I was disapointed how Storn dies and gives up the Skall knowlege, seemingly for no good reason.
Anyone else feel that way? Or have other opinions on the story?

My elf grew more and more uncomfortable with putting up with Jabba the Hutt (Hermaeus Mora) over the course of the questline - she felt like she needed a bath every time he talked to her. When asked to betray the Skaal, she simply walked away from the questline in disgust.
In future playthroughs, I doubt she'll go back to Solstheim. Too bad as it is fun to explore. Bethesda, however, for some reason felt it necessary to so intertwine that disgusting questline into the DLC that you cannot really just explore the place in peace. I so hope one day they learn that many of us don't give a skeever's behind about their questlines; we just want to roam and play in what is otherwise a fascinating sandbox.
I compare the Dragonborn DLC to Oblivion's Shivering Isles DLC. Both questlines were so far out of line for my character that she would never complete them. The big difference though is that one could explore the Shivering Isles and ignore the questline. Not really possible in Solstheim. So, unfortunately, the Dragonborn DLC is an epic fail in my book.
In fallout you could fail one quest and get an alternate quest that changed the story. I don't know why that wasn't done here. I haven't saved the dragonborn ending on my main play through, I went back to a save before I went to Solsteim. As far as I'm concerned Miraak is stuck in the other place and Herma-Mora is best avoided like the plague.
One thing you should know about Daedric princes is that they are incredibly petty. To Hermaeus Mora, the fact that the Skaal's secrets were secret made them irresistible.
Agreed, both major Skyrim DLCs ended up being a huge disappointment.
I ended up using console commands(without starting the main quest) to destroy all the stones and bring back everyone so the Skaal village would be more lively. Refuse to go any further especially after doing the quest back on the Ps3.
My Dovah refuses to work with any Deadra, so Mora can throw a tantrum if he wants.
You can get the Bend Will shout from the hilltop, spend a dragon soul on it, and then free the Skaal from the stone without officially starting the Dragonborn main quest.
I feel like that's kinda the point, though. Sometimes you have to do some nasty stuff in order to do the right thing in the long run. Yeah, it svcks having to make a deal with a Daedric Prince, but that's the price that has to be paid in order to save the island. I actually ended up liking the ending for that reason, it was a nice change of pace in this game.
