I've put about 12 hours into DA2 on PC so far since last night (which pretty much means I haven't done much else). The game looks great on the highest settings with the texture pack. Haven't run into any bugs at all. I wasn't really too excited for this game after playing the demo, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it. Combat is unimaginably better, although it takes a lot less strategy now that AOE spells don't damage allies. I don't see it having a lot of replay value though. It's fun, but I can't imagine enjoying playing through it again, even with a completely different character/party. Overall, the difficulty is way too easy on normal, and the story is boring, sidequests are pretty mediocre and you basically just follow a quest marker and kill things. There are plenty of good quests and the characters are all fairly entertaining.

The story is boring?!!! :shocking: That's one of the main reasons to buy a Bioware game!

I like how the "I am not buying the exiled Prince" thread was locked. Classy BW, censor any complaints that the fans dont drown beneth posts of "troll" "troll" and well thats all I see them post today when I see criticism.

Apparently you haven't played a Bioware game in a long time. Boring, drawn-out stories are their thing. If what I've played so far is just the "intro" phase, then yeah, the story could be good. But it's been 12 hours. I get the feeling that it's going to be like ME2 where it feels like the game hasn't REALLY begun yet, but I'm 20 hours in, and just have one final, climactic quest left. It just hasn't felt grand yet. Nothing like DAO.

I did not like the demo and I hear there are a lot of bugs (in comparison to DAO). I'll wait on this one.

The story does move pretty slow, i didn't really notice any cut and paste enviorments, I love the over the top action, i got some sword from steam...it looks like a metal twoxfour with three handles, when i equiped it i wanted to see how hawk held it.

i gotta say combat is way funner in da2 than in da0, also the heal spell seems to have a quicker cool down in the demo

Elves look kinda like aliens now, their noses are really weird.

Haven't noticed any bugs yet, but im only like 4 hours in

Well, trust me, they're there. They use the exact same cave interior filled with different enemies quite a few times for completely different locations. If the caves need to be different sizes, they just make it so a door can't open. You can see on the minimap that the cave is EXACTLY the same as one you've been to before, but half of it is blocked off because they only needed a small cave this time. Truly lazy crap.

The french reviews are really tearing this game apart, considering that anything below a 70% means "unplayable" these days.

Certainly poor reception for a Bioware game. Worse than I was expecting, anyway.

Installing now. :)

With everyone's comments I'm going in w/ lowered expectations. I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless.

Hmmm Rouge or Mage.......I can never decide.

Do you want to hear laser pew pew beams or see exaggerated acrobatics?

I liked rogue in the demo since it ripped up darkspawn.

From what I've been seeing in the gamefaq forums, you'll want to avoid mage. Some are complaining mages are so underpowered that auto-attack does more damage than spells. And spamming staff attacks gets old fast.

Well, Bioware set a new low. This game could have used another year of development to be honest. Hopefully no other releases this year will be so disappointing.

I was wondering if anyone could explain the poor graphics with the Dragon Age series. I recently played the Mass Effect 2 demo on my PS3 and BioWare seemed far more capable of producing good graphics with that game than with Dragon Age: Origins or its sequel's demo. I also noticed a bit of stuttering with Dragon Age 2's demo.

it seems that the PC version got the bells and whistles in terms of graphics on this game.

if you get a chance to try the high res texture patch for PC at 1920x1080, DX11, with SSAO, detail settings very high, they textures and visuals pop out much more stunning than ME2. Some of the textures were not improved, but most were greatly improved - a few wall and stone textures surpassed even some 4096x4096 Oblivion texture mods.

I was surprised that they somehow managed to deliver a great frame rate on a mediocre video card, maybe better optimization for 64-bit systems?

I know they'll make the equivelant to a GOTY, an Ultimate Edition or whatever. And btw I'm not hating DA II, I actually don't have all the complaints people are making, but c'mon Skyrim, LA Noire, ME3, The Witcher 2, even some exclusives like Uncharted 3, Killzone 3...even Arkham Asylum  it might get an award from some site or magazine but my bet for 2011's GOTY by major mags and sites are truly Skyrim, ME3 and LA Noire :)

Eh, this PC I'm using is a piece of crap. It's not going to be able to run any game nearly as well as my PS3. I want to know why the PS3 version seems so lackluster in the graphics department, however, and why its predecessor did, as well. Other PS3 games make Dragon Age games look pretty bad... including Mass Effect 2's demo. An RPG of mine similar in gameworld design, Final Fantasy XIII, also easily tops Dragon Age in the graphical department. What's going on with this series?
