Dragon Age: Origins & Awakening

I'll just have to try harder to get them to actually drink the potion.
You'd think on Easy or whatever, it would make it so the potion drinking couldn't be interrupted.

Seriously, did they knock it out of my character's hand? That's the only way they should be interrupted. :)

Yes, I know, video game logic.

Yes, I know, video game logic.

Also, while in your tactics menu, some of your characters - such as a mage, or an archer - should be set to "Ranged" rather than "default'. If they are set as ranged, they will not run into the fray, but deal damage from a distance. You can set one of your rogues or warriors to help them out, should they be attacked directly etc. Your main warrior (tank) should be set to automatically trigger "threaten" the minute an enemy appears - the idea is that he should wade into the fray and attract most if not all the attention, have your healer keep healing him, given him health potions and let the rest of your crew circle around and deal damage.

This game, more so than any other I have played, does reward smart party management. Once I understood that, I had a great time with the combat and tactics. You can switch character tactics as well, make one set of "ranged" tactics for a rogue, for example, to use a bow, and switch it to dual wielding and more of a "scrapper" status, depending on what and where you are fighting. (for example, if you all are in close quarters, an archer is going to get constantly interrupted - flip them to a dagger and a different set of tactics. )

I wish I had this for PC, I need the mod to skip places the fade bores me to tears, but its nothing compared to the orzammer questline I am left to do *sigh* the anvil of the void and the fade really make me hate the game, its fun then it just annoys me.

I really hate the Fade as well, it is by far my least favorite part of the game. I actually like the Orzammar quest though, you get tons of loot :)

Leydene, that works in theory, but the big problem is even at ranged attacks, the ninja (Mercenaries aren't this awesome! :) ) archers run towards them and chop them up in melee. :(

Literally, without fail, they go pretty much after them, while leaving a few to poke me while the mages turn me into a ice sculpture. :)
Or spam unblockable hexes at me.

And for some reason, I cannot get Threaten to do anything. I'm seriously, there's literally no difference between not using it and using it.
Maybe I'm blind. And I wish my tank could tank. :)
I may have gotten those two "Main character never falls during such and such." achievements, but they were easy.

Set them to "ranged" - it's part of the tactics drop down.

I would glady complete the fade twice to avoid orzamar, the gang quest takes to long, andd the deep roads takes far longer. Fabe is boring but atleast its short.

Okay, but how do I edit the enemy's tactics? :)
No, really, it's not my guys that are the ninja archers, it's the mercenary archers in that zone, or rather all archers. They split off, half of them try to poke my people full of arrows, and the others run up and try to stab me in the face.

Now, If I was an enemy archer, I would not run up to another archer or a mage and stab them in the face. :)

I mean, if I had ninja archers, the enemies would be dead before they even saw me. :)

It also has multiple introductions. When you start the game you can choose between 6 different origins to play through (you also choose between 3 races, and 3 classes).

The game also allows you to choose dialogue options that are a bit odd to have a woman say to another woman. :hubbahubba:
I don't know why I like playing as women, other than the fact I played men so much...I mean, my only male Character for Fallout 3 ended up looking like Revolver Ocelot. :)

Enemy archers will switch to melee weapons if you attack them in close. Most enemy archers will stay ranged - you need to figure out different things to deal with enemies, and be flexible even within one battle.

Leydeene, are you telling me the Archers will run up to my archer/mage who is behind me, literally, they completely ignore me, and go and stab them?

I don't know how that works, but that's what happens to me.
That seems weird. I mean they are no where close to my archer/mage. Nowhere close. And they come running past me to stab them?

I don't think that's normal at all.
And yes, I know how to adjust my tactics on the fly.
I'm getting better at it in most games.

Cooler heads will prevail.

I suspect, David, that you are not using your Tank to good effect. Tanks should draw most of the attention - he should be wearing the best armor, using Threaten, Taunt, etc. If your mage suddenly concentrates on one enemy, that enemy will decide the mage is the bigger threat and go after him. Your damage dealers should be moving around, supporting the tank.

How do I make the damage dealers move around?
I'm not switching to every party member every few seconds.

And my Tank is a female. The Main Character.
Also, Threaten doesn't work for some reason. There quite literally is no difference between using it and not using it.

And besides, with the exception of that one difficult quest, I haven't really have any problems.
I've always been bad at describing things to be honest.

And how does Taunt work.
Also, how can I get the best armor at the moment? Sadly, it's more than just a defense/armor thing.
Although, you'd think 15 armor would be useful.

And I'm sorry for being so annoying, I really am.

^^^
Use the tactics menu for your damage dealers to attack at the right moment but don't rely on it too much. The only way to play this game efficiiently sometimes is to pause and play.

Threaten works only every time you actually hit a certain enemy. The more you hit the higher the aggro.

Taunt works like any other talent. A cheesy but very effective way is to have your tank taunt the enemies and then a mage to cast force field on him.

You can buy Blood Dragon Armor from Bodan in your party camp early in the game. He sells it at a reasonable price but just make sure that you have enough strength to wear it.

Well, I reinstalled Dragon Age for the first time in six months or so and I'm having fun. I debated creating a human noble or continuing a past character, but ended up creating a human mage instead. I'm reminded of how powerful mages are -- my character Bram is only level 5 but already has the first explosion spell, a frost spell, and others, allowing him to take down the darkspawn in the Korcari Wilds with little trouble (though with the other Grey Wardens' help). I should try playing at higher levels of difficulty instead of "normal" difficulty. Man, I love this game. Currently on the ground floor of the Tower of Ishal.

Okay, thanks Miltos, but again, Threaten still doesn't seem to do anything for me. :( Whether I hit enemies or not. Nothing seems to change in the aggro.

And my mage doesn't have force field.
And that lovable Dwarf doesn't sell Blood Dragon armor at all. :(

I'm searching for the Urn that contains the ashes. That's how far into the game I am.

But yeah, I'm fine in the game, it was really only that mage area that I had problems at. :)
I'll take all the advice I'm given.

But yeah, Blood Dragon armor? The only thing he sells related to cool things, is a Amulet that's really expensive, and some other armor and weapons. Including one that's a bit over 100 gold.
The Amulet looks to be a game breaker too. :)

1. If you bought a new copy of Dragon Age you should have gotten a code for Blood Dragon armor, you need to activate that code. The armor isn't in the vanilla game.

2. The Urn of Sacred Ashes quest is one of the 4 main "treaty" quests. It's tough to say how far in the game you are because I don't know what quests you did before that, you can do them in any order.

Oh, that's odd, the card with the code has Expires April 30th, 2010.
Do you have a TARDIS I could borrow? :(

I am disappointed here.

And I did the boy possessed by a nearly naked demon lady first. :)
Okay...this game is weird. But at least now I know why it had the partial nudity flag. :)

The fight was somewhat easy.

Threaten isn't going to magically make enemies attack the warrior immediately. What it does is make it so that the warrior generates more hate than usual while it's active. Just so you know, hate is an invisible number that determines who the enemies will attack, and every action your characters take, from regular attacking to using spells/talents, will generate some. And some actions generate more hate than others.

Your tank should have Threaten active at all times, and at the beginning of every fight, he should be the first one in and attack the enemies a few times before the rest of your characters take any action. Always have him periodically switch targets, just so he can keep the enemies thwacking him, and if a sizable number go for the more vulnerable characters, have him use Taunt to generate some spike hate to an area of effect, which should hopefully turn attention back to him.

Okay, I'll remember that for my Tank, who is a woman. The main character even. :)
I shall keep that in mind. Trust me.

Thank you. Why is it though everyone thinks men are the only Tanks? :) I kid, I kid.
