dragonrend shout

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:08 pm

dragonrend in its own right is a nice little shout thats very handy, but when you want a dragon to land and it just circles in the air long enough that the effect wears out is just plain annoying.

my idea to make this a better shout in my opinion is to instead of making them land, it should make them crashland.

think about it, the dragonrend shout is suppose to force them to land, not make them land eventually on there terms of landing. being a crashland would make the shout feel alot more powerful.

i dont know how hard that would be to implement but its just an idea.

what are yours thoughts on this idea? good, bad or do you think its fine how it is?

I would rather have a huge expansion then a ripoff DLC.

It makes them think about their mortalitly. I allways imagine them landing and going "Dude..." thanks to the shout.

Yes, but then you need to make that the Shout takes longer to "recharge" because this is going to be very powerfull..

But great idea friend. ;)

That would be a total nightmare. Dragons would wind up on top of houses and mountains and god knows where. How would the dragon get down? You would have to implement fall damage for dragons. They would get stuck. Once they get stuck, how do you deal with another dragon respawning in the same area? What happens when the dragon crash lands in a lake? How about in an unreachable area? They can hardly just have you lose a dragon occasionally when this happens because several dragons are quest specific and you have to kill them to progress. This compulsory landing would cause quest breaking bugs in numerous circumstances. The reason that dragonrend works how it does. It forces them to land, rather than literally pulling them down into a crash landing. From a programming standpoint, dragonrend just triggers the land sequence in dragons. To force them to crash immediately you would have to disable the entire dragon flight sequence. Even when you put a dragon in critical condition, it does not immediately crash for this reason. It flies to an area where there is clear land and then crashes, which essentially is what dragonrend does, with a different animation.

I think dragons should have their speed, damage output, and defense drastically increased. But have dragonrend affect those increases and bring them to more safe value (though still higher than it is now), while at the same time better affecting the landing property.

Also, dragonrend needs to be changed so it is not 100% sustainable. Even if you use the level 3 shout, you can reapply it before it wears off, keeping them perma grounded.

Overall, I think dragons should be much, much harder to beat, with dragonrend making them just barely manageable.

imo dragonrend should physically rend a dragon apart, like a thousand hands pulling in different directions. but thats just what the name implies to me :P

I agree completely. But we should leave this one to the modders, I wouldn't want bethesda wasting time on stuff like this.
