Dragon Underpowered

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 12:28 pm

After playing TESV:Skyrim for over 30 hours on the PC I'm beginning to think that Dragons aren't nearly as strong as they should be, it takes a short time to kill them and their attacks don't deal much damage. In addition they always seem to show up right in the middle of quests, although this wouldnt be a problem if it didn't happen so often. The battles against dragons begin to feel much less epic when your fighting one and a troll or something similar shows up and kills you with ease. I also found that in highly populated areas there would be no restrictions of what dragons would kill so you would end up with dead npc's that could have given you a quest.
At the moment with my current character I am lvl 23 and have 4 unused dragon souls with 7 unlocked shouts.

My Requests for Dragons:
- Less frequent
- A little more health
- Stronger attacks
- Avoid quest giving npc's

Yes, they are a bit underpowered. Even the blood dragons.

The regular Dragons are pretty easy. The Blood Dragons and Frost Dragons tend to be a bit more like the challenge from earlier. And there's more high tier Dragons than those apparently.

I think they could use a few tweaks. As it stands, the frequency with which I run into them relative to their difficulty is quite good. However, I wouldn't mind seeing a few less of them, but having the battles be harder.

To be honest I think if you added the same music a fight with a frost troll would be more epic.

I just turn into a lycan and eat the frost troll, nothing like a cold snack

From the perspective of a mage, these guys are a cakewalk. They attack far too infrequently to have any real risk of dying, and i just heal myself up. Do they even have a melee attack? If they do, make it much harder to avoid, because i haven't been hit by it once. Getting hit by that breath looks absolutely devastating, but in reality it hits about as hard as an apprentice fire mage channeling flame on me. I can ward incorrectly against that breath and still survive very very easily even though i have no magic resist and ive only increased my base health three times on leveling up and im level 23.

These things need to hit harder and more frequently to have any hope of beating a mage with even a modicum of experience in the restoration school.

Well, I fixed the difficulty by turning it up to expert, but I agree: Most dragons are a bit too weak. The Frost Dragon is still pretty strong though.

Well for balance reasons if dragons are too hard, it wouldn't be as fun for people, seeing as they are part of the plot.

On the other hand, you have giants who can massacre you easily.

Why don't we wait till level 50? Maybe the giants will have stopped scaling, but dragons may continue to scale and be as powerful as they should be.

I've put the difficulty upto master, fighting them as a melee 2handed warrior is very challenging.

Once they are grounded, I can't seem to find a viable method to kill one without having to retreat or let lydia tank it from a few minutes whilst I heal.

You can't completely block a dragons attack, nor is your armour sufficient enough to kill it.

Giants can one shot me on master difficulty, not sure why dragons are not up to that standard.

(i like a challenge)

i hate how every time i go to winterhold a dragon attacks..
what i thin they should do

double the loot drops, dragons appear half as much
dragon health doubled
dragon damage increased by 20%, this should be enough as dragons do decent damage they just never seem to hit anything while flying around
dragons should attack non player enemies more but not as far away, i've had dragons attack wolves like 50 yards away for no reason
dragons when they do attack almost never seem to do what we saw in the walkthroughs, where they pick up something and drop it, i've seen it 1 time and it was MY horse... if they did that to some guards or bandits shooting them, they won't die as fast

They should just fix the bones that are left behind, really buggy, and annoying when they for example keep laying around in the Mages College -.-

only have fought one so far, so i can't really speak to how over/underpowered they are, but what i do know is that i spent about 5 minutes fighting mirmulnir while it took me about 10 to kill a frost troll on the way to the grey beards. the frost troll was harder but thats not to say that dragons a weak, this troll took every thing i had to kill it, and i still died 3 times.

@egyptraider thats intentional, they are meant to stay behind.

I know that. The problem is, is that it's annoying 1. cus if you go back later they start jumping and flying around (yes, talking about the bones) and they keep lying in the way in places like the college of winterhold.. that's just annoying...

The dragons I fought take down 1/2 to 3/4 of my HP in one attack if I don't interrupt them or hide, and take quite a bit of time to kill sometimes. Maybe it's just because I'm level 13.
