Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Well, Ratslayer, I'm not overly surprised.

Spoiler
Bioware already retconned Leliana's story once before with that stupid DLC.

And don't worry, if and when Bioware gets around to DA3, we'll find out DA2 was a dream....or something.

I havent played that dlc, what does it change ?

I cant wait till we see the Qunari retconned in the future "yeah they werent unique looking like demons so we changed them".

BW svck at consistancy and yet manage to keep the general plot the same.

Someone has to update that cliche chart when DA2 is released.

Does anyone know if fast travelling is still used, as in the first game. I'm not a fan of linear RPGs anyway but even walking fixed paths between locations was removed from the original. In the end all the fast tavelling ruined the game for me?

DA2 is going to be even more linear and feature more fast-travelling.

The original Darkspawn looked like a cross between Dungeon Siege 2's http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2100/2497981424_ceb78ed9fe.jpg?v=0, and the bad guys from http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_C_8M2WVWfgM/ShsfjNlFA-I/AAAAAAAADHk/W_lqK-Yowr8/s400/galaxy+quest+insect+commander.gif. lol

I hate the new direction the DA franchise is taking. It had so much promise. I won't be buying DA:2. Stream-lining RPGs to the point that they're not, oh BioWare, how the mighty are falling. Hard.

Seeing how Origins used a map node system, all traveling is "fast traveling"

Oh, and

DN: Do you worry about alienating the fans who made Bioware so successful, the people who have been following the company's work since the days when you were a PC RPG powerhouse?

Gaider: That's the challenge. Your average RPG fan, the person who is hardcoe – and I can understand where they're coming from – you look at the games that are coming out and you have a fear. A lot of them are PC fans, and you see the thing you're interested in as a group. You feel like you're being marginalized.

They react to any perceived change as bad. Anything that potentially means that they're not being catered to specifically, they react badly at. The idea is to reassure them that maybe it's not as bad as they think. The idea is to make it accessible without losing what makes the RPG special.

Sounds about right given the reactions to DA2 so far :hehe: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/2011/03/03/2011-03-03_qa_with_dragon_age_writer_david_gaider_.html?page=2

I liked the original Darkspawn. They were grotesque and something you wanted to kill dead, fast. However, Bioware decided they looked too much like orcs from another franchise, so decided to make them look like Skeletor, instead. I couldn't help but laugh my way through the skirmishes in the demo, and found the apron-wearing emissary even more comical.

The majority of my more than a dozen characters were dual wielding rogues and warriors. It was, for me, far from impossible to maneuver into position for backstabs. Enemies getting in the way worked both ways; one might interfere with my attack, but getting the enemies to bunch up and interfere with each other helped my pc out as well. My party members didn't get in the way; amazing what pausing to manage your party can accomplish.

I've seen people comment on that quite a lot actually. Even one of the dev interviews said something along the lines of

"We've improved combat...speeded up actions...it's now possible for people to play a rogue in DA2 the way they want to, using their speed to maneuver around the battlefield and backstab distracted enemies",

which surprised me quite a lot since that was exactly how I played my first character and I never had any problems doing so. Sometimes I think they're retroactively making up problems to justify the changes they make.

Edit: random typo that completely reversed my point.

Yeah, I liked 'em too. Heh. But even if I didn't I can't see reasonable justification for changing them from one game to the next. lol Either drop them completely or stick with your original design and concepts, BioWare, sheesh! Mind you I can't can't see reasonable justification for "Mass Effecting" the dialogue and character creation, doing away with origins, and binning a choice of varying races and a plethora of role-play experiences in a world where, "... interracial tensions are a fact of life." (from the DA:O manual)

... s'gotta have something to do with ME fans picking up Dragon Age with its "From the makers of Mass Effect" blurb, only to find the protagonist isn't delivered on a plate and fully-voiced. The overly-vocal crowd who swamp internet forums and who lead designers read and go, "Hey you know what we should do? We should cater to their every whim and completely frack up our relationship with about a third of our Dragon Age: Origins fans! That's the way to go. Awesome!" lol

Since the Undisputed Heavy-Weight Champion of RPGs (imo) has given up the belt to take the title of linear, action-adventure type championships. I hereby crown Bethesda Game Studios... UNdispuuuuuuuuuted Heavy-Weeeeeight CHAMPion of the Woooooooooooooooooooorld! Uh-let's get ready... foooooooor Skyriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmmm!

