Dragons seem overpowered

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 10:32 pm

Todd Howard had a character with 999 health and the dragon managed to take it down by half. HALF! the average character wont get past that for a long time and we are expected to kill dragons? They can fly around too so you need to have a bow or a spell on you too. These seem like they will be very hard to kill. I kind of like it though, A true challenge few RPGs have

To be fair, no-one ever said Todd Howard was good at video games.

They are freaking mythilogical beasts that are legendary because of this fact. You are special in that you are strong enough to wear them down and kill them. I'm glad they are hard to kill, making the shouts more valuable.

PS: There IS always a difficulty adjuster.

Im sure they have balanced the game so the fights are not fustrating. But you should be beaten to a bloody pulp if you are not prepared.

I really doubt dragons will be OP after the first few times fighting them and learning how to glitch them out.

It will either come down to player skill or glitching them, both of which are pretty easy to master.

I'm looking forward to having my life actually at risk, rather than having nerfed-dragons.

I... uhm... wimpy easily defeated dragons seems to, oh, I don't know... go against the grain of a giant flying fire-breathing fanged monster. RAWR!

Part of learning to play the game is learning what skills dragons have and how to deal with them. Sometimes "run away!" is the proper way to deal with them.

so you want the "boss fights" to be easier? you have the choice to run away. if the dragon does that much damage ya better try not getting hit. plus you can wear fire resistance armor assuming its still in. and you can use dragon shouts instead of magic or bow

Frankly, I think they looked easy in the previews. The player got hit somewhat hard but it looked like the dragons didn't take much to get injured either.

Maybe dragon attacks take off a percentage of health rather than a set number of hp?
So they would be pretty tough at any level you fight them, however large your health pool is.

But who knows? Maybe we'll have to wait until the game is out to find out ourselves.

Quoted for truth haha!

Also I believe it was mentioned that your first dragon fight will be nearly impossible to beat by conventional means. Supposedly you'll have both companions and indirect means with which you can fight the great beast.

I could go for a good challenge in the game, and this looks like it delivers. Also, keep in mind that not every encounter has to be fought. However if you do fight, make sure to bring your potions!

Personally I would like the challenge. Not a impossible fight that I could never hope to win but a legit challenge.

Dragons are supposed to be difficult. Hell, a low level character should find it nearly impossible to to kill one.

They need to be hard enough that just stacking on levels won't let you cheeze past them without altering your strategy. A dragon is a dragon, no matter what level we reach. However, aside from being hard, they also need to be fair. Anytime you die to a dragon it should not be because the dragon is cheap, but because it is really hard and you messed up or underestimated it.

I wouldn't take dragons to be like say fighting a end game boss at the end of a Final Fantasy which will take dozens of potions. Still as a "boss" esque character challenge is to be expected. And this changes by build, race, class, playstyles, individual player skill, and the difficulty level.

Pure brute force while more taxing is always the faster way to end a fight. More cunning and thought out tactics will take longer aswell as stealth.

mhmm ill bring a companion as a distraction and when he gets killed run to him kneel on the ground and scream "WELSHYYYY!!!!!" and then someone related to him will probally come and kill me... and also get attacked by the dragon. so its an endless wave of body guards..... and thats how you beat a dragon

Ah... it's a dragon man. It better be difficult.

Also, the demo vid features a character who had God Todd-mode turned on. 999 health. C'mon, he didn't have to block or dodge and could have taken everything right in the FACE if he wanted to, but hey he was trying to show a few things off so there ya go :P

It is a dragon's nature to be overpowered. Otherwise we'd just call them Lizirds(lizard birds).

"WELSHYYYY!!!!!"

"All this time we thought Alduin was a powerful super-dragon, yet he was just a child..."

"He's not a child, he's 34!"
