DragonKnight vs Sorc magicka focused Discussion

Post » Sat Mar 29, 2014 1:26 pm

I've been taking a look at the light armour/magicka focused possible ability builds for dragonknight and sorcerer and it seems the sorcerer classes spells are at a disadvantage to DK's regarding pvp in terms of damage and self-healing, if we were to imagine a 1v1 between the two. (I'm talking more specifcally about a solo situation here rather than looking at group battles)

For example crystal shard has a cast time allowing for interrupt, dark exchange has a duration to cast( restoring magicka also I know) while dragons blood is instant, as well as DK's Draconic Power having passive abilities which greatly boost healing and seem to outweigh the magicka cost reductions/regeneration that Sorcerers passive abilities have a lot of. I mean, if it were somehow an extended fight between the two those passives/restoration of magicka would of course become more useful.

Encase immobilizes for 3.5 seconds but deals no damage until upgraded to deal damage or to snare. While dark talons immobilizes for 3.5 seconds, also dealing damage, and can be morphed to reduce enemies damage by 15%.

I can't argue with most of storm-calling but even so, these are just a few examples, if you take an in-depth look at DK's class abilities/passives vs Sorc, it appears that DK has a significant advantage in this kind of situation.

Have others come to the same conclusion for magicka focused characters in pvp? I'd be happy to hear any info that shows otherwise, i've been trying to convince myself to start with a sorc, just need some guidance as I've played DK more in the beta. (sorc only to lvl 12 while DK to something like 22)

Thanks for any input.

played Sorc and DK up to level 8

DK came out tops because of instant damage abilities.

The Sorc casting times are just way to slow, especially

if in close combat.

in close combat the Sorc casting can be interrupted, the Dk instant casts abilities can not

however, the DK wepon based abilities can be blocked.

The Sorc lightning form is not bad, however

the DK Draconic armor lasts almost three times as long and does a wee bit more damage to attackers

So it comes down to playstile. Close up or distant. In close up the DK has the advantage, and in distant combat the Sorc.

However...the DK das a quite nasty chain to pull distant enemies near.

Since I like close-up fighting the DK is for me.

I have a feeling that DK is the silent assassin. Not many people play them, or talk about them, but I think they are going to be VERY powerful.

as far as magicka is concerned... the DK is more friendly. My level 7 DK played well with 0 magicka allocation/ 6 heath allocation and 1 stamina allocation.

Yes, i was wondering about this...I did not put even 1 point into magicka and the magicka dependent DK skills did just fine. I hope they do not chang anything in this aspect.

Personally, i think its BS that a Magica based DK will ALWAYS be waaay more powerful then a stamina based.

Its the same story in every mmo and i am disappointed that Zinemax's Devs couldn't find a way to break

the ugly tradition.

A Magics based DK will wipe the floor with huge amounts of NPCs without much problems, while a stamina-based

DK will have much problems. And even more problems for a pure physical DK that doesn't use any magic-skills.

Unless you use magica-based skills on your character in TESO, you are screwed /GG balance.

I agree, most people including myself will start off the game as nightblade, but I think that the Dk will be way more popular in the future once people get bored with NBs and see the potential of DKs

Don't focus just on cast times. Sorcerer is a really strong class that will shine against anyone. The two most important factors are mobility and range and in both the sorcerer is king.

Also, keep in mind that it depends on how you develop your specific class build and the player's skill involved.
