Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 5:52 am

Bioware is going to do another demo today at 4pm EST. They will show off the DLC with Sebastan and they will show off some of the character creator. I personally can't wait until then.

First thought: "DLC? ...Does he mean another one of those silly pre-order DLCs or...?"

*googles "Dragon Age 2 Sebastian dlc"

*checks DA2's release date*

*jaw actually drops*

Oh look there goes some more of my respect for Bioware out the window...

You can loose a bit more, becuase tha article is wrong, that dlc has been knon for some time, it was cut content kept for those who pre ordered the signature edition.

I think I first read about it in january.

I kept the link because I think it's right about them only recently announcing it to be available for purchase by everyone, not just those who pre-order the signature edition, making it a full blown DLC. The fact that it was cut at all is bad by itself, but now that they're selling it to everyone, it's a much more disgusting move in my book.

I was initially bummed that the Exiled Prince DLC wasn't available with the Steam digital pre-order. Only because I prefer to purchase all my games through Steam, as the EAStore is sometimes very slow for downloading.

But after hearing that the same DLC is available as a separate purchase, I don't understand why people are complaining about Bioware for doing this.

The game stands on its own without any DLC. We all knew that there would be several DLC releases for this game, and anyone who wants a version including all the DLC can simply wait for a year and buy the GOTY or "ultimate" edition.

Like IN ME2 they have a dlc "arrival" kinda obvious what it is, its a key plot point, and a "bridge dlc" a game shouldnt have to have dlc as a bridge, especially key plot points.

You dont undertand why...
BW are CUTTG GAME CONTNET, making you pay more for less. Its pretty easy to understand why people are pissed, and its easily justified.
Yes there would be dlc, dlc is a OST RELEASE thing, ADDING CONTENT. Not taking it, this is taking it, and charging extra.

Its sad gamers are letting devs do this, sadder they are defending them, sadder still is that we basically say "[censored] yeah more dlc thanks guys, I love paying extra for what should be ingame content".

Huh? Why do you feel this DLC is something that should be in the vanilla version of DA2?

Because it was completed at the same time the main game was completed? Or some other reason?

I'm pretty sure I will be able to enjoy playing the game without the Exiled Prince DLC and it will not feel like something was cut out of the game, or that something important is missing.

From reading the description of the Exiled Prince DLC and watching the trailer, I see nothing to suggest that this is something that should have been included in the vanilla game.

because it was announced while they were still working on the game, it was obviously planned, and look at Shale, BW isnt below this crap.
They did it with Zaeed and Kasumi n ME2 aswell, they were on the disk.

By your logic aslong as its not part of the main plot it has no reason to exist and is justifiedas dlc, so only morigan and alistair being in DAO everyone else as DLC woul be fine ?

Sure I would love it if all the DLCs were included for free, but I understand why they are sold separately.

In any case I'm excited that this morning I was able to download and pre-install the game.

I suppose I have to reserve judgment on whether or not it feels like a complete game without the DLC until after I get a chance to play it Monday night.

Spoiler
They added Nathanial too! Bioware really are intent on [censored] up things that should remain seperate, instead of ruining them make new characters, damnit I liked him.

Elves look ugly as hell now :( Well I still need achivements in origins, so I will just wait for DA2 to drop before picking it out of the bargin bin, and judging by alot of things, wont be long.

No idea what that is ? But it sounds like the BW fanbase allright, when I visited the forums any post that wasnt brown nosing BW was flamed, apparently criticising the game makes you a troll...
I hate that place, the sad thing is they constantly [censored] about halo/CoD fans being like that, but they imo are worse than them.
Never seen a halo fan keep yapping on outside of halo forums unlike BW fans.

This is EA we're talking about here. They've been doing it since the Need for Speed Carbon crap they pulled, with no apparent backlash, locking content on the disc and charging players to unlock it! lol  DLC in EA-speech translates to words like 'exploit', 'lucrative', 'easy money', 'rip-off', 'theft'... '$$$$$$$$' and '£££££££££', and '%%%%%%%'.

... stupidly fleeing south toward the Darkspawn ("for no raisin!"). Yeah, DA2 has its work cut out for it if it wants to impress me with its story.

