Dragonborn

Post » Mon Dec 07, 2009 11:54 pm

In the new Skyrim video (which might I add a thank you to Bethesda for finally confirming TESV it after all this time), the narrator speaks of a "Dragonborn". My questions are, Wasn't MArtin and the entire Septim bloodline Dragonborn? And if so does this mean we are playing as a descendant to Talos (whos descendants became the Dragonborn by Akatosh)? It would far better explain how one saves the world, being of legendary bloodline and not just some prisoner who happens to be chosen by the gods.

yea but if you are from their bloodline you have to be an imperial so theres got to be another explanation. i think you will follow the paths of another dragonborn to have the same results he had fighting against some dragon

Perhaps with the Septim bloodline extinct (Maybe?), Akatosh chooses a new Dragonborn. Either that or the Septim bloodline is diluted with other races, so you can choose any race you want. Those are my guesses anyway.

My guess is that there's something special about this Dovahkiin, else the dragons we're assuming are on a mission to wreak havoc wouldn't fear them. At least, that's my reasoning, and my hope, since I'd kind of like to see the series break a little away from ground we've already covered. Don't want to feel like I'm playing Oblivion all over again, albeit with - I'm assuming - much more mind-blowing graphics and physics, you know what I mean?

My guess is that you are a reincarnation of one of the Dragon Born (Perhaps Tiber Septim) or you do something incredible to "mantle the persona" of Dragon Born.

However, it is 1:00 AM, and I've had a long day. Thus I am extremely tired and my hypothesis might not make much sense at all when I read it in the morning.

type it up tomorrow then, I'm eager to read it. I was thinking you are reincarnated too, but it seems cliche'

Dovahkiin is just a word in some other tongue (their tongue) that means Dragonborn its not the name of a person. in the trailer they say ... In their tongue he's Dovahkiin... Dragon Born. i strongly believe that Dovah stands for Dragon and kiin(kin) stands for Born

i'm assuming you are once again in this game a Chosen One lol

Will do. :)

Though it would be made of mostly guesswork.

I'm aware of that, I just like writing Dovahkiin better. Sounds a lot cooler, and also, I'm thinking there's a reason it's mentioned in the trailer beyond the hint of dragons. As in, this particular "Dragonborn" person is unique in some way. As in, they're unique because the player is this person.

I'm not making the mistake of assuming that, but I do WANT it to be so. My purchase of Skyrim, and perhaps even interest in further adventures in the Elder Scrolls universe, hinges on it.

i think the his way of being unique is like that he is the ONE that defeated dragons in the past and like him you will be called Dovahkiin too by them and the Dragonborn by the populace

and i kind of feel like you about this chosen one thing. i prefer to be that guy with undefined past that this guy who was that and has that and etc... (i dont want my character to always be a noble if im a desendant of tiber septiem or i dont want my character to always be an ex farmer etc....) the cool th ing about getting out of jail is that your character seems to have absolutely no past you are what you decide to be.

Sure hope not, I hate the nine divines and the whole Imperial Dragonborn thing.

Thats the one flaw I find about my favorite game series is that Bethesda forces you into this role whether you want it or not. If I had a choice I would have sided with the Daedra in OB.

Would work for me. I really did enjoy being called the Nerevarine by every NPC I came across after finishing the Morrowind MQ. Now if they'd only bowed to me as well for pwning Dagoth Ur and all his minions... :)

Bethesda's been pretty consistent about that aspect of the Elder Scrolls games. Hell, they hinge on that really. I'm sure we'll all be starting as nothing and building ourselves into something once again. I just want that "something" to include being a true hero of Tamriel, not just a glorified errand-boy. They can kill my character afterward, I don't care. In games, death is temporary, but glory is forever.

i like starting from prison and i think you might have a little dragon blood in your character so thats why they call you dragon born but the blood comes from an unknown bloodline and the other dragons fear that because there is an unknown entity with who knows how much power and the dragons fear that uncertainty and thats why they fear you.....at least thats my theory

considering you take up a pretty huge mantle in shivering isles, i dont think it'd be too hard to believe you could be taking up the mantle of a god-hero such as tiber septim...

...actually, from what i've read about tiber septim on UESP wiki, wasnt tiber septim... er, talos... born in atmora?

he also spent his youth in skyrim and learned the art of the tongues and all that...

ok, tiber septim/talos HAS to be involved in this game's story somehow... those kinda details, this talk about the dragons fearing the dragon born/dovahkiin...

tiber septim was capable of using thu'um, right?

he was also considered a son of skyrim... things are certainly pointing towards talos being part of the story, in one way or another.

though, i could be entirely wrong, but still...

Or even better: You're a descendant of the one who defeated the dragons (or whatever the enemy is) long ago, as well as of a lineage whose origin remains unclear.

either way works for me, i honestly dont care if my character is going to have dragons blood in him or if hes the descendant of some epic hero if the trailer actually hints on anything besides the title of the game then i want to be feared by the fantasy worlds most fearsome creatures, cause when you hear the dragons fear him you know hes gotta be a badass

When I first saw the video, I thought he said, "In their tongue, he is known as Novocaine; Dragonborn." And I was like, novocaine? Is this about a dentist who tries to find a way to use anesthesia on removing the dragon's tooth or something?

I thought it was "Nova King" until I watched it again with the sound up a lot higher.

To say that you would have to be imperial is wrong isn't it? Since Tiber Septim was Nordic?

The dragonborn are those who are of Alessia's line (and who happened to start all three of the empires)
