I have a question, is Awakening a standalone expansion?

Wow, the act 2 ending was excellent! I hope third one keep it up. And seeing what happened to Merril (the "good" version, "good" in sarcasm quotes), it seems Hawke doesn't have the exclusives rights to tradegy.

I must say, not including the tedious filler parts the story is damn good in this game.

And remember kids, http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/595805657248201561?tab=public :P

... I hope you arent a representation of BWs new target audience.
http://i55.tinypic.com/2hxyudk.png

I don't know what there target audience is but I found that funny.

Dragon Age origins was a phenomenal game in almost every respect, it's few short comings such as graphics and scaling are easily overlooked by the rest of the game- and even 180ed by mods that fix said things. Dragon Age 2 however, was an abomination on many levels- and absolute mockery of Origins i have little good to say about Dragon age 2. I only finished Dragon Age 2 because of my love for the first game, i wanted to at least have an idea of what happened in that really bad and short game. I loved the Dragon Age universe, and the first game- it's the only thing that kept me playing to the end.

The gore was an extreme eye sore, there was no realism to it- and it was just ugly to watch. DA2 was and is a mockery to the first. Game informer summed it up best as "On all platforms, Dragon Age II caters to an audience that didn’t connect with Origins, while alienating those who did"

I've already sold my copy to my friend, who also hates it and yells to me even though i only charged her 30$ for it. I got what i wanted, a save file.

Well that is your opinion. I find Dragon Age 2 to be much better then Dragon Age Origins. Excessive gore is something I like, I don't look for realism in video games so when blood is spraying all over the place I enjoy it alot :P. And I don't believe it alienates those who connected with Origins because I loved Origins it is one of my favorite games. But Dragon Age 2 is just so much fun to play it has already become one of my all time favorites and I haven't even beaten it.

I agree gore makes it look terrible, its bad enough in origins but here, damn so OTT, GI seems one of the more honest reviews.

It is bad to love a rushed game?

Just asking

Its bad to give 10/10 becuase you worked for BW yes. Loving it is one thing, what he did was another.

BW new targets are people who are amused by blood and swearing. Apparently they are also interested in the CoD audience so I await the ME3 [censored] ups.

Well then I am most definitely one of BioWares new targets as I am largely amused by blood and swearing. And if ME3 has CoD elements then boy oh boy will I love that game.

Indeed, we are all complete and utter idiots, scum of the earth...

I will admit, the gore is excessive at times, I don't think it detracts too much from the experience, freezing a target and having my warrior companion shatter them is satisfying. The swearing I have no problem with at all, in case you missed it, people swear. I would find the world of Thedas far less believable if it had no swearing of any sort, that's for sure.

I've played through it once as a mage, I'm doing it again now, still as a mage because I found a handy program that can generate DA1 save files, allowing me to play with an import. I have DA:O on the 360, so being able to create a save file that's pretty much how I want it makes the game even more fun than it was before.

Overall I feel that the characters are somewhat weaker, the story is somewhat disconnected. On the opposite side, combat is much smoother and flows much better, making it far more enjoyable and less of a chore you have to do before you can get back to the talking parts (Which are obviously the best parts, not much of an RPG if I can't roleplay after all). Overall I'd say the game is just as good as Origins, they both have faults in different areas and they seem to be pretty much opposites in that regard, here's hoping DA3 will manage to get the best of both sides to trump both games.

ME3 could have CoD elements becuase they are interested in the audience, also they were looking for MP devs, + ME2 being made into a tps, allows for gears style MP, and its the end, after the reapers what will youi do ?
Also its EA now, they added MP to deadspace, which seemed even less likely than ME2.

I dont mind people swearing in certain games, but for me it could take away from the atmosphere in games if they are set in medieval fantasy worlds.

Combat I dont like, becuase its spamming A until powers recharge, not exactly fun.

So I got the game and plowed through the first act so far, and am enjoying myself. Its definitely not as good as origins, and I hate the reused caves. But its still not without its charm.

Is it worth it to download and install that high def texture pack even if I'm running on DX9?

And has anyone encountered any game-breaking bugs that should be noted?

Even with the faster pace combat, I still pause and micromanage every character like in DA:O and old-gen PC RPG like Baldur's. lol

Yes and no respectively. Though one bothersome bug is that after being resurrected characters don't seem to re-engage in combat.

