Dragon bones and scales - Keep or sell?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:52 am

As a low-level character, I've been selling the dragon bones and scales that I've been collecting, as I'm light-years away from the Dragon smithing perk. Is this a mistake?

Nah, but I would recommend stop selling them after you buy your first house. Then just keep storing them away

Sell. You can always find more later.

It's not like your going to run out of dragons to harvest in the game.

agree with everyone. Sell - they have too much weight.

Sell. You should have more than enough dragon bones. Also, if you're using heavy armor, you could just end up using daedric anyways. Dragon stuff is only really that good if you're using light armor IMO.

I have 41 bones and 40 scales in my breezehome..... The problem is, no one will buy them except for the general store guy (belathor or something), and they always run out of money after 3-4 bones/scales.

After the MQ is over, you might have another person to buy them. It all depends on how you handle something at the end.

No, I am not going to tell you in the General Section what or who.

Sell. You might want/need the cash in the early stages of the game. By the time you'll need them for smithing you'll be tough enough to want to go and fight dragons at will and beat them with relative ease to remove them for their skeletons.

Sell the bones, as dragon heavy armor is weaker and looks worse than daedric armor. If you use light armor and plan to use smithing, then keep the scales for the best light armor (dragonscale), although its barely better than glass armor.

LOL I've been hoarding every dragon bone and scale! I didn't know how many I would need for my dragon bone armor. I had plenty to make one heavy set and a light set though (all legendary). It's really not that hard to get Smithing to 100!

I think I still have around 50 of each in my chest. Hmm, I think I'll just hang on to them for now...

I'll give you a "it depends". If your plan is to play this character over time, develop slowly, do a bunch of quests/explorations, collect all the dragon words... etc., then selling them is fine. If your plan is to Bee-line through the game skipping as much content as possible, you should hold onto them. One question though... why sell items with potential value for coin which is essentially valueless? You can make coin so many different ways that selling stuff with potential for later use seems kind of silly.

I horde them since you don't get a good return on investment early in the game when your speech is low and later on you'll find better stuff to sell anyway.

Make a display in your house! :-)

I find myself keeping all of them. I am compulsive about collecting objects in the game. Just like these are the first dragons to appear in the land for a very long time, so I collect their body parts.
