Dragon Chants and Kinect/Microphones

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 4:10 am

So these dragon chants that were mentioned in the article, how cool would it be if you could activate them by using the microphone built into Kinect on the 360 it would be awesome if instead of using it like a spell, this could work on the PS if you use a mic and if you didn't want to you could just use them like a spell. Im not sure if this could be implemented into the PC version but it seems like it wouldn't be to difficult to add on to the consoles

No thank you. I prefer them spending the time it would take to implement that, to add a few dozen/hundreds??! npcs and/or locations, quests, etc.. in the game

Or a button on a controller/keyboard would be nice as well.

It could work, just look at End War, the entire game can be controlled by voice commands.

I don't think BGS would do this, nor would I particularly want this feature either. Hard as it is to imagine, I don't like yelling at my TV.

Haha, they could use the Dragon Naturally Speaking software brand.

Who says you have to yell? I'd whisper sweet nothings into its ear. :whisper:

...Ear?

I already yell enough at the TV, I don't want to accidentally shout off a Thu'um.

it wouldnt be cool at all kinect is to entertain families and kids not to play rpgs alone. do you see your self playing a game calmly and suddenly roaring stuff at your tv.... i hate this idea plain and simple with dont need this gimmick that is the kinect.

Seeing as the game is multiplatform and is not made in any way, shape, or form to work with the Kinect...

It would be cool to see a Kinect control option for it, considering combat, voice commands, but looking at the game as a whole, I don't think it would fit very well. Maybe for the next game if Kinect catches on and is used well.

I heard they were planning to make a Kinect for the Windows PC.

Ha this would be funny and weird. Imagine yelling at your TV in another language. I'm assuming you don't live with anyone because if you did they would probably consider this slightly odd.

You two don't really get how game development works. A guy whose job it is to add things to the world wouldn't have anything to do with adding in something to do with the UI like this.

Seeing as the game is multiplatform and is not made in any way, shape, or form to work with the Kinect...

Kinect just uses a regular microphone, so it wouldn't be hard to implement.

I wouldn't use it, but it couldn't hurt to add it in

If we are able to get a script extender, this is might be a possibility for the mod community. Someone would just have to write a plugin. Has anyone shown a hack with the mic yet though? I've only seen video and motion control hacks so far.

This ^. The idea is kind of cool, but any microphone could work and I would rather them not waste such resources on it.

You fail to realize not one person develops the whole game.

The people who add stuff like npc's, locations, quests are not the same people who program the engine and allow stuff like Kinect support to happen.

Why encourage it?

I don't know, I'm not too familiar with the PS3, but wouldn't the PS3 Eye and Move work just as well?

Bethesda is not going to do anything like this. Why? Because they are not going to waste a whole lot of time developing a feature that:

1. Is intended for one of the three systems the game is made for
2. Is targeted at an even smaller portion of those players
3. Does not entice people with a Kinect who otherwise don't care about Skyrim to rush out and buy a copy
4. Would horribly manage development time, and waste resources on something that can be accomplished with a simple button/key mapping

Its funny, ever since the Kinect came out people who wasted money on it are finding out its use is limited to a handful of crappy games that are all very similar in the end. So now all you see are lots of really terrible suggestions of how the Kinect could be implemented into every game out there. Free tip: Just because you wasted money on something MS told you was going to blow your mind, does not mean every developer in the world is going to jump through hoops and tack on pointless features to make your purchase justified.
