Dragon Factions

Post » Thu Jul 01, 2010 9:18 pm

I'm under the impression that Dragons aren't going to be just creatures to kill. I'm thinking that they're going to be smart since they can read, write, talk and do magic. Some questions I never got to ask were:
1. Are dragons going to be able to cast spells like a magic user as well as do shouts?
2. Are there going to be good dragons and bad dragons or Dragon factions that you can side with? If so, how will you be able to tell the dragons apart? Not to sound racist, but all dragons kinda look the same to me. Will they be distinguishable by color or something else?

If anyone has any inside info on this that they can share (or update me with because I missed it), that would be cool. Thanks.

Todd Howard has confirmed that there are some friendly dragons that we can have conversations with (in either draconic or common speech, i forget which). We can also call a dragon into battle.

I don't think they want to reveal everything about dragons just yet, so don't worry. Todd has confirmed that there are different kinds of dragons.

Well shouts enable them to cast magiclike spells like firebreath and others. As for the 2. nothing much was told about that yet, apart from there being SOME dragons which would speak in english. So on the 2. there can only be speculations.

While friendly (or at least temporarily non-hostile) dragons are pretty much confirmed, I doubt there will be entire factions of dragons for you to side with. I'm having trouble seeing how it could work.

Do you mind if i ask how old you are and what country you are from?

I've noticed a lot of people around here are constantly apologizing for even remotely being "racist" against made up things such as argonians, and now in your instance dragons.

Anyone else that would ever type something similiar feel free to asnwer as well, or send me a PM

I look forward to seeing how they implement this. My biggest worry was one dimensional bad guy dragons and unless it was translated incorrectly that's been confirmed out. Even if it's just one or two neutral/good dragons that makes me happy.

That link doesn't have fully accurate info on the Dragons of Skyrim. Todd has confirmed that the dragons that have come with Alduin are not related at all with the Akaviran dragon's, and may even be a separate race (similar to each other, but different. Like the way an Imperial is different from a Redgaurd. Both are men, but still separate 'Races')

I would, but I think that using the personal message system might be a little bit racist towards the general discussion board.

I used the personal message system because my post would have been highly inappropriate for the general message board. Too much real life stuff. The in game reason is that I adore being a goodie two-shoes. My PM surprisingly took me like twenty minutes or more to write. It felt good to get that out of my system. :celebration:

Friendly dragons haven't even been confirmed. All that's been said is that some will speak Tamrielic (read: whatever language is used in your localization). It's also been confirmed that you can actually talk to hostile characters. You wouldn't be wise to do so while they're busy murdering you but it's possible. Hell, they've said giants will speak to you, too.

In the Elderscrolls dragons are sentient creatures like humans, elves, argonians etc. There just like humans except bigger, can fly, smarter, stronger, scalie, and can destroy a city just by talking. Why shouldnt there be some dragons that deviate from the norm, and ya know.. Not wanna destroy everything?
Read this http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragons.

I think the problem is that people keep viewing them as "just animals" or something. Asking why a dragon in Elderscrolls would fight against his/her kind is sort of like asking why a human might rebel against his country/family/race or whatever.

From what information we have heard from Todd Howard and the GI article about the dragons that will appear in Skyrim (the UESP article can't be entirely trusted), I have learned the following.

Dragons once terrorised Tamriel a long time ago in the early days of Tamriel, but have not been seen since then, but now they're back. It has been suggested (but not confirmed) that these dragons are servants of Alduin, the God of Time who is awakening and planning to "eat the world" (dunno what this will involve but basically he wants to end it and make a new one). There has been said to be different types of dragons, but they have been said to all be black dragons, and called "Jills". The dragons are mostly hostile but Todd said you will be able to talk to some (presumably main quest specific), and will often attack towns. You probably know that as a "dragonborn", your main character will be able to learn a type of ancient magic called "dragon shouts" which you do by shouting draconic words. Oh yes, the dragons have a language and are supposedly intelligent. Anyway, dragons can use these words too. They can perform dragon shouts, and that is their form of magic. I think it's quite unlikely they will use other magic.

Since they're (probably) under Alduins control to some degree, I don't think we'll see any dragon factions.

I'd lmfao if Tracy Morgan got to be the voice of a Dragon.

Shortly after I stopped laughing I'd kill it out of sheer annoyance.

You recognize the friendly dragons by them not trying to kill you. :teehee:
