Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

I toyed around with the paralysis glyph in the demo and I have to say it is pretty cool to execute.

I'm very glad Todd mentioned that Skyrim will have glyph spells.

Regarding the friendly fire comments - this is only active on nightmare difficulty, which is fun and challenging in large part *because* of the friendly fire. You really have to play your best tactical game.

Is the demo any different than the game?

That's weird, with my 1GB GTS450 and Dx11 enabled it runs a like a half of a frozen snail going uphill. With Dx9 and all best settings it runs perfectly. And i don't see even see any graphics details missing. And this sytem runs the new AvP with Dx11 without a hitch.

What is "Tesselation" anyway? (From videos i've seen some sort of super bump mapping?)

Same here. Just looking at the fire makes my laptop choke to death. :sadvaultboy:

Hmm.. could it be that my Intel X18 G2 SSDs or 16GB RAM are somehow helping to improve the frame rates with high res texture files?

usually they only seem to help with load times, and most games don't seem to use more than 3-4GB RAM.

If your spells are hurting your allies more than your enemies, then it's your own damn fault.

Because I control my ally mage whilst using my main character at the same time. I didn't know you could do that.

Stop them using things without you activating them, done.

It's called pausing. Or programming better Tactics if you're too lazy to do that.

That's what pause & play combat is for. No need to worry about it anymore - DA2 is full-on hack & slash now.

Program tactics around spells designed for 2 or more enemies in a game that has more melee enemies than ranged, where most of the time its up close and personal? I can see the convenience in that.

@ Rat

Thats what I do, not put points into those skills which in effect, makes them useless skills.

Not useless imo, cone of cold is a good skill.

So how much difference does this texture back make ?
Damnit BW I am on console, and these graphics are ugly, so was origins but the xbox can be much better than what we have see in the demo/game.

...And?

More melee than ranged? Arguable, but the ranged enemies are always always always more bothersome than than the close-range ones, and they tend to be clustered together anyway, so I don't know what your issue is. Not to mention there's an abundance of area-of-effect crowd control spells with no friendly fire (like Sleep, Blood Wound, Waking Nightmare) that can hold them (and anyone else for that matter) in place long enough to follow up with some spells that do direct damage against groups.

I've been playing this game all morning, i gotta say its pretty damn fun. Varric the dwarf is probably my favorite character right now. The story is pretty good so far, it just seems that it isn't going anywhere as i run around doing work for the guards or whoever, although maybe it'll start moving faster as it goes along

I tried playing a bit using the tactics and without constantly pausing, but it was more like watching a movie than playing the game.

I prefer pausing and micromanaging every single character action (with all tactics disabled). However, it might also be fun to try a solo playthrough without pausing and without using any companions.

... BW are [censored]s. The xbox can have amazing graphics, the graphics on the 360 could be so much better no excuse, just BW being [censored]s or lazy, mix of both, w/e they are its BS.

Meh, well. It *is* actually a bit too linear than Origins. The combat(while with nice exaggerated animations) seems... streamlined too.
But hell, I would be lying if I would say that I am not having fun with this game. It seems lore-heavy too and that's always a plus in my book.

Guess it's the benefit of not having any big expectations before playing. :celebration:

EDIT: Oh, and Nicholas Boulton as Dude Hawke simply ROCKS. I also like how Hawke does the little smirk during his sarcastic responses or after teasing his sis'.

For people who have it, are there any choice quotes like "I want to be a dragon" from the demo?

I am requesting news sources for the following claims as I can't find any:

The auto attack feature accidentally left out in console versions.

The DA2 Importer not working correctly.

Bioware's own forums. I've already linked the dev post on the auto-attack problem in an earlier post. Information on the import problem is taken from the readme file included with the PC version, confirmed to be a potentially game-corrupting problem on multiple platforms by players.

Chris presly (SP ?) works at BW said so.

The threads on the BW forums, its not just 1 person, its a bug, a bug that was in witch hunt too, so its not farfetched. Also they found some notes about it iirc

I've put about 12 hours into DA2 on PC so far since last night (which pretty much means I haven't done much else). The game looks great on the highest settings with the texture pack. Haven't run into any bugs at all. I wasn't really too excited for this game after playing the demo, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with it. Combat is unimaginably better, although it takes a lot less strategy now that AOE spells don't damage allies. I don't see it having a lot of replay value though. It's fun, but I can't imagine enjoying playing through it again, even with a completely different character/party. Overall, the difficulty is way too easy on normal, and the story is boring, sidequests are pretty mediocre and you basically just follow a quest marker and kill things. There are plenty of good quests and the characters are all fairly entertaining.

Chris Priestly wrote...

OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

We apologize for this. It was meant to be in game, but it is not currently in the console versions. We are working on how best to distribute this to console users. When we have information, we will let everyone know.
