Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

I wonder why, seeing as Varric is exaggerating everything else in that scene... :P

Not to mention that everything Varric told the Seeker could very well be a lie or an exaggeration. Bioware did this on purpose. In an interview with 1up I think. The Bioguy compared it with Schrodingers' Cat. Yea...

So basically that means that IF Bioware wanted to completely ignore half of what DA2 was about for DA3... they could.... and still be lore-specific.

Even Hawke is... significant in that scene.

Just some thoughts about the maker's sigh a.k.a the respec potion from the black emporium.

I like being able to respec my character, I do, but I'm not sure giving players such easy access to this was the best idea. I known this is extra content / and there are probably mods to do this, but it really makes your character build seem very inconsequential.

I pretty much respec-ed my character probably 3-4 times, I’m at lvl 16 now. From dual wielder to archer and back again. I do this for the party NPCs as well. And while it is very fun and entertaining to be able to do this, it really makes me feel like my character build decisions don’t really matter. And they don’t cause if I screw up I pay a soverign and ? to respec.

IMO, this takes alot away from the replay value. You really only have to play each class once to find what it is capable of. In DA:O I had a great time replaying and polishing old build. Not that I've played a rouge, I have little reason to come back becausee I've experimented w/ multiple build with respec potion

I know they had a similar potion in DA:Awakenings, but it was for high lvl PCs, more expensive, exclusive to the DLC content, and made a bit more sense because they added new skills and specializations.

IMO, they should have restricted access to the makers sigh potion, Maybe something like:

1) Have to complete the game on normal or hard difficulty to be able to purchase
2) Only for characters lvl 16 and up
3) Maybe only let it work on the party NPC?
4) Just make it more expensive, like between 10-20 soverigns

Any thoughts on the maker's sigh potion?

My honest opinion? Don't like it, don't use it.

I can kind of see what you mean, but I don't really see a problem with it. I didn't use it in my game at all. And it would be frustrating if you're half way through the game and you realise that you've fudged up your characters.

Haha, I guess I have no self control. :

I guess it is a bit hard to gripe about something that is completely optional to use. I.E. fast travel, hardcoe modes, sprinkles on donuts.

I think my real gripe is just w/ the implementation, for example, they could have wrapped it up in a side quest or something. In the end I'm gald it is there, I just feel like I'm abusing it.

True enough I guess, there's some slightly disturbing mods for TES and Fallout too. It's not really surprising considering the mods that came out for Origins just after it's release.

I wouldn't say disturbing really, though that's mostly because I've been desensitized by the internet by now, there's not much that shocks me anymore, only the most extreme things. But you're right, there are some mods out there that take things too far. I don't take issue with nudity mods, I used one in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I'll probably use one in Skyrim as well. i don't even have a problem with the mods that are essentially hardcoe porm, I don't use them because I don't see the point, but I don't have a problem with the mods existing, there is stuff out there though that is just...wrong, but it's like that for every moddable game, so most games.

The reason, i think, is simple. Anonymity, it attracts a certain type of person. Luckily the Nexus does enforce what content ends up there to a certain degree and most modders don't cross the line, my line may differ from yours or anyone else's though.

Agreed. I used it once on my mage to get rid of telekinetic...whatever, the knockback thing, because I didn't need it. Enemies rarely get close to me and when they do they are either on fire or about to be frozen by a cone of cold. I removed it so i could fill the elemental tree earlier, then I dipped into arcane later and ended up re-taking it to get crushing prison. At that point I cherry-picked the powers I liked and ended up as an unstoppable and very versatile killing machine.

The mind blast thingy, the one that's symbol is a brain? Personally, once I unlocked the force mage specialization I threw out that spell in favor of the force mage's crowd control spells.

Shockwave is superpowered mind blast, though without the hostility reset function.

I just love the Force Mage skills, though Fist of the Maker seems pretty low powered to me. Especially considering it's name :P

It could certainly use a damage increase.

Random thought, but how many DLC do you guys think DA2 will get?

Ummm... a BAJILLION.

Haha. I kid, but I've totally lost track of the number of DLC the last two Biowear games have had.

I don't know I think they'll make the first year at Kirkwall DLC doing odd jobs for whoever you decided to help and fill in other year gaps with DLC. I'm personally hoping for an expansion that continues after the end of the game.

The only reason I put a point in it was to meet the requirements for crushing prison, mind blast itself is pretty much usless when cone of cold is just as effective in most situations and does excellent damage to boot. Or I can use any force mage spell...or just toss a fire ball and casually stroll away as my enemies burn to death.

On Nightmare, mind blast has saved my mages from getting knockback locked by mobs numerous times.

Well since I had a break in my uni assignments I decided to splurge and buy DA2. (Actually I got the Signature Edition, which was sitting in the shop for only $5 extra) So far I can't say I'm terribly impressed. The shortcuts Bioware made are obviously everywhere (models from 1998 for townspeople in the streets), inability to talk to companions everywhere, simply using half of the Origins soundtrack again, re-using the same locations again and again. I've also noticed that the Origins Save import system is stuffed. After importing my savegame, I've gotten dialogue saying that
Spoiler
My Grey Warden had died (he didnt) and that he'd burned Amaranthine (again, he didnt). I dont know if this is a case of actual glitch or Bioware telling me my Origins story is worthless, but it sure as hell sullies the experience somewhat

Also, a 5.5gig installation? Origins required something like 15gig, and this "new" game with "updated" graphics requires a third of that? Says a lot about the ammount of actual content in the game doesnt it?

From what the devs have said yet, the content they plan to do should be usable - and make sense - for any Hawke. Whatever they plan to do, it's probably mostly unrelated to the actual main story.

No, it doesn't. Using the old compression from Origins, DA2 would settle in at around ~13 gigs. That's not quite such a significant number, isn't it?

Also, what track from Origins do you think was re-used? I usually pay too much attention to music, people tell me, so it would be weird if I had not noticed. ^_^

There is a save import bug. I am currently waiting on the patch for 360 as I refuse to continue my story in a broken game.

All of them? Except the main theme and the good battle music :hehe: For example, the Wounded Coast background music is used on the docks where you get to the Circle Tower. Preparing for the final battle has the same background as before the fight in Ostagar. And plenty of other tracks too.

I'm sure it has, I don't play on nightmare though, doesn't interest me. I just wanted to get the story, I played through it on normal then again on casual just to speed up the second playthrough with an import save, it wasn't challenging at all but I still had a ton of fun.

He doesn't. If he's inducted into the grey wardens then, by order of the wardens in Weisshaupt, he was transferred to Montsimmard to serve with orlesian grey wardens. He tells you as much in Awakening.

Interesting. He hates Orlesians lol, he must think think serving Orlesian Grey Wardens is torture. Wish he could've appeared in DA2, I was interested to see how he would have turned out since all returning Origins characters save for Leliana looked ugly.

I agree with you Bioware took a lot of shortcuts with Dragon Age 2 and they should've waited another 6 months before Releasing the game. Not to mention all the bugs that are in the game and some of them are Gamebreaking like the Isabella/Sebastain Attack Speed Bug.

what happens in Dragon Age 2 if Anders dies in Awakening? I would do it myself but I have DA2 on PC and Origins/Awakening on PS3.
