Dragons instead of fast-travel?

Post » Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:05 pm

Well, I'm not that opposed to fast travel, but I think that dragons would be much cooler, since after all, you are a Dragonborne! (or the?)

So people that like fast-travel can still basically do it, maybe a bit slower, but also get to ride a DRAGON!
And those people that don't like fast-travel because you miss out on the scenery can also get around on foot, but at times, when they need to move across the whole of Skyrim, they can enjoy the view, instead of watching a loading screen.

Of course, it must be balanced, so the dragon won't be a very effective attacker, maybe a weak fire-breath at most.

And they should be summon-able spells, of which you can buy scrolls from, and you can also use Conjuration to summon one.
But you can also have permanent ones you buy from a stable, and while not as fast as the conjured ones, it is slightly more convienient.

Not only dragons, but horses, Mages Guild teleportation, Mark and Recall, and travel services.

Dragons are meant to be evil in the game, so that's just [censored] [censored]

EDIT: there should be stagecoaches, boats, caravans, mammoths and frost striders

This is what I'm thinking, except no dragons.

Um, do you know anything about Dragons in TES? They aren't dumb beasts, they're an ancient race more intelligent than your average Tamrielan. The thought of them being some form of "pet transport" is just absurd!

Unlike many, I can actually see the whole dragon riding thing working quite well (if done in the Warhammer Fantasy tabletop monster mount style, and not in the bad book/bad film style...), but most definitely not as a fast travel system. Something fantastical, but ordinary in-world (like Morrowind's silt striders), or something instantly familiar (boats, mounts) works far better.

What? Dragons are the only way to travel. I'd rather go with a third option mentioning; teleports, boats etc.

As dragons are the antagonist in the game, I find it unlikely that you'll be riding any of them.

If there were stupid gnomes IRL, and they lived underground and ate mud in every meal and didn′t know how to speak or read, then would you let them mount your shoulder and would you run with them from place to place as they desired while snot ran down their faces and they giggled like little kids ?

That′s how the Dragons view us Humanoids, unintelligent and pitiful, living down in places no Dragon would say sufficed for their mighty race.

So NO!

I want Morrowind's fast travel system, with the ability to turn Oblivion's "click on the map and teleport there" off/on by a setting.

everyone far enough if you want the morrowind system but stop saying turn off/on fast travel its optional no ones forcing you to press it and if you get so tempted at the point where you have no self control download one of the hundreds of no/alternative fast travel mods

That′s a bad argument because Bethesda changes the game depending on if they have fast travel or not, in Morrowind we had Silt Striders (could have been carriages/vagons/caravans/what-ever-you-call-it, in Oblivion) and boats (could also have been small rowboats in Oblivion) and Spells that aided your traveling, in Oblivion we had none because Bethesda decided to have fast travel, so they removed immersion and choise, and that is never a good thing in an RPG.

So before you go all "lolz just turnz it off" remember how Bethesda all of a sudden decided to remove good RPG elements in Oblivion, same can be said for the compass/arrow and such things.

I wouldn't mind if the dragons were like silt striders for dragonborn, and maybe we even see them transporting him from place to place. It would be better than just instantly teleporting and at least give us a sense of immersion. Would anyone really be surprised if there weren't a potential dragon shout for this anyway? I'm sure Bethesda has considered it.

I'm not saying the Morrowind system is bad and should of been removed but in the case their in they have to carter for more then the hardcoe gamers but your second point I never said that just turn it off I said their are alternatives in the case of oblivion and I realize Bethesda removed and added elements in the case of Oblivion also you don't have to qoute me as a [censored]

Edit: Also your main enemy from what we currently know are the dragons so it would be a bit odd for your enemy to allow you to ride them
