Dragons are too frequent?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:45 am

One issue that I think is fixable via a patch Im sure is Dragons............... Spawning every freakin 5mins??????

Less is more in my book.................

Dragons tend to lose there mystique and general Epic-ness when they are spawning so frequently..........

Bethesda .... Help?

The further you get along in the quest line, the more frequent they spawn. You're probably about to ride to Skuldafn.

You should have acted. They're already here.

The Elder Scrolls told of their return...

Yeah...they're a bit frequent sometimes, but I like that they're not like finding a needle in a haystack. They're meant to be causing mayhem.

Basically from what I gathered dragons use to be very very common and could not be killed permanently without a dragon born so now they are back in force. Even though makes me wonder about that one land mass where they where very common also can't recall its name.

Kinda like how the MQ goes on they become more common fits in with the them.

I do not think they spawn to often, they appear every once in a while. But if the spawn more as the main quest goes on I do not know. I have only did the first few missions until I got the house in Whiterun.

For as long as you don't use fast travel a lot they don't appear frequently.

Very good point spawn rates do depend on fast travel and where you do it to.

The later the game goes I found the spawns much more frequent, likely the mainquest too is what drives them. But they are meant to be like any other creature of the wild, except much more aggressive and supposed to be a threat of the story.

When I first came to Whiterun, I would guess that is where you kill the first dragon to start the whole Dragonborn saga could be other ways in the game idk. After that It was rare to come across them I played for many in game hours and never seen one. Now today I played for like 2-3 hours and came across 3.

Also consider in game time as well, I think it affects the likely hood a dragon will move out to a region or spawn again. I fought a same dragon in the same place from where it used to be the quest objective.

I'm wondering if it's just random with some kind of modifier. I finished the main quest and since then they are popping up like jack rabbits! They are EVERYWHERE. Sometimes they don't even bother roaring or circling me. I had one scare the crap out of me by landing right in front me! Freakin' thing came out of no where! Oh well. I've got enough bones and scales to make a full set plus shields for every companion member so when I do finally pick a side for the war, we're gonna win lol ;)

I don't understand why dragons random spawn. Would be better story/gameplay wise for attacks to be scripted and be like epic battles (similar to the first). If you have one for each major town and one for each dragon roost, plus wherever else might trigger them during the MQ (maybe the Throat?), that's more than enough dragons for everyone.

For me, dragon spam is no better than Oblivion Gate spam.

I have not seen a random dragon in my game since I ran into the backwards flying dragon...Not sure if its part of the bug or not...

Which would be why I rarely see them. I'd rather hoof it out between objectives and side explore than click and appear where I need to go.

It seems like they are every damn day of game world time.....

I mean really, less is more...

I love the Dragons, they're epic! BUT they get decidedly less epic when they appear every five minutes.... Its kind of overkill.

You're complaining about dragon spawns in a game where they're meant to spawn rapidly? Where do I start on that one?

I personally prefer it if they spawn more, it'd be bring if it was too easy

I'm level 17 and I only saw four dragons. Maybe it's because I left the main quest too early in order to join the Winterhold's college and then started on completing every single quest I find. I don't fast travel and maybe this is one of the reasons they aren't that frequent in my game.

yeah, but how many dragons in the world do I need to kill for them to be less common, I mean, that was semi the point of the main quest, stop dragons from wrecking everything, you'd think they would start giving the Dragonborn a wide berth after he kills 50 of your brothers

@chojin- it is boring, I would prefer less frequent dragons that make me say "Oh [censored] " everytime I see one instead of "another one?...well gotta figure out how to get it down so I can hurry and kill it and move on"

I guess it depends on how tired you are of fantasy tropes. In a game full of fantasy cliche (although cliche done well, I suppose), the fact that dragons aren't super-rare-and-ultimately-powerful creatures is refreshing. It's one of the few points of difference between Skyrim and other fantasy games that makes me like Skyrim just a little more than I already do.

You see them A LOT more if you fast travel a lot.

I think the probability that you see them goes up the longer in "game time" it has been since you last encountered one. Thus, if you fast travel, it can go like this:

1. Fight a dragon
2. Fast travel from Winterhold to Markarth and back a couple times
3. It has now been a ton of game time since you last fought a dragon so you'll likely encounter one quickly thereafter even though you actually fought one really recently in real life

If you're tired of fighting dragons a lot, don't fast travel. The game wants you to have a certain number of dragon fights. You will likely have the same number of fights with dragons whether you fast travel or not. The difference is, without fast travel, you will spend a lot less time doing other stuff, so dragon fights will seem more frequent.

I never fast travel and I still think the numbers are ridiculous, and there is also my point, the game just keeps spawning dragons at the same frequency, it doesn't seem to go down just up as you beat the MQ, there isn't a set number of fights it *wants* you to have. I think at least once you start killing them enough their numbers should wane

Dragonrend + a weapon that does extra damage to dragons. I have a katana that does 24 base damage, plus 25 points of damage against a dragon or 10 points of shock damage to non-dragon foes. Hell, you can even add that to any other weapon and have two and load yourself up with apparel, perks, shouts, food and potions that make you swing one handed weapons faster for more damage.

Sorry if this posts twice, I went to edit something and it wouldn't let me post it
