Dragons are worse than Oblivion Gates

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:45 am

Oblivion Gates were cool the first few times, but after a while when I saw a Gate out in the wilds I would just ignore it and move along. That is if I even bothered to get far enough in the main quest for them to spawn.

Now we have Dragons but the difference between them and Oblivion Gates is that if you ignore a Dragon it's going to follow you and kill every NPC you go near potentially ruining quests, killing shop keepers, etc. After dropping a Dragon for the 30th time it gets really routine. Dragons arn't a challenge, just like Oblivion Gates weren't, they are just time consuming but as I pointed out earlier if you ignore them the game will punish you for it.

All of this would be a lot more bearable if the game wasn't literally throwing Dragons at you by the bucket load.

All in all I feel that the frequency of Dragons needs decreasing somewhat with their difficulty increasing.

Odd, I have a much different experience. This time around instead of me ignoring the random gates that pop up the random dragons simply ignore me. I thought they were just scenery like birds until I saw they were trying to fix them in the patch notes. They just fly in, circle a few times, then disappear into the horizon. Much better than an Oblivion gate that will sit there forever. :teehee:

Oblivion gates never got old for me, becuz i knew there would be some nice loots ahead :D

that being said, im on my 2nd playthrough and Avoiding the MQ entirely, i just got sick of all the Dragons spawning and not posing a real danger at all, just a mere annoyance

and ive got to tell you, im enjoying it far more without the dragons, it got old rather quick, Only the scripted ones involving MQ where fun to listn to and play against.

I hated Oblivion gates. At least one can down a dragon rather quickly and be done with it. Not quite as annoying, but still annoying.

I agree with the OP. They just got too much for me. Literally killing a dragon every 15 minutes.

So I started a new game and totally ignoring the main quest. Sad though cuz I LIKED the main quest in this game. Oh well.

Lots of stuff to do besides that though.

I agree that they should be less frequent, but should be much MUCH harder. They just not epic enough.

They're the new cliffracers, I think that would be a better comparison

Hate Oblivion gates.
Love Dragons.

Got Oblivion gates to pop up all over the place.
After ~120 hours of Skyrim I still don't have the achievement for which you have to absorb 20 Dragon souls. They're not common enough to spoil it for me.

Also they're pretty tricky to me and I can easily handle 3+ Bears or Sabercats at the same time. Maybe my copy of Skyrim is blessed by Talos? (I play on expert/master for the record, depending on my character and its overpoweredness.)

Uhh, I have had very few dragons appear in my three games. Others have also noted this. It seems to be somewhat random (well, more random than even what you might assume since it is definitely random anyway). Also, I bellieve that the rate increases the farther you go into the main quest. You could stay in the first arc of the main quest and just trigger the first dragon, then the others will be far less frequent as long as you don't go further in the MQ.

I kind of agree... I was in the middle of restoring the Gildergreen and upon agreeing to escort the Pilgrim to the grove, a dragon spawned and the pilgrim died. Knowing his "involvement" was necessary for the quest path I wanted I reloaded and went 5 different paths to get him there safe even then he spawned inside the cave with me with barely a hairs width of health left.
Now I think of random dragon attacks as an FML... Especially when it happens in the middle of a town or at the College.

I've avoided the MQ like the plague because of this. Are they relatively easy to avoid? Obviously I don't want to lure them into towns and wipe out NPC's, but I would likely try to outrun them or just hide.

Meh i still enjoy killing dragons, if did some swooping attacks that involved teeth rather than their fire breath or used more dragon shouts (so far i've only actually seen them use the fire breath and ice breath shouts so correct me if i'm wrong in this), they seem to just do the same thing over and over which i guess could be tedious though as i said i still find them enjoyable

Dragons don't appear frequently in my game. Besides, they don't spoil the scenery like those horrible Oblivion Gates.

Oh dragons can be a pest at times but die easy enough, those bloody oblivion gates however, gah, now that got tedious.

Oblivion gates were cool at first, then they became like cliff racers.

Dragons are cool in my opinion, although since completing the main quest i am unsure if they attack you still or not. Most just fly past me now and don't even engage. Can't be sure since the last patch I've had nothing but problems.

Hopefully there will be a mod that reduces or removed the dragon spawns after the MQ is over or I have the souls needed for the Shouts.

I have 50 spare dragon souls. Yep 50!!! Dragons should indeed be tougher and less frequent through out the game. When i began the game again i just avoided the main quest to stop them poping up completely. At least Oblivion gates didn't follow you around the place and kill of the local town inhabitants...ok except Kvatch. Plus when you beat the MQ in Oblvion the gates close and in Morrowind the ghost fence came down and Blight disappeared. No matter what you do you are not getting rid of the Dragons. At. All.

I love the dragons, hearing the music change/dragon roar as it comes in for the kill........epic.

In 62 hours i think i've encountered less than 20 dragons so not really excessive in my opinion.

Trouble is my character is such a badass that the dragons take one look at him and fly away backwards in pure terror.
