Dragons - Far to easy to defeat (expert)

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:03 am

Does anyone else find this to be the case?

I was expecting them to be much much harder. I have no taken damage from a dragon in the last 4 occasions. Far to easy to beat.

In fact in some cases i could easily have with into an inn, had a cuppa tea and some soup while my friends defeated the dragon.

I am not even that far into the game. Level 14.

yep,agreed!!try it on master,no difference than expert...*sigh....

1) Up the difficulty to Master.

2) Try fighting dragons alone; of course it'll be easy when an entire town is doing all the work.

3) Dragons scale with you so your level doesn't matter much, and you'll face stronger dragons later in the game. The ones you're beating are the babies/weaklings.

Im getting tired of hearing Dragons are to easy from people that use crafting and exploits to defeat them.

How to make dragons challenging?

1. Dont use Companions as cannonfodder.

2. Turn up your difficulty to Master.

3. Use only the armor and weapons you find/buy without using the grinding stone or enchants for now.

4. Refrain from cheating or exploiting.

5. Stop running away.

If you still find dragons easy repeat step 1-5.

I was walking outside of Whiterun and saw one fly by towards the city. I ran to see if I could get in on the action. I never saw where it went.

I 100% agree. I avoid giants at all costs. I did kill my first the other night though only to find i did not have a big enough soul gem to store soul. What size do i need? Giant?

Actually, something happened last night that reminded me of this thread. I was sneaking through the wilds when I saw an ice dragon. I sneaked in his direction preparing for the fight when I see the dragon attacking a giant. Wanting to test the theory that the dragons in the beginning svck, I just stood there watching, and guess who wins... the giant ate everything the dragon had and still had 3/4 of his hit points. When the dragon finally landed, he took 3 hits and died. Guess who then sneaked in and fetched a dragon soul? Easiest soul in the game

Anyway, I don't think the problem is that dragons are too easy, the problem is that they are far more impressive than any other creature in the world... yet, they're so much weaker than even those nasty cockroach-type-thingies. They had to do this because you're supposed to kill one in the beginning, so they have to make them svck. This is disappointing because it hurts the immersion... I mean, here we are, a whole nation scared [censored]less because of these beasts, when most of the wildlife can take care of them.

Dragons were also too easy for me at that level. Now I'm level 20 and dragons have become much harder. Expert difficulty.

I think you're right, they are quite easy. My last encounter with a dragon (outside the gates of Riften) I was looking forward to giving it the final blow. But a horse fr?n the stables stole that from me. A horse took the final blow and then slowly went back into the stables. WTF! A horse bit the dragon to death... I just stood there wondering what had happend...

What am I doing wrong then?
I'm a lvl 13 bosmer using light armor and dual wield. And I'm not even getting close to killing a dragon.

That's because dual wield + light armour is pretty much the worst outfit to have to kill a dragon. The first thing that makes dragon encounters rather easy is ranged damage. If you have that, you can sprint around to stay out of range of the dragon breath, or hide behind obstacles. Then the fight will take a bit longer, but eventually you'll get him down low enough to crash to the ground, and you can patiently finish him off.

If you don't have good ranged damage, you need a good defense, and some way to stun dragons. Shield or weapon bashes are great for this, as this will stop their breath attacks. Also you need strong armour to not die from their melee attack.

I find the hardest thing to do is to deal with them while they're swooping around blowing fire/frost in my face. Once they hit the ground, it's on like Donkey Kong.

But seriously, they're not the worst thing in the game. Giants, mammoths, sabre cats, bears, trolls -- these are the stuff of the Dovahkiin's nightmares.

Dragons are too common and too easy, they should be epic battles and rare tough beasts. Skyrim has the worst dragons in any RPG I have ever played.

On Master, I've only faced about 3 dragon fights that were difficult. My first blood dragon when I was low level, a pair of dragons attacking me at the same time, and some named dragon. I'm only level 37 at the moment though.

Every dragon fight can be summed up as:

Fire breath or ice breath
Fly around
Land somewhere
Fly again
Land on a building
Fly around
Land on the exact same building you landed on last time
Die

Or, it could be even shorter with dragonrend.

I play a mage, use no enchanting or smithing, and I smoke dragons easily everytime. Also your issue on difficulty is moot, people aren't saying that the game is too easy, but that dragons are too easy when compared to the rest of the game.

I used to think that too (also play on expert) but I've found that once you hit lvl 20+ they get waay harder. I'm a redguard archer and on several occasions I've been forced into near death experiences from them (died once or twice). Now if there's more than one I have to run because they'll easily put lydia on her knees(lol) and come after me.

I don't like the music that plays when one is fighting you. It scares me.

Normal "Dragons" are frankly pretty easy unless you're super low level. But Elder and Ancient (or double Ancient, that was a real party) require some effort.

The problem is that once the dragons actually have really challenging stats, fighting them becomes a matter of finding a bit of terrain where you can shelter from breath and get them to land in a consistent location, then go through the repeated motions until they die. But honestly I can't expect better AI, it's pretty darn good for this type of game already.
