Dragons - A thread to discuss all things about Skyrim's Drag

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:26 pm

i havent seen anyone ask but has there been any hints or detail that there might be a friendly dragon faction ? Dragons are awesome creatures and i do hope we get to have some Dragon allies and not kill every last one of them.

I have to say mate, some of those screen shots you've taken are exellent....some really show the size of the dragon well....Kudos
What would be epic,is if the dragon could pick you up with it's mouth, like the T-rex in jurassic park
Great thread :)

I'm glad you like them but I didn't take them. Someone else posted them on the forums in the trailer discussion thread(s). I wonder what a death by dragon would look like in game, I would love to have it pick you up in it's mouth, chew, and then swallow you whole like Jurassic Park's T-Rex.

Thanks for the reply to the 10 questions too, wish more would comment so the thread would not fall down and then we get tons of new threads asking questions about dragons when all the info is right here.

If anyone wants some animated .gifs of clips in the video I made some. Mainly the dragons but I don't have a premier account at gifsoup so i can't go over 15 seconds.

http://www.gifsoup.com/view4/2057631/skyrim-dragon-battle-o.gif
http://www.gifsoup.com/view6/2057661/skyrim-dragon-battle-2-o.gif

http://www.gifsoup.com/view2/2057736/skyrim-dragon-battle-4-o.gif

Thanks to worm82075 for his videos i used to make the clips...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmXku4Og_w4 Full trailer at half speed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSVMWzysCqo Wall scenes removed with dragon fight at end and most scenes at 1/4 speed.

I wanted to get one from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSVMWzysCqo&t=2m45s but only premium members can go over 15 second clips.

Yeah that is pretty cool. What game is that? A Japanese MMO? I've never seen that game before.

It's Monster Hunter Tri. It's a game for the Wii (surprisingly); a VERY good game for the Wii. Probably the best. You can use the classic controller to play, so don't worry about motion controls or anything. It's pretty similar to Phantasy Star Online, if you've ever played that. It's been released worldwide (well, at least in America and Japan. I'm not sure about anywhere else.). http://www.gamespot.com/wii/rpg/monsterhunter3/index.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0

OT: Yeah, I believe that there may be some retcons in lore with Skyrim's dragons. Only time will tell.

Well that explains why I've never heard or seen it before, I think the Wii is a joke. But that game actually looked okay for a Wii game. Though the MMO look is not my thing but for a Wii game it wasn't as bad as I would've thought, gameplay wise.

Anyone else care to comment on the 10 Questions?

I don't want to imply that Pete Hines lied to us but I don't believe that the dragon fight was actual ingame combat, it seemed too choreographed.

What about classifying the dragons? Wouldn't the one in the trailer technically be a wyvern since its wings are attached to its forearms.

I personally think that they spawned the dragon over and over again and put different parts of different fights to get the result but I fully believe that was all in game :mohawk:

Seeing the earlier depictions of the dragons in the whole series, I think that the dragons as a whole were actually resembling the wyverns more than anything. Except for Peryite (heck, does his appearance even been noted as draconic at all? I can't tell).

I don't think it was totally choreographed but rather they kept fighting a dragon at the same spot over and over and from these multiple battles they took all the best footage. Selecting only the clips that they wanted and made them look all like from one battle. It's also why it felt like the dragon died too easy, it was just for the sake of the trailer but I'm sure it'll take more then 3-4 sword slashes to kill a dragon. ;)

I'm confident the Dragon combat and animations will look that good in game and each battle will be different from the last.

I love the fight, it showed that the dragon was reacting to every hit which was a big problem with the oblivion game in my opinion. You had to spam the enemy because they would just keep hitting you, they only back stepped every other hit.

Yeah and i remember reading in one of those gameinformer articles that the combat in Skyrim would feel more back and forth, with you having to utilize things like shield bashes and intercept an enemies attack and knock them back. I'm glad to see theres some of this in dragon combat even. I hope though that the Dragons do knock you around a bit more but i understand for the sake of the trailer they wanted it to be cinematic and the battle to show what they wanted. I hope in the actual gameplay you will see the dragon knocking you back more and it taking a lot longer to defeat one.

Bump. So I haven't listened to the podcast yet has there been any new info I should add that i missed?

Todd confirmed different "types" of dragons.

Okay where was this in the podcast? I wanna go back and listen to it because from what I've seen all the dragons in the trailer look the same. Not size wise but like bodily features wise. Which is fine IMO but if there are suppose to be different type of dragons mentioned I wanna know if he meant different types of dragons looks wise, body wise OR different types of dragons attack wise, or with how they attack. Which we already knew some did fire, ice, slow time, etc.

After watching that trailer and seeing Bethesda's new, good animations, I'm confident that Bethesda has done what they set out to do in making a game that did dragons right.

I just wanted to stop by this thread and say that the I think the dragon designs are fantastic, and I'm not using that word lightly. Love the horns especially. Much approval from here :) Great job, great art direction here.

Do you guys think we might see non-hostile dragons in Skyrim? I think it would be nice to subvert expectations and maybe question your reasons for having to kill so many, plus some lore friendly info could be divulged from dragons themselves.

Well I know somebody else made a whole new thread on this topic rather then posting it in here like you did, thanks by the way for doing so...

I think we won't. Although it's always been a cool idea to have friendly dragons or dragon companions I just don't think it fits into the story that the dragons play in TES V: Skyrim. I know there is some past lore with dragons being on the side of the empire but I'm with Malckeor.
Yeah, I believe that there may be some retcons in lore with Skyrim's dragons. Only time will tell.

I think we'll see that these dragons were banished once before or defeated and drove back and now they return. They are enemies of mankind and probably more beast like then we may like to think. Still intelligent but very animalistic.

I just don't think we'll see any on our side besides that one dragonshout that allows you to call in and command one to fight for you.

That's just my take on it though.

I think i will be making 3 characters immediately so i can experience fighting the dragons as a warrior, archer and a wizard as soon as possible. Trying not to hype this game up too much in my head but every little bit of information they release just leads me to believe more and more that bethesda is making my perfect game. Gona be a good year ha

Has the dragon shout in the trailer been confirmed as "Fus Ro Da"? because I heard "Mos Dra Ka".

I think either Michael McConnohie from WoW or Christ Metzen from WoW would make good voices for the dragons. They do good voices in-game.

It makes the most sense for it to be "Fus Ro Dah" because that's known to us as a invisible push of staggering power that sends foes hurtling away from you staggered by the force of your yell. Spoken in the game, your hero will intone the three words for the full shout: “Fus, Ro, Dah!” Translated into English, “Fus” means force, “Ro” means balance, and “Dah” means push.

Also you can hear it a little clearer if you listen to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmXku4Og_w4&t=2m10s. Slowed down.