Ha ha. I lol'd. Been a while! *skips off to watch Futurama* :D

The Warrior Specializations are awesome. Templer is an absolute beast and will basically shut down an opponent's mage. Reaver's good with Dealing damage and other things like a Drain Health ability although that ability takes 2 minutes to recharge (Lame) or 100 seconds if you upgrade it (Still Lame), and Berserker uses Willpower like Crazy and does extra damage equalivent to I think it's 10 % of your stamina. It's going to be tough to pick 2 specials for your warrior because all 3 are good.

I have a feeling DA2 will be even more linear than Origins. Another rental, just like Origins.

EA can milk the game, and they know it.
Really I find it funny people always say CoD players are robbed and are stupid for givng them thier money, yet BW does the same with dlc and they love it.

Perhaps because, if you dont play COD then you dont really play Activision games. On the other hand, EA has their greedy little mitts in a bunch of cookie jars. When they're not ruining companies; Pandemic, Bioware. They're nickel and diming, double dipping and generally just scheisting their 'fans'. I never really played COD, except for the first one on PC, so Activision's 'evil' never bothered me. EA is definitely the more 'evil' company IMO.

Yeah. You know what annoys me about DLC and added content though? It's how it's pushed in your face without consent. They change the end product to annoy you. They change-up menus should you ever play the game while online, or install a new EP. You get an updated Main Screen or UI with bits missing or faded out. Like say, if somebody playing The Sims or something goes ahead and buys the base game, and they don't bother with three or four expansion packs because they don't fancy them, then they see one they like, and when they install it they get a new in-game menu with about five greyed out buttons for the expansions that are available, but that they don't have. Their UI resembles a broken remote control with half of the buttons missing.

Was like booting up Neverwinter Nights and having a main menu with greyed out screens or an entire new background of a character from an EP you didn't own. Shadows of Undrentide 'NOW AVAILABLE'. lol You play DA:O and click a location on the map, only to be introduced to what is essentially an in-game canvasser with a clipboard going, "You want to see this new adventure? Click here and give us some cash. We know you probably know about this new content already, but if we make your game appear broken or half-finished by putting bits of content into it, focus groups have shown we get more paying customers coming our way."

Shouldn't be allowed.

It'd be like the dealership you bought your car from changing the colour of your wheels one night, and when you get up the next day and go out to your car you see adverts for low-profile tires right there on your alloys, that are now flashing blue with little LEDs. "I didn't pay for this? I was quite happy with the original wheels as they were." Be like having fake buttons added to your dashboard that when you press you get an in-car audio announcement saying, "You have pressed the fake Air Con button we added while you slept! Your car does not have this feature, but press the new "Buy Now" button located under the passenger seat now, and receive the Air Conditioning and a free supply of Magic Tree Fresheners! Press today and we'll throw in some psychedelic seat covers!"

Its more about who exactly is a LI for who.
Spoiler
They changed the 2 hetro and 2 bi companions in DAO, now all 4 are bi... Seems kinda odd to me that everyone will want to bang Hawke, worse than ME2.

I can imagine starting the car up and having to wait five minutes for the commercials projected onto your windscreen to stop before you can actually go anywhere. "GOOD MORNING DRIVER! Its stupid, they took the issue in ME2 where everyone wanted to bone shepard, and made it WORSE.

ANd having all of them do that is just not realistic, put 4 random people in a room, you will be highly unlikely to get those results.
I dont like it, it just renforces my idea that its fanservice and maes the game a crappy dating sim or something like that.

Only if you talked to them three times :hehe: Though in ME2's defense, the lines that initiated the "romantic pursuit" (?) were pretty obvious.

As for DA2, once again depends how it's implemented. If each of them throw themselves at Hawke at every possiblity, that is stupid. But seeing how their previous games required the player actively pursuing the relationship, i doubt it. Well, there was one that line at the end of the demo, but that seems to fit characters personality.

I would disagree with that, at least as far as triggering them. I've never actively pursued a relationship, but still found myself having to turn people down left and right. The problem is that they set up a system where making characters like you gives them stat bonuses, and who doesn't want that? Plus you have gifts, which are fairly useless to you outside of giving them to people, so you barely even have to try to raise their disposition. Even evil characters generally want to be nice to their party members, to improve them and keep them from leaving, and automatically-triggered conversations when you have a nice character are almost inevitably going to lead to them liking you more. The "romances" are terrible enough without my entire party falling for me because I wanted them to svck less.

I disagree you'll have plenty of talent points to spread around the different skill trees. I'm guessing around 30 skill points, 25 from levels, 5 or more from the Skill Books.