I pause because of the faster pace combat. I don't micromanage other characters though, the tactics take care of that. Haven't yet found a situation that proper tactics setup couldn't cover.

So i finally setteled with a character that made it past the Deep Roads. Arcane, Primal, Spirit Healer and Force Mage. Offense, defense control and support all in one package.

Damn I just finished a certain "gauntlet" type of battle / sidequest looking for a certain evil book. That was intense!, I'm playing on hard BTW. Easily one of the more challenging battles so far, much more difficult than any of the boss encounters so far, at least IMO. I almost put the side quest on hold until I leveled further, but I swapped tactics to 2 ranged rouges + support mage + tank.

For those who have been this far, how did you tackle this encounter?

I'm actually pretty impressed with the DA2 ranged rouge. Not the most exciting build, but you can really rain down the damage and or become a great crowd controller. And I love how arrows have some stopping power to them. :).

Just finished it myself at 26 hours. Unintentionally rushed the final act, there would've been some more hours of content there.

It's shorter than Origins, i remember it took about a week with pretty active playing to get trough :D

Mass Effect 3 has been confirmed by the developers to contain no multiplayer.

Got the game yesterday, really enjoying it so far, not too similar to the first in the way it plays though.

Today I realised I was entitled to the Black Emporium DLC, I was lured in by the prospect of a re-spec potion. I regret most of the talent choices I've made but don't fancy playing through again to change them. How exactly do you use the DLC though, I've been online and redeemed my code on the Bioware social website, I've logged in to said account on DA2 and loaded up a game. The only discernible difference is a new chest with some cryptic tomes in...

Anyone care to nudge me in the right direction?

Assuming you've downloaded and installed the Black Emporium, it will appear as a new location inside Kirkwall.

I'm about 14 hours in and I just finished the Deep Roads, and now I'm absolutely bored with the game and don't feel like continuing. Companions are flat and boring, and the side quests are dreadful.

how is this possible - are we playing the same game?

I didn't even START the deep roads until about 45 hours into the game.

Perhaps you are playing with tactics enabled and without pausing during combat? Or did you pay Bertrand as soon as you earned 50 sovereigns, skipping all the Act 1 side quests?

I'm 60 hrs in and just made it to the Ancient Rock Wraith in the first Act - so far it seems that the first playthrough will last much longer than Origins, and the gameplay feels much more balanced.

This first playthrough will not last quite as long as a Bethesda game, but I estimate it will probably be 100 hrs or more to complete, which is excellent in my book.

Game informer summed it up best as "On all platforms, Dragon Age II caters to an audience that didn’t connect with Origins, while alienating those who did"

I'm sure this is true for some, but in my case, I loved Origins and I'm really enjoying DA2 so far.

Of course Morrigan, Oghren and Alistair were lots of fun, but I like the new characters as well. They all have some depth and complexity to them. This is not any sort of half finished rush job, at least in terms of the story and the characters. (I understand there are some serious bugs that occur when using Maker's Sigh, Myrthal Potions, and Isabella's passive Haste ability.)

The recycled maps sure, it is lame, but I don't mind it too much. I suppose the fact that the story and dialogue is very well written and the performances are excellent across the board makes up for this problem.

And the gameplay balance is the best of any RPG I have ever played. Nightmare mode in DAO was a joke because you could simply spam healing potions to get through anything. Nightmare mode in DA2 kicks your ass! Hard mode is really "HARD." DA2 is a much more tactical game than DAO.

I started playing Nightmare and I had to drop down to Hard for most of the battles because I died so many times and it was taking forever to get through the demo area. Still dying often on Hard mode. I think it would be almost impossible to beat without frequent pausing and micromanaging.

I'm playing with the following settings, constantly pausing and micromanaging each character action

-all tactics off except sustained modes like Summon Mabari, Lyrium Ghost etc.
-Passive behavior setting
-Hold mode

Though one bothersome bug is that after being resurrected characters don't seem to re-engage in combat.

I have been frequently resurrecting dead party members with Anders "Regroup" spell. They re-engage in combat without any problems.

I made sure I did every single side quest. Wasn't very fun, but I made sure I did it.
