I couldn't care less about mounts.
I always just walk to where I'm going, within reason, otherwise I just fast travel or use transportation.

Forum opinions are in no way representative of the whole and represent a minority of the actual playerbase. That aside, I trust that the developers will do as they wish to make the game great. At this point in time they have said no, but should they change their mind somewhere down the line...for whatever reason, they would still be right to do so as it is obviously their game, and I trust that if dragon riding were in fact added to the game by the devs, it would be done right...like the dragons themselves.

I suggest you look at my posting history as well as other devs if you think we are indiferent to the things suggested on this forum. Fact of the matter is that giving all these options and extra thing in the game takes tons of time. We strive to give you guys a deep experience and add as much content as possible but we only have but so much time and most of the time we put into adding these things is our own personal time to make the fans happy. We do read the forums and we do try to give the fans what they want but there are certainly differing opinions on this very forum on every single thing. So to please one you upset the other. If opinions differ that much on a small forum then imagine when 5 million people get the game. Me saying that the forum is not the majority is not because Im trying to dismiss any of the fans and Ive said that before, but it is the way it is. But Imagine if we listened to all the ideas people swear are great for the game, and the truth is there are some very good ideas and there are also alot of not so good ideas. The biggest factor you guys have to keep in mind is that we do have limited time. There is only so much we can add, and unfortunately we will never be able to please everybody. What I am very sure of though is that everyone here has put forth a tremendous effort and most of you guys/gals will be very pleased.

I can guarantee that if they aren't in the vanilla game, which is highly likely and preferable, then chances are a month after release someone will probably make a mod or two that allows you to use them as mounts. I'd bet my life savings on it.

You have a great point, and for the record, eragon is a childrens book. i bet everyone here would think of that book as bull**** given that the person who wrote it stole most of the ideas from the LOTR series

And from Anne McCaffrey.

you should take note that your opinion OP isnt exactly everyone elses (the majority of votes say no) dragons are the enemy along with alduin i would have thought many understood it as such by now apparently i was mistaken.point being the dragons are the enemy and so is alduin it would be cheap and gimmicky of them to make something that is supposed to be the enemy rideable. not to mention these arent mindless behemoths they are sentient and probably would dislike anyone riding on them just as the average person would not want someone asking for a piggy back ride.

WoW isn't what i was working towards. Besides, how many good games do you find where you can ride dragons?

I know of a good game where you can BECOME a Dragon (and the dragon is a playable role):

http://www.divinity2.com/index_eng.html

Can't say it really compares to TES though...it's good, but not awesome.

Riding dragons would not only be awesome, but it would change the way we would play the game. To be able to fly around Skyrim would make things easier and definitely give new aspects to the game.

So what do you think?

Yeah, thats exactly what we need. 'make things easier' in this game. We already have Kabuki theater of breathing fire from your mouth and streamlining of skills and attributs, I'll pass.

Yes, there have been cases in the lore of players riding dragons(one book, they went to the summerset isles, a dunmer mage, and some kidnapped kid, and in that same book, someone was riding a unicorn. Cant remember the book though), but it would not be suited to this game, simply because dragons are, at that point in time, trying to destroy the world.

I stand as somewhat indifferent, but do not have any problem with riding being in or with riding being out. What I contest though, is the idea that it would be this catastrophic, lore destroying thing, when it has in fact been mentioned in the lore of past games that there are in fact people who have ridden dragons, but only people who the dragons themselves have come to regard as respected or as friend.

Alduin and his dragons are indeed our enemies, but that does not change the fact that it has already been stated that not all dragons will be hostile, and not all dragons follow Alduin's will. Unless it has changed, we know that there will be a dragon shout that is the name of an actual dragon, who will be summoned in to aid us in battle.

What we do not know, is if that dragon's role extends beyond being a summonable minion. There is a possibility that that dragon could be their own character that plays some role in the story, and there is also the possibility that ..if riding is in fact in the game, they could be persuaded to allow us to ride them into combat should we be proven worthy.

Dragons have been worked on for years now by Bethesda. If they decide to add dragon riding in, I expect it will be of the same quality as anything else.

ok, well if you dont mind telling me, why is this all "preposterous"? Why would you to NOT ride dragons?

Dragons are similar to the great eagles from LotR, they are smart, proud and don't do courier missions.

Dragon riding would MURDER the game. It would seriously drop my trust in Bethesda SO much if they incorporated dragon riding in Skyrim. I'm done here, so goodbye.

Not so sure. From a technical stand, IF this were in the game, it would bring console graphics to their knees. Imagine having to quickly load textures and draw distances at that quick of a rate. Walking or riding a horse would not be an issue, but flying at high speed would. LOADING AREA every few seconds anyone..

Not necessarily, we do not know what their new engine is or is not capable of.

We do know what it is designed for. And it is not designed for high-speed dragon dogfights.

Only if they gave me aerial combat and lances.

It would be neat to have 2011 game do the same.

Very true. Remember people, never console command your way to speed 100,000. It does not work very well.

Negatory. It is designed for what they need it to do. I doubt they would create a brand new engine that is inflexible and incapable of expansion and large-scale modification for whatever purposes they may require for future games. If they need dragon dogfights, they would surely find a way for it to work.

Yep. See "Battle with Umaril over the Imperial City," ie "separate featureless worldspace."

What if... What if the game (or a mod :chaos:) included a separate world space of mountain tops & clouds, where an areal dragon fight (of some kind) could take place at fatal speeds ~if you hit the mountain you'd be dead anyway, and if you fell off, you'd not survive hitting the ground.
Landing could be on a perch or deck of some kind; or if you descend far enough, the dragon auto lands and you dismount.

I would not mind something like this in Skyrim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsEA2OgC0RE
(Real time, with full control would be nice ~but... I'd be fine with a more structured flight if needs be.)
