DRAGON HUNTERS

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 1:05 pm

Personally -- The feature I'm most stoked about in Skyrim is DRAGONS... Dragons are the quintessential fantasy creature and I think the idea of dragon shouts is probably the coolest interpretation of arcane style magic this side of the Mississippi...

Do you think since they are pushing the Dragon angle so heavily -- they will have a specific quest-line (beyond main quest) -- as in a group of dragon hunters that try to take down dragons for fame and glory... Hell, the whole mechanic of gaining shouts revolves around killing dragons... Seems like an easy and plausible addition.

I think it's extremely logical to assume that some kind of joinable dragon hunter squad could be in there... One -- it would make killing dragons even more fun -- like having to kill every species of dragon -- kill an especially troublesome dragon that is terrorizing a specific town, collect 30 dragon teeth to craft an enchanted dragon necklace, etc...

They did similar for Vampires in Oblivion -- that crew of Vampire Hunters... Why not up the ante?

I think it would be a missed opportunity to not include a quest line like this (beyond the nuts and bolts main quest line). Dragon hunting for sport, Skyrim's most deadly game...

What say you?

its a good idea. create some kind of rivalry. one group could be a bunch of noobs and get toasted moments into a fight. but yeah, they could also be kind of more dirty, willing to use villagers as bait etc etc.

I'd like to see a team of guards or mercenaries try to kill a dragon. It would be fun to participate.

I'm hoping there is at least one dragon hunting guild, that is populated entirely of dragons in humanoid form, luring people interesting in the idea into killing the anti-Alduin dragons that could have been our allies.

Haha...

"Change for a beggar, sir?"
"Oh -- foolish me -- I left my bag of gold in a cave with just outside of town. Do you have any friends? I'm feeling especially generous."
"Oh - yes sir, thank you very much! How do I find the cave."
"Well... the entrance is the shape of a dragon skull and there are all manner of bones just outside. Can't miss it!"
"Woohoo!"

I'm an advocate for a hunting group questline, but have it taken beyond dragons. I'm talking magnificent boisterous British hunting types with fantastic mustaches who you embark on hunting journeys with, chasing foxes, bears, trolls, and finally dragons. For glory, of course.

I could cope with that as long as you build up to dragons... Huntings fun... It be cool if quest rewards netted you unique perks for hunting like -- "Arrows do X% more damage on beasts"

It would be awesome if there are friendly dragons -- but we'll never know -- They seem to kinda push that one right away as it has to do with main quest? A chill Sean Connery dragon that is so fat that he can't fly anymore -- or lost his wings from a run in with the --- DRAGON HUNTERS!

So....

One group is a close-knit guild that's run the content before, and the other is a random PUG thrown together by a paladin in greens using a Ret spec with no idea what the hell he's doing?

One of the few enjoyable parts of WoW. I love it.

Sounds more like something I'd expect from Fable 4 (Not the Kinect spinoff game) than the Elder Scrolls series... since I believe that competing RPG series is heading toward the Pulp/Adventure-era next. Seems too silly to be in Skyrim.

The idea of a Dragon Hunting guild seems like it fits right into Skyrim to me -- it's the first game with Dragons. Dragonborn kills dragons. It's a no-brainer. If you mean the English country-side type hunt with mustaches and foxes -- I agree -- that would be more Fable style...

But DRAGON HUNTERS! C'mon.

Well think about it, we already know there are some dragons that won't want to kill us. What better way is there for dragons to get rid of a dangerous enemy (other dragons) than by fooling people into hunting the wrong ones since they all look alike? Remember, dragons are not animals, they are a race...that are as smart as us.

Yeah -- that would be epic... but if they are tricking us -- the DRAGON HUNTERS will find out -- and then they're just another tooth on the ceremonial necklace...yadda yadda

Right... but these Dragon hunter would be badass, gritty archer and trapper types, not poncy british gentlemen.

Of course, though my main point is it would be an interesting twist since even when we do kill the deceptive dragons, it might not be until we already did their dirty work for them, killing what could have helped even our odds.

It would be nice if there was some sort of hunting lodge who had some quests that culminated in the slaying of a dragon or something.

Maybe they just buy certain pelts for a little bit more or something and you can follow them while they go out an hunt (which will certainly lead to imperial hunter type scenarios...)

Can't imagine it would be anything more than that in vanilla anyway, if we were lucky there could be a taxidermist.

Or they could add something like this in via DLC if it's not in vanilla, least then it could be a more involved quest line that maybe has you tracking and hunting some old elusive dragon etc

Either way I'm sure a few modders will wanna do something with dragon hunting.

Are dragons as dangerous as the Magmarian fustian water bison?
on topic though, it would be pretty cool to see a dragon hunters guild.

I love the idea personally, and I will probably create a character dedicated to only dragon hunting, but after my main character, I'm rolling a witchhunter character, as is tradition. If there are also were-beasts this time around, I'll have to worry about them, vampires and necromancers. I might be too busy for dragons. :gun:

I'd love if there was a guild, but since it's unlikely I'll be getting my companions together and showin high strung dragons how to be down to earth.

Pardon my ignorance - BUT - what's a witch hunter besides the obvious (hunting witches)... What skills and weapons and stuff?

Hunting some old elusive dragon in a quest-line/ guild is awesome.

It doesn't have to be a group of surly british gents, but there should be at least one magnificent bastard who challenges dragons to bare knuckle brawls.
