Dragon's Hoard?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:31 am

Dragons are supposed to collect shiny things right? like smaug from the hobbit and other dragon stories of dragons gaining vast amounts of jewels
Do you guys think we could find like dragon caves and find their stash of gilded objects?
would you like to if we could?

These dragons are out to end the world. I don't think they care about shiny trinkets.

Twould be cool. And I think that special armor, amulets, and some gold would be good loot for a dragon's lair.

ES dragons != normal dragons
ES dragons shout fire, normal ones breathe it
normal dragons only hoard treasure, ES dragons are trying to kill all humans
but if you do kill a dragon in a dungeon I expect some sort of reward, other than their soul

The dragons are here to destroy the world, I daupt at least the ones that are actually busy destroying the world actually care about gold. maybe some of the non-quest related dragons will be. but I wouldn't count on it, they only returned just, they haven't layed waste to the region for decades collecting shiny stuff. I doupt it...

Well, imagine all the loot that would normally be inside a high-end dungeon. Then imagine it being distributed so that most of it is located at the very bottom, near that "Dragon Hoard" as you want it to be. I don't really see why it can't exist. Either fully realized or partially in the sense that it's just another high-loot area of several other types. Like the center of a tomb that contains the treasure of a long-dead king.

I actually think the game would benefit from the existence of 3-5 unique dragon caves, especially considering the somewhat bad experience with boring dungeon designs in the game's predecessor, Oblivion.

There hasn't been enough time for these dragons to settle down or collect a horde

Man I hope so. It would be a great nod to classical fantasy.

Actually, these dragons have been around for ages, it's just that they've awakened now.

Well, where else would we get loot from?
It would simply be a pain if you killed a dragon and you didn't find any loot nearby (Besides the dragon shout)

Besides, it would be fun if there was a rare item up in a dragon's territory in the mounton, because it would be suspensefull to try to get the loot as there is a dragon guarding it.

Now, i'm not talking about fancy loot or anything, I mean, i'd even be fine if I found a dead warrior near the dragon's territory, because atleast I would get some loot anyways.

These dragons strike me as being the creations of the World-Eater. As such the gathering/collecting/hoarding of material items by creatures sent out to destroy the material world seems a little odd.

So personally I don't believe that the Dragons you face in Skyrim will be like your typical average fantasy Dragon that sleeps in caves on mounds of treasure. ;)

well a dragon in an area that it can guard something if its in the sky its not really guarding anything, if it is in a dungeon then it would guard a weapon/armor

So, in conclusion...

I would guess that if you find a dragon's lair there would probably be a good deal of treasure to collect.

This. TES elves aren't Tolkien elves, and hopefully TES dragons aren't Tolkien dragons as well.

Fitting rewards aside from the soul that you harvest in the form of occasional loots from dead bodies and such within the vicinity is a OK in my book, but hoards? No way jose.

Dragons are an intelligent race. Wether they have been awakened to destroy this world or not does not changed their intelligence. Intelligent creatures will have varying personalities. So, some will want to destroy everything, not caring for anything within the world, while others could well want things within the world.

Could they not just be here to destroy the world of man? There are more possibilites than out right destruction of the whole planet.

So, basically, I'm saying it's completely possible some dragons (if not all) will hoard treasure (treasure being relative to the creature and it's personal tastes).

Personally, I hope they do!

More likely the subservient underlings of the God of Time, if we're talking within the context of the Elder Scrolls' lore. I'm not ruling out the possibility completely but the chances are rather slim, if you ask me. But then again, the lair where we fought the red dragon on Redguard seemed to be containing a hefty stash of treasure inside. Yet this is no time for the dragon to mucking around with their shinies, I don't think.
