No your light armor skill and perks probably make it better. If you had the Heavy armor skill just as high as your light armor skill with similar perks you would see it has much more armor rating....

Correct me if i'm wrong: I have 2 characters but i have progressed more in my warrior character than my thief, so i can't speak for Light Armour, but Daedric Armour has a higher base resistance than Dragon Plate even though Dragon Plate is only obtainable by maxing out smithing; which would consequentially make Dragon Plate armour a purely aesthetic choice and practically pointless. Wouldn't be surprised if it worked in a similar way on the Light Armour side. I don't understand why it's like this, and it doesn't make much sense to me, but i'm not too fussed either way as i quite enjoy my Daedric Armour.

You are absolutely right about everything you just said. The reasoning for this in my opinion was that dragon scales and bones are more plentiful then daedra hearts, but play long enough and you will come to see how false that is when you can buy daedra hearts.

A simpler argument would be who cares if game mechanics don't make sense? It's all about role-playing and deciding to wear dragonplate armor because it fits your character's role, despite not making sense.
