Dragon Aspect Word Wall Glitch

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 4:36 pm

Ok so I did the main quest first thing when I got Dragonborn. During the main quest when I got the 2nd word for the Dragon Aspect shout, it unlocked the achievement on the Xbox for having all 3 words (didn't notice at the time, was too busy having fun lol). Well later on I was doing side quests and other quest lines in Raven Rock, and I eventually got to the quest to go into the mine, well that led me to a dragon priest and the 3rd word to the Dragon Aspect shout. The problem I'm having is that I can't get this word. The wall has all the chanting, and the static like sound of me about to get the word, but no word lights up and nothing happens no matter how long i leave it there. I have already tried the following:

-Delete system cache
-Reload some previous saves (didn't have many because I run multiple characters on a small TV so i save over each characters specific hard save to avoid clutter)
-Saved by the wall and kept trying to reload
-Saved away from the wall and kept trying to reload
-Went into the Black Book nearby and then tried for the wall
-Left the dungeon and got another word and then tried again

Right now I have just went passed it and just playing the rest of the game. It would be nice to get that word since i use the Dragon Aspect shout a lot when I'm working skills not meant for my Khajiit assassin. If anyone else has been having this problem and knows a fix, it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me what to do. Thanks.

The Achievement itself would not cause this, but the conditions that awarded the Achievement would.

You will have to load a save from before you got the second word which triggered the Achievement. It may not glitch trigger again, but since you are on a console platform, there is no other way to fix this than to load an earlier save.

Just means you will have to do a clean save (without Dragonborn installed) and start the DLC all over again. It would probably be best to go to the one where the third word was before doing the one that glitched on your first attempt. And it would be better to keep more saves so you can go back if you need to. A save just before any DLC is is always a good idea, keep your clean save if you do it again, just in case you have to practice a bit to finish everything.

what do you mean a clean save?...and the reason i dont keep tons of saves is because i save a lot...and i have a small TV so it makes things hard to read and i dont want all the clutter in my save screen lol

What is more important, scrolling through a list of saves the same as most people have to do, or being able to play a glitchy game and actually finish it?

A clean save, is where you resign yourself to having to start again. Gather all your Vanilla Skyrim stuff and any followers and go home to Skyrim, save the game, uninstall the DLC, load up your Skyrim save (a warning message will come up about missing content), save the game again to get a save without the Dragonborn content. Download Dragonborn again, exit the game if it is running and then start again using your clean save file.

If you were having trouble with performance issues (freezing, lag, areas not loading properly, unending loading screens) you might as well clean the system cache, delete the game if it is installed, the patch and any other Skyrim DLC, then reinstall the game, patch and DLC to start with a fresh install, which will give you a better running game. And then load that clean save file you did after deleting Dragonborn and start Dragonborn again.

jesus bethesda just needs to learn to not put out something before its been tested -_-...kinda ridiculous...and right now im on save number 623...that would have been a TON of save files -_-...and honestly having to do all of this crap over again isnt worth it for 1 damn word...bethesda just needs to patch this soon and fix their crap...i still love this game tho...

No, they will not patch it, so it depends on how enthusiastic you are about replaying. You could always take a break and play something else, come back to Dragonborn when they announce the next DLC.

This was a problem before any of the DLCs came out. I had this happen with another Word Wall in Soltstheim and another in Skyrim. I try to save right before I fight at a Word Wall now. I reloaded the save and got the word. I think that before I tried to read the word and fought the dragon priest, I moved in the area near the wall. So if you hear chanting, don't go near the wall if you are going not going to be able to read the word right away. It may jinx you and lose the word. Just my theory.
