Dragon Age: Origins & Awakening

Heh - I made several male Shepards for ME2... and when I looked back at them... I basically made the same dude, with different color eyes or facial hair. I don't mind DA's Character Creation - mostly I've been pretty pleased with the characters I've created. I wish they had better hairstyles. I did add a mod for that, but the added ones looked not so great, with the exception of using Morrigan's hair for your character, which I have done.

But you can get a nice premade character in Mass Effect 2 just by typing in the code (plus, I think the voices match the default best).

First of all, I like variety, and I like messing around with CCs, so I'm not going to stick with the pre-made. Second, I don't use pre-mades anyway. Ever. Third, if you're using a pre-made, then the quality of the CC is irrelevant. Fourth, I prefer the female Shepard, and her pre-made face svcks ass, so it doesn't even have that going for it.

Anyway, just to steer this back to Dragon Age (and, uh, its CC), I really wish the protagonist would emote more in cutscenes, would be a really good way to judge the quality of the face you made. And most annoyingly, the one expression I really want to see requires playing through the entire game (specifically, when he kills the Archdemon). Covered in blood, clenched teeth, grimacing furiously...sadly, not every face seems to succeed at it, but I'll never find out until it's way too late.

Take my http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1807/cyruscrazed.jpg...in my opinion, awesome, this was the expression he was made to make! At the end, my City Elf proved to be a bonified lean, mean, dragon-slaying machine.

My second character, a mage...I thought she was quite pretty, but BY ANDRASTE, http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7316/cynncrazed.jpg

And apparently, http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/5127/alistaircrazed.jpg

Note to self: Don't take screenshots at the archdemon slaying scene.

Ew.

That's when the archdemon puts on his groucho marx mask and flourishing his cigar looks into camera and says "I never forget a face but in your case I'll make an exception."

And for that remark, I would chase him down to darkest corners of the earth. Which is a pretty apt description for anything concerning Morrigan.. :P

I do this for pretty much every game, try to get the same facial structure, hairstyle, skin tone, then just change hair colour and eye colour, I think I base them all of my fist rpg avatar from fable, iirc his face looks like the ones I make.

I just couldn't stand to play a male Shepard in the Mass Effect games. The voice of this guy drives me mad. But Jennifer Hale sounds cool and hot at the same time.

To try and get back on topic, how does xp work? If a team mate get the kill do I get partial, full. or no xp? Also, where can I find pictures of shields, I want to see the crests for an RP.

No idea about shields, but you can leave people at camp they still get XP, so I assume its for everyone, shame I found out after hating lelina for killstealing.

This is a party based rpg so all members of the party receive equal amounts of xp. If you leave some companions in the camp for a long time when you pick them up again their xp is automatically readjusted so they are one level behind you.

The annoying thing with that is, for example, I left Morrigan and Sten in the camp for ages, so they had like four or five level ups. I decided to take them on a quest, but of course got an interrupt on the way, and it turned out to be a tough encounter, and I could not level them up because we were immediately in combat... So it was even tougher than it might have been with two weaker party members.

Maybe its just me, but I have never saw the appeal of taking Sten anywhere, he is pretty much like Alistair, ust replace the whining with him just being silent and trying to keep any sort of conversation to a minimum, he ust annoys me, atleast zevran talks, even if he annoys me its more entertaining than sten. So who is your guys least favorite party member ? For me its out of Shale, Sten and Oghren.

Really? I pretty much hate everyone but Sten. They talk to much and I don't give a [censored] about there problems. It's like "Hey guys, I'd love to chat but we have a [censored] world to save and filler combat to fight". Dog is okay, too. :)

I liked everyone but Liliana or whatever. That accent was.... bad. And I'm a fan of accents on women.

And she was annoying as hell.

I liked everyone else, Shale being my favorite, I'd wager.

I like all of the companions, and on some games I have swapped them in and out pretty regularly, except Barkspawn is not much use once you start to really gain levels, and although I like Shale, he's also too limited. I thought the dialog and characterizations were really quite well done. Leliana bugs me the most, because... she's dippy.

So ou like the guy who kills an entire family because he lost a freaking sword ? Not to mention he clearly has issues with the GW.

I think it was French, I liked it, but found her a bit to strange for my liking, also the "I saw a vision, from the maker" stuff annoyed me, it was a coincidence, but damn her singing makes her awesome, I may have a character romance her next time.

Zevran was pretty refreshing for a video-game characters after so much exposure to the usual cookie-cutter testosterone male characters, and Morrigan had some really good moments too, what with her darwinist upbringing.

It didn't take long to figure out Leliana and Alistair were designed with Joss Whedon in mind. The latter gets all the one-liners of an insecure Xander. :D

I don't like Sten or Morrigan, they complain way too much. Alistair and the dog are my favorites, I like cracking wise with Alistair and having my dog along is just great for my RPs (so far). I just barley recruited Zevran for the first time, I killed him the first two times, so we will se how that goes. I have yet to recruit Wynne, Ill get her this round, and I dont have Shale. Oghren is great for my dwarf but every other time I just leave him in camp.

Wynne and Zevran in your party generates some very amusing dialog. (heh. Magical bosoms.) Zevran has some of the more amusing lines, I ignored him my first few play throughs, but subsequently have re-spec'd him and use him frequently. One of my favorite parties is Alistair, Ohgren and Zevran.

I seem to have the default party of Morrigan, Alistair and Leliana. I just dont find some characters intersting and others are just annoying, what are the ones from awakening like ?

The awakening characters are kind of thin, character wise. It's not got the depth of dialog and interaction that the main game has. Some wasted potential there, especially for Anders and Nathaniel. Oh well.

You should make an effort to get all the party members and mix up your party a bit. It's fun, and if you are managing combat okay, then you can mix and match up different squads just for the fun of it.

My base groups so far :

Rogue: Alistair, My dog, and Morrigan
Warrior: Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan

Ill be doing a mage here soon. What are some of the better magics in the game? I like the look of the elementals but I think I am gonna limit myself to 1 (probably frost or lightning) I plan on doing a Spirit Healers/Arcane Warrior combo. Essentially making a Paladin. What else would go good with this potential combo?
