Dragons in TES V?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:44 am

Browsed through the last 10 pages and couldn't find a topic like this. Do y ou want dragons in their beauty and splendor in TES V? I do, but there should only be a handful of them, or fewer. They are very rare creatures.

Not in Tamriel. But there are dragons in Akavir. Not that we'll be going to Akavir, because we won't. Seriously, people, don't count on it.

I'm not one of those people who think dragons should be some superfantasic awesome intelligent beings you can ride...but the lore does seem to uphold at least most of that. Also, since they are almost god-like, you won't really see them.

I know earlier ES games had dragonlings...I think including dragonlings, and having them be the more typical fairytale dragon...large but not huge winged lizards, neither evil or benevolent but certainly deadly, with the ability to fight and kill them. Should still be fairly rare.

I thought that the Tscaeci ( the snake people of Akavir) killed all of the dragons.

I generally say DONT add dragons in TES because people will just see them as "super kills"... dragons in TES are as said before nearly godlike and they're not the typical fantasy evil creatures (which is a overused clichee on it's own) so better leave them out of it

There are dragons in Tamriel, but they aren't available for transport commissions by stupid wannabe adventurers or cliche'd questlines.

They are immensely powerful and practically held in near-divine reverence. The Empire had/has access to one or two (the dragon from TES: Redguard), but they are only called upon in times of dire emergency or invasion. I don't want either one in the next TES game.

Also, the empire holds dragons to HUGE reverence, and are protected by the empire. Like what Stonefrog said, there are there, but don't expect to be riding them, let alone seeing them. So far, there's really been only 3 in game dragons (one is still a rumor). 1 was in Reguard and Cyrus killed it, 1 was in Battlespire and was killed by daedra, and the last one is Tosh Raka, who may either by one physically or metaphorically.

If there are dragons around, they are currently either in disguise, so mortals don't bother them, or hiding. Oh, and you may end up a criminal for killing a dragon, unless said dragon was destroying a town, but don't expect that either, since they are very intelligent, and very powerful, thus would know that doing such a thing would not be in its interest.

I prefer that there were no dragons present in the next TES. Like everyone else said, dragons are highly regarded beings, intelligent, and quite powerful. They're better off to be in the background via books, tales, etc. Besides, it'll save Bethesda the hassle of determining if they should be killable or not for the crowd who likes to kill everything and their grandmother.

I definitely think there should be one dragon in TES5 and it should be a boss which you have to kill for a quest.

I think there should be one in TESV that is the Main Quest quest giver, and therefore unkillable and disappears once the MQ is done.

Don't you guys get it? The dragons are really huge allies of the empire, HUGELY significant being in Imperial beliefs, and are near-divine! Killing one would almost be like a step down from killing the actual emperor! The reason why Cyrus was able to get away with it, was because he was a fugitive of the empire in the first place. No dragons. None.

Please re-read.

1) According to Imperial belief (and I believe Nordic as well; they couldn't look upon Talos without seeing a dragon), Dragons are holy creatures worthy of utmost reverence. They are not considered "evil."
2) According to http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/famed_artifacts.shtml, the Fang of Haynekhtnamet was pulled from a beast of the same name, of a dragon-esque species called the Wamasus. It took 20 northern men 7 straight days and nights to kill the creature. What makes you think your hero, no matter how powerful, will be able to take down the real thing one-on-one?

EDIT: Quote from http://www.imperial-library.info/dogate/es_weaseling.shtml, from section entitled "Why are there no Dragons in Morrowind?"
Some say the dragons moved on closer to Cyrodil, where they gained shelter and security from the Empire, along with dragons from other parts of Tamriel. Dragons are very sacred to the Empire, and as long as the Empire protects the dragons, the dragons MUST offer services to the Empire, such as aiding and protecting the Imperial forces in war (Redguard, the fight for Stros M'kai).

Just a little "in the know" for those who are curious about dragons. They DO exist, just not everywhere. Even in Cyrodil, where the majority of dragons may be, they are scarcely seen. Could it be they can shapeshift and use human form?

Indeed they are. Though it can be questionable that they might still be some left, just that maybe hiding them dragons somewhere that no one can annoy them.

I practically doubt it would ever come to that point. Also, evil its not the word that describe those dragon. More or less, a force to be respected, not some cliches evil dragon found in almost every other fantasy genre that is accounted as the "boss". If anything the player would be dead where they stand.

Indeed, Tamriel's Dragons are not Smaug wannabies. Anyone who wants to know about dragons should read http://www.imperial-library.info/dfbooks/b100_complete_edward.shtml. Unless I'm mistaken it mentional quite a bit about dragon lore.

I would like to see at least one or two, definitely. I'm sorry, but Oblivion was really, really boring in that aspect; none of your actual enemies were very imposing. Mehrunes Dagon wasn't even a *real* enemy. I mean, it was cool from a story perspective, but it just felt very lacking. Just imagine how much cooler those tons of caves and ruins would've been, if there was the possibility of stumbling upon a boss -- even a dragon! Or for that matter, what if it was one of the last remaining dragons, somehow related to the main story?

Oblivion just felt too "safe". Even with Deadra and Trolls, I never came across any enemies that I looked at and said "Oh snap!!!". And besides, how cool would it be to kill a dragon, then fashion some armor or weapons from its body?

Again, manything to said about thsi:

*Oblivion on Foes are not really one of the strong point of the game.
*REREAD ThatOneGuy's post. One on One with a dragon is a death sentence.
*As a poster said earlier, Oblivion is a fairy tale with sunshine and blood.
