Don't really know who is the bigger idiot here...

The guy who wrote the original article for being a colossal idiot, or Bioware for once again trying way too hard to seem gay-friendly that they seem more homophobic than tolerant...

Sooo... BioWare includes some possibly-sorta-not-really gay characters in a game and straight guy complains. This is news how? :P

Wake me up when a game has a legitimate homosixual male character.

little bit confused. is the article saying that Bioware neglected to put homosixuality in, or they put too much in?

Probably a stupid question, but I am a little confuzzled.

Rings rather insincere, when their response to "why can't we change our companions' appearances?" was along the lines of, "because they're their own personalities, defined by us and not the player, and their outfits are one aspect of that." Choice of clothing is apparently more fundamental to an NPC's identity than sixuality... hmm.

Says nothing of BioWare's stance on homosixuality, to me; rather, it's indicative of a poor grasp of writing [complex, engaging, memorable] characters.

He was complaining that essentially every character in the game that you can romance is bisixual. If you turn down the advances of a same-six character you recieve negative friendship points with them.

For the record, I can actually understand the original poster's sentiments. Having played the game, I found it quite irritating that a male character hit on my male Hawke, but when I turned him down I was rewarded with negative friendship points. Encountering these situations in the game actually made me think that Bioware had just thought "what the hell, to keep everyone happy lets make them all Bisixual" with no consideration whatsoever. I think the poster's suggestion of a "No homosixuality" option might have been going a bit down homophobia lane, but I can understand and agree with him in some respects.

All that aside (and flame shields up) this was simply another case of Bioware telling the consumer they dont care about you and they'll ban you if you criticise the game.

There's too much gay in 'dat der game, Cletus. :P

Basically BioWare put "too much" homosixuality into a game. And by "too much" the author (in the article on the BioWare forums) means "passes" at your male character by other male characters.

So wait, a refusal only nets them DISLIKING you? Nothing of them panicking worrying that they may've alienated you or that you'd hate/despise them for what they did or something? I guess it *IS* a fantasy game, though... :P

"That's right Tom I'm told there's been a large backlash from the fans of Bioware's latest relationship simulator, Dragon Age 2. Upset fans say they were horrified to discover that upon finishing the game, they've had six with 9 men, 3 animals and a particularly attractive hole carved in a bathroom stall, but only 2 females. Many of these fans have taken up protesting outside of Bioware headquarters, chanting slogans like "Less quests more (straight) six!" and holding signs showing Bioware what a female looks like, worried they forgot. I interviewed one Thomas Ande-... wait, wait I've just received word that Bioware has announced their 15th new DLC pack! They say that this DLC pack will add 23 more men to have six with, along with 3, yes 3 females! Bioware is very confident this new content, at a low price of just $30, will will satisfy their irate fans."

... But in all seriousness I don't really care and I haven't played the game. I was just very bored. :P

Don't we have a long running DA2 thread? Isn't it on the front page of CD?

But yes it is a bit strange that everyone is bisixual. It would be better if you get negative friendship points when you make an advancement contrary to your companions orientation.

And yes, I believe the staff of EA/ Bio have lost their minds.

Oh. Huh. That's... stupid. I still think the author (of the "critique" on the BioWare forums) is going overboard, but refusal of advances shouldn't really have positive or negative consequences (depending upon how strong that "refusal" is).

The only non-bisixual character in the game is the one you get from the launch day DLC that you either pay an extra $7 for or get with the Signature Edition of the game.

Well.. technically Anders can be straight. Or at least he doesn't mention his "first time" with a man if you're a female. He will however, mention being with a man if you play a male Hawke.

And I don't know.. it's silly having everyone except Sebastian as bisixual, but does it really matter? And why is this person even complaining? It's a game. Who cares about the straight male demographic..

Wait wait, surely you mean every companion is bi-sixual? Or is every single character in the game bi-sixual?

No they're all Hawke-sixual :hehe:

In other words romanceable by Hawke of both genders. However, apart from Anders, they won't bring it up on their own.

Every romanceable companion, except for the prince from the Signature Edition/Exiled Prince DLC.
Isabela was bisixual in Origins, Anders was flirting with male Wardens and Nathaniel (if the earring and the kitten thing didn't tip you off), and we really don't know much about the Elvhen stace on sixuality. The first two are the only ones who make slight (well, in case of Anders...) advances on their own. I don't see why anyone should have a problem with that.
Then again, that dyke thing might make me a little biased.

SNIP

lol.

Of course the one character i actually like and decided to go for the romance option, guess what, has no romance option.

Maybe we should start a charity to get the bioware devs to go to a mental health clinic, things are getting pretty wacky over there. They need professional help.

I really don't care about them making every companion that can be romanced bisixual(*cough*fanservice*cough*), but what does bother me was that I was punished for telling Anders that my Hawke was not gay. Not cool BioWare, not cool.

Oh okay then. Out of curiosity, is there any sort of lore in the game regarding this? What I mean is, in the real world, our religions have specific stances on sixual preferences, and our societies have specific stances on excessive sleeping around. Was Bioware creative enough to address the fact that there seems to be an abundance of people willing to sleep with you regardless of your gender, utilizing the attitudes of the society you find yourself in and the dominant religion there, or is it truly nothing but fan-service?
