Dragons - A thread to discuss all things about Skyrim's Drag

Especially if Beth ups the number of NPCs in cities.

That's exactly why, Xbox360 and PS3 both have only 512mb of RAM.

I think it is possible..techniques and tools are getting better.
They did open cities on the original xbox with morrowind.
Not 100% on this....but i'm sure i read that other creatures could attack towns and cities too,not just dragons.
Like i said,not 100% on that....guess we'll wait and see. :)

Trust in this; if it couldn't be done in oblivion; it probably wont be done in skyrim. :)

2005 360 release:
256mb's of ram

2011 360:
256mb's of ram

Yep.

*Dragon flying around, breathing fire onto the external of the city. It lands on the door and pauses. It slowly disappears until it is loaded into the city cell.*
That would be hilarious. Although I think Dragons attacking cities almost confirms 'open cities'.

you know what?

thats a real good sign that we will get open cities....

or maybe dragons attack villages, and only attack citys when you are inside the cell <_<

Remember the scene in the swamp in The Two Towers where Frodo, Sam and Gollum hide in the bush from the fell beast flying above? I want scenarios like that in Skyrim when I'm at a low level and I'm not powerful to take on a dragon.

So, yeah, I hope that they're free-roaming creatures.

I say it can be done....i think they did it in some places in fallout 3 and new vegas, most where loaded before you entered etc.
Also they only had 6 months with set/kit etc with oblivion, they wanted to add more stuff but could'nt.....i think rebuilding kvatch was one
I do understand your point, but it is'nt impossible.
And 360 has 512mb not 256mb

Bump. Try to help me keep this on the top two pages so we don't get duplicate threads asking questions like this one.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1161631-will-dragons-only-be-part-of-the-mainquest-or-will-they-actually-be-free-roaming-creatures/

Not that I don't want people to be able to ask questions but just ask them in here. or read through the main post. It basically explains everything.

I've been thinking should we do a FAQ in here? And then put it up on the main post so people just looking for quick question will see it or do you think the main post is easy enough to find what your looking for?

I would need somebody to help me think up the questions though...

Like the one above or... "Will there be Dragon Mounts?" or "Do Dragons talk?" idk see i need help with the questions if were going to do a FAQ.

loved reading every bit of it. especially your take on the Anuad, which i kinda had felt was a possibility because of how those two gods are revered in every Tamrielic religion.

however its just like you said, nothing in TES lore is concrete, and to be honest i prefer it to be vague. it helps you create an individual identity for your characters. "I'm not on good terms with the gods"
and thank you cipher..i have got my idea for my next character. an outcast priest who's ideology conflicted with the known doctrine, was given a facial brand as a mark of shame that i now wear as a badge of honor.
random i know lol.

I really hope they have an epic finishing move to slay a dragon Like if your behind it you can jump on its back and run up and stab it in the head or something like that.

Been away for a few days, busy on Two Worlds II Multiplayer actually, but I just saw the updates I missed this last week.

Seen a new concept art for dragons in combat.

Sorry for the double post but i just read something about Undead Dragon Priests?

From the french magazine article it seems that the Dragon Priest is a sort of guardian of the "dragon shouts walls" (not sure about that, it just pop up when the player approach a wall and he puts up an hell of a fight).

Can anyone confirm this? before i add it to the main post?

Possible let me know word for word what it says in a PM?

Also any more info about Dragons, Dragonshouts, etc that I missed from these over seas magazines?

Of course dragons should be varied. Not just fire breathing, four-legged behemoths. After putting as much effort into the language for the dragons, they should be varied in every other aspect. They're their own nomenclature, even more varied then the categories of undead, daedra, and monsters. I approve entirely.

They're are plenty different types of dragon types. From two-legged to those extremely long dragons. Of course, I want to fight dragons of different scale and type. It'd be boring to face the same generic type. Also, dragons should be of scale. Little lower level dragons to big massive almighty dragons.

And speaking of voice actors, James Earl Jones, Lance Henrikson, and Tim Curry all have amazing voices that would work well I would think if they'd be willing.

There may already be a thread on it, but here's another (considering there's a million on the spears topic). Speculate on possible dragon shouts, and try to invent creative ones that would be too bizarre/OP to be regular spells. Also, how often do you think we'll be able to use them? like Greater Powers, or if magicka permits. Or there could be a set limit (5X a day for example).

Known ones are: push enemy back, slow time, teleport, and summon your own dragon

*yawn*

I am tired, maybe tomorrow?

Nah... just use the search option and revive some dragon shout threads to discuss this. And of course there will be some sort of balancing and cool down to make the use of these abilities less frequent. It would be game breaking to be able to shout all the damn time and beat everyone in the game by just doing that.

I'm still trying to figure out how the dragon fights are going to work. We're dealing with giant, flying creatures that breathe fire, people. Are they going to conveniently fly to the ground so we can hack at them with a sword? Eh.

I hope they continually fly up and dive not just come from sky and land to fight. I would love to see them take off mid fight and force you to avoid some breath language attacks while they are hovering. If your melee only you'de just have to dodge them where an archer or mage could do damage to it from distance. I plan to go melee so it'll be interesting too see how much harder it is to take down a dragon. And who knows maybe the Dragonshout or Thu'um you learn could have a melee character knock them out of the sky with a blast of force that stuns them. That would be cool.

Do you want Dragons to have different voices?

would be cool, but i don't feel its a must have, if they have the extra resources for it then sure. if not, no big deal

Do you wish to have Dragon Mounts?

im kinda split on this, im not sure if it would actually be cool or just make no sense. i guess i wouldn't really care either way...

What type of attacks/powers do you wish dragons will have?

multiple, if all dragons do is breathe fire that would be kind of dull imo. i don't think they should have 12342135 different types of dragons, but at least a few to change things up and make them a little more interesting to fight each time.

How do you wish Dragon combat to be?

a variation, i would like a good challange and every now and then to look up and just go " oh #%#@, i'm dead" and maybe a few mediocre ones.

Do you think Dragons improve TES or just a gimmick/copy?

gimmicky!!!!! jk jk

i like that idea, would add a little more variation and unpredictability to fighting dragons. i think it would be pretty awesome to hit a flying dragon with one last arrow and watch them fall from the sky to their death(but that may just be me)

I thought I would mention a problem I have with the whole, "Dragons have been banished from the world for a thousand years" business.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYltef5VTyQ#t=3m15s shows that there was a dragon at the battle of Stros M'kai. That battle happened in 2E 864, 33 years before the end of the Second Era. The Oblivion Crisis occurred in 3E 433, and the beginning of Skyrim supposedly is 200 years after that. If we add all of these numbers together, the dragon Nafaalilargus was seen fighting alongside the Imperial army only 666 years ago.

I'm not too worried about this being retconned, as I can already think of several ways to explain it. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an official explanation for it though.