I seen a picture of Sten. What did they do to you? You look soooo [censored] old. Least they didn't jab some stupid horns on your head. I love how merciless they are at destroying their own lore. They don't even make an attempt to stay consistent.

Most of the game is going to be in the city. If they do the same as DA:O, hitting the door or gate will bring up the map so you can choose where you want to end up, like Denerim. You may be able to choose whether you visit an area in the daylight, or at night, but I don't think they'll be doing open ES type world traveling in this game.

@ Mana_Garmr: perhaps not exactly retroactively making up problems to justify changes, but taking what should have been minor changes to the extreme. Getting rid of or minimizing the shuffling that sometimes happened wouldn't have been a bad thing. They just went way too far in the opposite direction for me.

As for the darkspawn; the originals looked blighted, diseased, and threatening. The generic zombiespawn don't. Maybe its the perfect teeth, but they don't look as though they are blighted, or that dangerous. If anyone played the Kasumi dlc for ME2, the ogre statue in the vault looked more threatening than the ogres in the demo.

So far it seems that every change they claimed to make in order to make the game more unique has made it more generic, imo.

There is a picture of Zevran the computer console wizard types pulled out of the demo files in the spoiler thread on Bioware's forum. I will grant you that taking a screenshot when an npc is speaking will not give you good looking results. However I want to know if a side effect of speaking for elves is having their ears go back and out to the side, like a cat that is starting to get angry. Cause if I recall how Zevran looked originally, his ears did not look like that. For that matter, the revamped elves all seem to have the lop-ear bunny syndrome and exceptionally pointy chins.

I guess the whole hot-rod samurai look is wasted on me.

Link?

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6266554/65 When I clicked on the picture my immediate reaction was "...http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_yny2N7heiXY/TOcyg1PY3tI/AAAAAAAAAYw/mZVBRNqRMf8/s1600/dobby.jpg?" Granted upon closer inspection the only real similarities are the ears but that's just the comparison I made the instant I first saw it.

The reason I even have that link is actually because I was looking for that picture of Sten you mentioned... do you have a link to that?

It does look like Dobby. Is that Zevran? Soooo ugly... what the hell. Did he take some lessons from Ogrehn? Anyways I only caught that Sten picture in passing, I found it somewhere in the tail end of the neogaf forums link I have on page one.

At the end of DA:O the party group-hugged for a job well done, and the affection literally svcked the life from him.

I love Dragon Age Origins and the DLC.

But Dragon Age 2 is the biggest pile of butchered garabge I have ever seen.

Pretenious bull story. Only one race. What kind of freaking make your own character game has only one freaking race!

There is no Dragon Age 2.

It is Mass Effect In A Fantasy Skin With A Stolen Name. The only thing Dragon Age about it is the stolen name.

It does not deserve to be called Dragon Age 2.

Bioware are acting like desperate idiots.

They deleted all comments about MEIAFSAASN that were not fawning and pathetic. Anything else was 'bioware bashing'. Anything that the slightest bit critical about that garbage was deleted.

They would delete all negative comments on facebook too, but they cannot as much. But I think they have.

They desperately spend the entire time saying 'it is good, it is good' repeadedly in the hope that repeating the lie would make stupid people buy it.

They clearly paid for good reviews. They were too fawning and pathetic to be real reviews. Reviewers are not that nice. Even about good games.

They obviously hacked whole chunks out of the garbage and made them dlc to trick people into preording the garage.

Then added more and more 'incentives' to get people to preorder.

Preorders clearly make good sales charts. Even if they get mass returns. Which they will, I am sure.

They put at least 3 updates and desperate promotions on facebook every day.

I am not buying it. My interest in the Dragon Age series ends with Dragon Age Origins.

If they continue to be like this garbage, there is no more Dragon Age series.

whoa, calm down. I mean i can see some of your points about character customization, but i don't think its as bad as you think. We don't even know the story yet, atleast they have a good framing device for it.

Free stuff makes good marketing, way cheaper than ads. I don't go to their forums, but even if they do delete comments and such, it is their forum. That won't ruin da2. What reviews have they paid for? The game isn't out yet. Also you can't return games, stores won't take them back, and steam doesn't do refunds.

I'm sorry you don't like it, hope you find something you do

Baldur's Gate

Uh, where you could play a human, an elf, a half-elf, a dwarf or a halfling? Plus a half-orc in the second one.
