 thing I liked ffrom that demo, the art, not the gameplay art, but loading screen,s like the intro in origins all the paintings and symbols, and flemmeth and that 3 headed snake thing with that guy.
Well it saves money, money I can use for other games, like skyrim, which will hold my interest until other games, drop to bargin bin, have new goty editions with all the content, then I can pick them up pre owned.
Its likely I will be doing this regularly now I see BF3 has an "expansion" for free if you pre order. I am glad that Skyrim will eat up time because for bleeding me trying to get money I will make sure the devs see [censored] all of my money, if they want any of my money, they better sell the whole [censored] game regaurdless of when I buy it.

On the brightside atleas Avelines animations arent like the rogue animations so over the top it pisses me off, kicking flasks, constantly backflips, Hawke indeed because of al lthe tiem I spend in the air.

I replayed the demo for a second playthrough, once that I got used to the camera and controls, it's not that bad anymore. Playing as a mage was interesting experience, but ... I don't like my brother! I want to choose which sibling to sacrifice to the ogre!

Honestly, what the hell did Bioware do to Dragon Age. I mean, I'm not even sure I'll call this a sequel to the first.

EDIT: Probably has been said before but I still can't believe this.

Dead certain.

Comparing DA:O with DA2, listing DA:O's first:

Winter's Grasp: 8s vs. 20s

Cone of Cold: 15s vs. 30s

Fireball: 10s vs. 20s

Petrify: 40s vs. 45s

Walking Bomb: 20s vs. 30s

Horror: 20s vs. 25s

And FYI, Heal has a 60s cooldown timer.

Are you sure about heal because I'm pretty certain it's 40 seconds, also Crushing Prison is down to 30 seconds from 60 seconds. Yeah they did nerf Mages a bit but they had to I mean look at Origins, Cone Of Cold plus a Critical hit equals a very easy fight.

Too many spell cooldown timers were extended, even doubled in some cases. And yes, the cooldown for Heal is http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Heal_%28Dragon_Age_II%29. Bioware did more than just nerf mages, and watching a mage twirl a stick does not equate to fun gameplay.

You can't. The curse of the Hawke's, probably. I figure that the templars will later aim for "the one apostate Hawke", and thus *insert Highlander quote*.

Played it again with a male mage to verify Sojourner's critisism which seem to be true, but i don't see that bothering me that much. It's about using the correct spells at the correct times at the correct places since while they're cooling down you're limited to weak staff attacks. Tactics, in other words ;)

And i think i like male Hawke's voice more than lady Hawke's. Now i'm very confused

I like them both, really. Though Lady Hawke seems to have a better agressive delivery, where Mike has a better way with the snarky lines. The diplomatic ones are about equal.

Yup just saw that healing takes 60 seconds to recharge hopefully their is equipment out there that reduces cooldown times. I'm not sure on Group Heal I think that might be 40 seconds but I'm not sure. Healing's not important anyway, it's a useful skill but I'd rather blast enemies with magic. Not to mention that the game has position markers like Mass Effect 2 which is sweet. :celebration:

After played the DA2 demo I re-installed DA:O and picked up playing my mage again. I'm not worried about the min/maxing aspect. I just want to be a badass. So I picked Bloodmage. I hear Spirit Healer goes good with that, but that seems to kick badassery in the nuts. I've just finished getting the urn and I'm now going to Orzimmar.(Sp?) I'm thinkin' small enclosed tunnels + mage AoE = win.

EDIT: Oh neat! I got a star! Wewt!

Actually it's small tunnels + Glyph Explosion + AoE = WTFPWN! :D

And in case you didn't know, Glyph Explosion = Glyph of Paralysis cast on top of Glyph of Repulsion. Results in an explosion that paralyses enemies and allies in a large radius. Use at distance. Doesn't matter whose glyphs those are either, cast a GoP on top of enemy's GoR to turn his spell against him

Just got a look at the first talent for the spirit healer spec: Healing aura (sustained) disables offensive casting while in effect. (Gamespot video) I'm rapidly losing any interest in DA2.

Group Heal is on a 40 second timer, but the kicker is it requires http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Group_Heal_%28Dragon_Age_II%29 to be active. So, you have to choose between playing a heal bot or doing some damage.

Yea thats the other thing, the over the top animations with a bunch of enemies coming at you reminds me of Dynasty Warriors.

Well, I was underwhelmed. Didn't like the voices for any characters (especially Hawke's voice actors), found Flemeth to be the only interesting character, did not like all the petty drama situations that kept popping up, and the graphics are really bland. At least I was never excited for this game, otherwise I'd be disappointed.

Well it is only a demo. I'll reserve my full judgment for the full game.

I didn't really like either of Hawke's voice actors though, however the female voice annoyed me less. Good job, BioWare, I guess.

I'll judge it right now, thank you very much, seeing as it is a 50 dollar waste of space if I buy it and it is terrible.

Let me put it this way: Bottle of Tylenol is recommended for playing this game on console.

It was kinda small but I had no problems reading it. Of course that may be because I played the game on my 40" TV.
