Dragon Mounts?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:08 pm

Has there been any confirmation on mounts in the game? I assumed we'd be able to ride a dragon similar to the mods from Oblivion but as far as I know there hasn't been any mention of even horses returning to the game? I read about the twenty dragon shouts that unlock new abilities related to dragons so I'm hoping one of those lets you take control of a dragon at some point in the game.

If there aren't any in the vanilla game you can be dame sure there will be a mod out with the feature within, say a few days of release.

From the info in GI, I think it's unlikely that there will be dragon mounts. Unlikely, but not completely out of the question...

It sounds like there will be some small dragons throughout the game, as well as bigger dragons that can be defeated to earn shouts, and ultimately,
Spoiler
Alduin will manifest himself in the form of a massive dragon that must be defeated before he eats the world.

If I remember correctly, we'll only be able to summon a dragon to fight for us. (One of those shout abilities).
As for mounting them, I hope they leave that feature out.

I searched so I don't duplicate a topic with my own. This one isn't terribly old so hopefully it's okay!

I was thinking about the ability to summon a dragon and I hope there is more to it than what was already said! It was said you can "force" a dragon to your side to fight with/for you. I think it would be neat if this dragon was actually a character in the game. Perhaps if you play a more goodly person you can actually befriend this dragon and willingly summon it to your aid, or even ride him/her as a means of fast travel! Perhaps if you are a darker or more evil character you would be bending the dragon to your will and forcing cooperation.

I think it would be very interesting if the dragon you can summon is actually a character that over the course of the game you develop a more complex relationship with, be it friend or subdued servant.

I'm really hoping the dragons are not one dimensional villains. I want to see some dragon politics with more goodly dragons or even better more complex political motivations going beyond "Alduin is evil and wants to destroy the world rawwr."

What if your tongue were to be cut off? Would that render you unable to shout the dragon shouts?

When all is said and done I would be shocked if there isn't a single dragon mount.

I wouldn't label it a certainty, or anything, but the ability to call a dragon mount certainly seems like it could happen, which I wouldn't have said before all the Game Informer news. It's not a huge leap to go from "call a dragon to fight for you" to "call a dragon to serve as your mount".

If it does appear, I hope it shows up as one of the last Thu'um shouts you obtain. You ought to feel like you've earned something like that.

I'm a lil worried about the idea of summoning a dragon, dragon mounts would sorta ruin it for me. I don't think anything as epic and big should ever be under your command.

In some cases, this argument doesn't work. In this case, it does. If you don't like it, don't use it, and that is the first time I've ever said that on these forums, but in the case of dragon mounts, I don't see how such an optional thing could ruin anything for you.

Because it implies my character has the power the ride a freakin dragon. Honestly what fun is to level up your character and finding artifacts if you have access to a fire breathing wise monster of death?

What fun is running around in Morrowind or Oblivion with end-game gear? Have a ridable dragon require quite a bit of devotion to the game. Think of it as a rare, end-game artifact. It doesn't even have to be a large and/or powerful dragon. It could be small and relatively weak. If you can kill dragons in the game, I don't see how riding one would be unbalanced. Perhaps they could even have a leveling system for your dragon. Your dragon can't enter dungeons or be of much use on ground combat, either.

I found it quite fun to run around in end game gear, thank you. And just because you can kill something, doesn't mean you have the power to subdue it. Dragons are not horses, dragons are more majestic beings than yourself, riding one would just feel plain wrong.

We know very little about Elder Scrolls dragons and they sure weren't all that majestic in their relatively stupid and innocent form in Daggerfall. Evidence would point to only the older dragons as being wise and powerful, and since we already have the ability to force a dragon to fight for us, I think we could manage to get one as a mount. I doubt they are more majestic beings than the mortal who can wield their power and take down Alduin himself, though. I very highly doubt it, especially if this is a young dragon we are referring to.

As for the end-game equipment comment, then my point is merely "How is a relatively weak dragon different?"

Seeing as their very langauge can destroy cities, I tihnk they're pretty darn majestic. And I already said I don't like the idea of summoning a dragon either.

Because a dragon is not part of you, gear merely allows you to channel your skill better, a dragon is a completely seperate entity

Seeing as you, the player, can learn their language and take them down, I'd say the player character is going to be pretty darn majestic, too. However, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Starlover%27s_Log I did mention the dragonlings from Daggerfall, as well, right? They're far from majestic.

Yea we are, but we're still merely a mortal, imitating their language. And I doubt these will be dragonlings. I prefer my power to be my characters power, to be his and his alone.

Then don't use the dragon mount. Don't even attempt to get it. It can be made to be a reward that only a powerful character can obtain after going through an abnormally long, and optional, quest... and there is proof of dragon riding in the series. There is no lore-related confllict with dragon riding.

I agree Dragon riding would be a cool feature as an endgame quest or something. People shouldn't have a problem with since its optional. The characters player i think would be able to handle a dragon since at endgame your character is pretty badass.

Actually the character isn't just a mere mortal imitating their language. They revealed that in the introduction to the game (or before) your character finds that he/she can understand the dragon language. I don't remember all the lore around the dragonborn or if it's all even known but there is either dragon heritage in your character or heritage of something equaling the power of the dragons.

I was under the impression that dragons in the ES universe are extremely powerful, almost god like. So no, I don't want a dragon mount and I hope they are not in the game. I said this in another topic... I do not get the crazy fascination people have with dragons IE: Dragon mounts, dragon lore, being able to turn into a dragon, dragon companions, any of this stuff. However, if any of that is in the game then fine, Alot of people seem to like it. I probably won't use any of it, but W/E more content is good.

I think you should definitely be able to ride a dragon or/and become a dragon yourself to fly around the world. Flying around the world would be wondrous, I think. Imagine flying above the mountains - it'd be so majestic.

I would love to mount a dragon, there is nothing wrong with it in my book.....yes has some have said maybe later in the game.
If we cant mount dragons fair enough,it wont ruin the game in any way for me....but i'd still like to do it.
Are you telling me you wouldn't like to see the world of skyrim, from the view of a dragon?....i think that would be a great experience, especially has the game is much better graphically.
Also, out of interest,do you want levitation back?
Because to me using that is similar to a fying mount....it has the same purpose ( more or less ).
Dragon mounts were a popular mod, showing people would like it.
I mean the scenery is meant to be alot better, more realistic mountains with waterfalls etc.I would love to see all that from the view of a dragon...it could be breath taking....but that my opinion.

Majestic creatures would not let anyone to ride them? This exact thought explains why there have only been 6 Toruk Maktos in Avatar verse.

We can't know before we try.
