DRAGON HUNTERS

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 11:47 pm

I couldn't find this anywhere so I'll ask here: Is there a finite number of dragons? I know some are parts of random encounters, and others (correct me if I'm wrong) are parts of set quests/plot lines. But, assuming a shout is learned/strengthened from each soul we capture, once we've learned all the shouts will there still be more dragons? I hope there will. I would hate knowing that I've beat the game and there are no dragons left to hunt!

It doesn't have to be a group of surly british gents, but there should be at least one magnificent bastard who challenges dragons to bare knuckle brawls.

Agreed -- He's only answers to the name "The Bait"...

That would be an awesome scenario. Popping up here and there throughout the countryside.

how can we have dragon hunting when dragon hunting weapons are non existent (spears, halberds, giant crossbows with chains attached, ball and chain) i mean in 200 years they must of had advancements in technology but instead it's going backwards

No... dragon hunting weapons are Bows and Heroic Swords... Spears and Halberds are used for Boar, not Dragon, hunting, and I have no idea what you're going with on the chain weapons.

Personally -- The feature I'm most stoked about in Skyrim is DRAGONS... Dragons are the quintessential fantasy creature and I think the idea of dragon shouts is probably the coolest interpretation of arcane style magic this side of the Mississippi...

Do you think since they are pushing the Dragon angle so heavily -- they will have a specific quest-line (beyond main quest) -- as in a group of dragon hunters that try to take down dragons for fame and glory... Hell, the whole mechanic of gaining shouts revolves around killing dragons... Seems like an easy and plausible addition.

I think it's extremely logical to assume that some kind of joinable dragon hunter squad could be in there... One -- it would make killing dragons even more fun -- like having to kill every species of dragon -- kill an especially troublesome dragon that is terrorizing a specific town, collect 30 dragon teeth to craft an enchanted dragon necklace, etc...

They did similar for Vampires in Oblivion -- that crew of Vampire Hunters... Why not up the ante?

I think it would be a missed opportunity to not include a quest line like this (beyond the nuts and bolts main quest line). Dragon hunting for sport, Skyrim's most deadly game...

What say you?

hell yeah dude! I love the idea. It sounds like something they would put in the game you know? lets hope... I seriously cant wait anymore!

i think a hunters guild in general would be cool, they make you start out hunting herbivores and as you kill X amount they let you hunt bigger game then eventually take you out in a dragon hunting party and you can lay waste to a dragon once every week or few days (like grand champion matches) and you get hide or teeth to sell and be a rich playboy with a flat

Concerning dragon hunting --

What will be your preferred way to take these flying tanks down? Pepper them with arrows? Shouts? Destruction magic? Two-handed battle axe?

Question - if other NPC kill a dragon and you're around at the time (maybe fire a single spell at it or the like) do you absorb the soul?

Actually, what I would like to see is this :

An arena where a dragon is chained (partly restricted in it's movement therefore it can't just fly away) and gladiators try to fight it. Would be awesome.

Well in general hunting lodges seem to fit into Skyrim.

So it would make sense for them to defend themself/go for an adrenaline rush when the Dragons got there. So hunting parties of ~5-8 NPCs would be fun to meet, especially with the AI Skyrim has now.
They could flee in terror when one of their comrades is slain for instance.

I will find a friendly dragon and make a deal with him. We will go town to town and pretend to kill him and take all the coins the primitive Nords give me for saving there pathetic lives. In return the dragon will get any interesting loot I find since we all know dragons love to horde treasure. I know im not Dennis Quaid and the idea is not original but it could be fun. Oh and something that came to mind in alot of books and lore about dragons is they horde treasure you think that we will see this in Skyrim?

Someone's going to make a pro dragons faction, and someone else a dragon hunting faction. It's bound to happen.

I love the idea personally, and I will probably create a character dedicated to only dragon hunting, but after my main character, I'm rolling a witchhunter character, as is tradition. If there are also were-beasts this time around, I'll have to worry about them, vampires and necromancers. I might be too busy for dragons. :gun:
