Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening & DA2

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:42 pm

Me2 was the start. it made a few people leave BW (they only liked ME) others just ignored ME and went to DA, others kept playing. Now DA2 is falling apart nd people are leaving that too, all they have left is ME (which you may already hate) and To which will probablly go belly up soon becuase its competing with WoW.

ME2 did make a big jump from ME1 but DA 2 from Origins was worse. At least ME2 is still a TPS with partial RPG elements and is still similar to ME where as DA2 is completely alien from Origins.

Funny, I got the opposite impression...

Ok I think some of you guys/gals are overreacting a bit (read: "lot") about the state of BioWare's games.

If i got a cent everytime i thought that, i'd have atleast 5 euros :hehe: However i can understand that. It seems BioWare has gone mainstream, and as such the reaction from the "hardcoe" fanbase is quite violent. Same was propably seen here following the release of Oblivion, if the occasional debates that happen are anything to go by. And will propably happen again following the release of Skyrim

"...gone mainstream"? As in "hasn't been mainstream since BG and NWN"?

Now that's just sad for so many reasons. They put out products to compete with their own, and are now not doing quite so well with the other games. So they choose to piggy back on the more successful rpg franchise. Though from a marketing stunt from the mass effect team's view this is great. They can build up more hype for Mass Effect 3 and have more people need a reason to get it. Also hilarious to note is they chose Mass Effect 2 and not one, since it's closer in style to DA2. Some things just seemed to work for Mass Effect, I can't say the same for DA team trying to follow their big brother.

Assuming that's real.

Edit
They even used Mass Effect music. LOL.

I hope DA2 has good combat and the dialogue isn't cliche or plain cruddy. I do not care if it or isn't a duplication of DAO. I really do not even care about the plot as long as the dialogue is done well. I just wish there were still games that used mostly text dialogue so that writers would be able to fit in more content with greater depth, but that is not going to happen... stupid 'progress'!

EDIT: Mass Effect was a pretty good RPG even if it wasn't the 'character development' style that people are accustomed to. Although being limited to a specific person in a set series of events limits possibilities. I think Bioware substituted diversity in the main character for interaction with the supporting characters. I wish they would put both into ME3. ME3 may be epic if they do, or it will end up being another 'almost' great sequel.

Well, read the discussion above your post and you would have what you need.

I liked Dragon Age: Origins, but from what I've heard/seen/played of Dragon Age II, I think I'm a bit disappointed and so I will not be playing Dragon Age 2... unless someone here could truly recommend it to me as being worth its full $60 price. I feel it's wiser to wait for the price to drop, but what do some of you think? How long does the game last? Is the game as obviously cut-and-paste as people claim? Does it truly all take place within one city? Has BioWare heard enough complaints to hopefully avoid rushing a game as they have in the future? Where would you say BioWare's headed?

Playthrough last 15~150(not really sure how they reach that number) hours.

The cut-and-paste is so obviously you can't tell if someone is doing a Act1 fetching mission or a Act3 massive boss fight. What's worst is wild mountain range have the same cave as the one in undercity. Kirkwall (the city you stuck in) have a very strict building code that all residential build have the same interior layout.

Strictly speaking, DA2 ain't just took place in Kirkwall, as the prologue took place in Feraldan and you get to go to the Deep Roads, not to mention you do have to travel out of the city to a mountain range close by.

Since I don't really know about those who work in Bioware (unlike Josh and Chris in Obsidian), I wouldn't know where are they heading.

Yeah, i've heard that BioWare was just as doomed after NWN release. But if NWN is mainstream, then what is DA2?

NWN is "mainstream" as in "submit to the fact that it is a Diablo clone", while ME2 is "submit to the industry which is dominated by FPS" and DA2 is "submit to money".

Playing it on Nightmare difficulty will possibly get you near 100 hours. I didn't try it so I don't know I'm just going off what other people have said about Nightmare difficulty.

Well okay, if not since NWN then at least since SW:KOTOR. That was mainstream as [censored]. Before you start screaming, "mainstream" isn't an offence and doesn't mean something bad. "Mainstream" just means "mainstream", believe it or not.

Mainstream by itself means "decharacters oneself"....unless that character become mainstream.

No, "mainstream" means "main stream", i.e. "purchased, used or accepted broadly rather than by a tiny fraction of population or market". Which other meanings of the word you want to extrapolate from that is a different matter.

Its a good game with a interesting story, but it is not as good as Origins. I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it. I would wait until the price drops, but I enjoyed it a lot so I may end up buying it soon regardless of price. Wait for a ultimate edition or wait until its $29.99-$39.99.

No, mainstream is "what most people is comfortable with".

That could take a while.

No, that's one of the extrapolated meanings. And I don't see something bad even in that. Is something automatically bad because most people are comfortable with it? No, it's not. Therefore, even that meaning of the word "mainstream" doesn't imply something bad.
