So tonight I was in the middle of playing through Portal for the umpteenth time when my roommate asked me if I was going to be taking the day off on Tuesday for DA2 like I've done for Reach, New Vegas, ME 2, and a couple other game launches. I told him no and that I was actually thinking of canceling my pre-order. He was perplexed, and asked me why I would do that when I clearly enjoyed killing time with Origins and seemed so excited for this game?

So I let him play through the demo.

His response after finishing it, "Ehh.... Portal 2 is coming out pretty soon, right?"

:shakehead:

Ah well, I got a good chuckle out that. :)

Still have to wait till Friday. Or thursday midnight? But having things to do at Friday, that doesn't help much.

I've yet to play a game that i would hate so mcuh i couldn't finish it, so i am not at all worried. Especially after the demo.

I feel disappointed right now but I still think it's gonna be a decent time killer until the the really good games start coming out later this year.

pre loading da2, when exactly is it playable? If it lasts for atleast 20 hours i would say its worth the money. I'm fine with most of the changes, haven't read the spoilers, (thank jesus for my iron will) But i'm sure the story will be bearable, if not decent

If you are referring to the Steam version, my guess is that it will unlock at 12:01am PST tonight.

I'm of the same mind, I enjoyed the demo and at around 11pm tonight I'm sure I will be madly checking my Steam library page to see if it is unlocked.

It was also interesting to learn that Bioware has more writers on staff than any other developer - but this makes a lot of sense considering the depth of story and the sheer lines of dialogue in DA and ME series games, as well as some of their older games.

From what I understand from the Brent Knowles' blog post, his main gripe was the fact that DA2 had a story with a pre-defined player character, as opposed to a more generic story allowing for different sorts of PC origins. I don't have a problem with this, as I really enjoyed the way that the The Witcher handled this in a non-linear story, for example.

nice! thanks for posting this!

Do you know if we need to wait until the game is unlocked before running the patch, and whether this patch automatically works with the Steam folder paths?

I'm really hoping Bethesda might consider a similar solution for high res textures in Skyrim.

Bad news for 360 and PS3 players:

Chris Priestly wrote...

OK: Here is the story.

Auto-attack option for consoles was added in to the games late in the development cycle after the initial certification build was sent. The auto-attack functionality was sent to be added to the game for testing and approval. This was why staff said it was in game.

Due to an error during mastering, the auto-attack file was omitted during manufacture.

What incompetence. They can make a whole character complete with story arc and sell him separately on day 1, but they can't get a basic (and what will most definitely be necessary) feature down pat.

The readme file reportedly lists a slew of bugs in the game, including some bugged talents and some quest-breaking bugs. (Gamefaq forums)

Now, don't everyone start thinking that maybe the game was rushed or anything...

Well atleast its not cut and turned into dlc...
But BW really are quite pathetic when you look att what they did, cant even prioritise.

Best part isthis makes it feel more like a hack and slash.

Also not BWs iming, lots of people have games shipped already no refunds, [censored] you bioware, this timing is too convenient, obviously they dont want to risk sales.

Sojourner is it worse than Awakening ? Becuase that was terrible.

I dont see the point of a day one buy for this, if its like awakening you will need the wiki to find a way to get through some parts without bugs, like sigruns quest... Notg a bug, just stupid [censored] design, let me disable the option of a companion quest befroe even meeting the companion *mumbles*

The auto attack is a goose egg in Bioware's face. I don't mind that it's not in the game but for them to say that it was in and now won't be in, is very disappointing. This won't change me getting DA2 since it's still going to be an awesome video game but I doubt I'll buy any more Bioware Products after Mass Effect 3 and certainly not on the day it comes out, I'll wait for more reviews/feedback from other people before I would buy other future games from them. Also no video game is ever going to be bug free and the ones that are bug free are usually the type of games that pale in comparasion to RPG giants like BGS.

Is it just me or does Dragon Age II's art direction seem to lack... Proper lighting and shadows. I don't know. It seems like they just kicked the contrast up to 100%.

Agreed, while overall graphical quality is good, art direction is seriously lacking, imo. And I'm underwhelmed by the cinematics I've been seeing on YouTube from leaked gameplay.

That was okay, but the murder-knife scene after was unbelievably lame.
