Dragon Fight Strategy

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 8:23 pm

Hey guys I was just wondering, what do you think about special strategies against dragons. For instance I wonder if you fire an arrow down the throat of one while it was breathing fire will this kill it/ do extra damage/ choke it? Please give me your thoughts and strategies.

I will use my fists. Beyond that, I'll just have to think on my feet.

The main thing I wonder is wether or not they have noticable magick resistances. This may force my mage to use weakness to magick spells in conjunction to my offensive magick. Then again, dragon shouts will help even the playing field a bit as well.

Well, if you try to shoot an arrow through a magical flame....yeah, I'm not sure it would do much good.

However, it would be cool for the dragons to have certain weak spots, like the eyes and neck. They would be pretty hard to get to, but it would be pretty rewarding once you did. For instance, maybe an arrow through the eye could be a OHK, and then a slash to the neck would do a lot of damage.

Pretty cool idea.

I was thinking along the lines of what terrain you might use to evad and out outflank it. Try jumping from a cliff to land on its back?

With my first character (A nord all-offense armorless barbarian with a two-handed weapon), im going to at least try to dodge any predictable attacks, like the flame breath. I'm hoping I'll be able to sprint to the side, and then land a blow to it's neck/face whenever it tries to melt me.

Dragons don′t breathe fire, they shout it. So no, the dragon would not choke, it would maybe choke cos of the arrow but not because of the breathing mechanism for fire getting stuck.

shoot an arrow into his belly wheres he is missing a scale hobbit style and dive behind a large boulder for cover as he comes crashing down in a big flaming dying inferno

or option 2 use shield to protect from flames while getting in random slashes until he completely burns the shield up then make some suicidal leaps going for a kill before you die first

I wonder how many people will die in their first dragon-fight?

Let me clarify. Would the arrow kill it istantaniously by exploiting its momentary weakness, just do more damage than an arrow on its side would, cause the dragon to reel in pain and maybe convulse trying to dislodge the arrow in its throat, or would it do nothing?

1. Paralyze spell
2. As it crashes into the earth jump on its back (can you jump on its back? )
3. Pray to the gods that you don't fall off if it starts flying again
4. Stab it.

How do I plan to defeat a dragon? Three words: Deus Ex Machina. I come across one of the wyrms, get beaten around a bit, knock a stone loose, grab the sword underneath the stone with the dragon's name on it, stab the dragon with the sword, the dragon dies.

No seriously though, I have no idea what kind of strategy I'll end up formulating the first time I fight a dragon. As of right now, I look at each and every one of the dragons as being flying Umbras on steroids. And I'm going to be most ill-equipped to deal with the first one I encounter, I can guarantee you that.

I would charge up the mountainside with the sun beaming off of my sword and my armor until I reach the beast, at which point we are both but specks at the mountain's peak. With bold and direct physical blows and menacing shouts, I would battle my opponent until it is defeated and its body is but a ruin on the face of the mountain. With the defeat of my enemy and the absorption of its soul, the chanting of the name Dovakhiin will triumph over all other sounds across the whole of Skyrim and as I look downward upon Skyrim, I shall know the chanting is for my accomplishment. It shall be my title that they shout and all dragons will know to fear me. No, I will not need any special strategy, the dragons will. I shall tear through their lines without fear or hesitation until the land of Skyrim is painted red by their blood and until they shall all fear the sound of my name and the clang of my sword. :flamethrower:

Jumping up on it's back is a win, think Avatar, only problem is getting over it without riding another dragon. Also do not kill it high up in the air,
I wonder how the game will react then somebody do it? An obvious mod idea.

Arrows and a rugged terrain sounds more practical, the dragon should have problem moving in tight areas. However I guess it will use ranged area effect spells if you shoot it from an inaccessible place.

Without knowing more about how the dragon will fight (go in with the claws, shoot fire from above, etc.) I can't really answer.

I can say it will morph for different situations though.

Use a spell to lower Magicka Resistance and a spell to slow it down or reduce its damage casting them together then quick swap out those two spells for Fire and Cold and cast those while trying to stay to its back side or its side if possible to avoid the Dragons attacks rinse repeat.
