Dragons with feathers!

Post » Tue Nov 03, 2009 6:54 am

So here I was thinking... Why have only Dragons with skin? What about huge bird-like Dragons? Disguised in the forest or something like that, they can hide themselves or use their feather color to look like bushes in a fall-forest or something similar.

So?

How about a dragon whose scales are like a chameleon's, i.e. changing colour to blend into it's surroundings??... Get your head out of your [censored]...

Lol nah jk jk, feathers sorta would fit, ya know cold = need to stay warm some how... but like MK-{OmegaX} said, I don't think they're natural dragons

I could accept some feathers on wings I think, maybe.

Other than that, no, I don't think I'd like to see feathers on dragons.

Edit: Grammar

I kinda took inspiration from Shadow of the Colossus with this idea...
If you've played it, think about the fliers in it.
If you haven't, well, then think more like fur or hair than actual feathers.

Can't believe I actually signed up just to throw this out there but Dinosaurs where bird related. Just keep with me on this... Feathers and Scales are actually the same basic structure its just a matter of how its formed. If you look at any birds you'll notice there legs are often just completely scaled, look at an Osteriage and well its basically a feathery dino with a beak. Idea of an actual lizard flying just...to heavy, bird bone structures more hollow making them lighter all around.

Course Dragons are magical beasts not really lizards or birds in a fantasy setting so that's all kinda irrelevant but still, there could be a variation on a dino that has some feathers on its wings that it uses to hide its self or something. Personally I think a smaller dragon looking kinda like a winged, feathered raptor (feel free to look that up for idea) would make for nice tree-ambush encounters.

Dragons with feathers are supposed to be softies, like the book on drawing them says anyways. These dragons are supposed to be fierce and intense, so the scales would make more sense. Feathers on a dragon kinda makes it feel more like fighting a giant fire-breathing peacock (hmm... that DOES sound cool, at least for novelty)

You are right about dragons are supposed to be fierce, But think about the variety of them. They should have a few types if Beth is really treating them like any other creature, so this is a cool idea for one! :D I know I, personally, would love to walk a fall-forest and get surprised by something jumping me that looks like a bush beforehand, would be epic.

It sounds really cool, but it's kinda unrealistic to think that they have time to go back and change their dragons now, considering the amount of animating they'd need to do to make the feathers move realistically etc.

Kind of like raptors, which recent evidence strongly suggests were also feathered.

Not bad actually, but I think it would have to be a rarer, exotic dragon compared to the scaled types we'll already see. Depends on the lore, I guess. There will already be different kinds, so for all we know, this could already be in the game somewhere.

Jiub drove the Cliff Racers away from Morrowind. Actually, he shoved them at Skyrim, that bastard!
On topic though, I don't know. I do like the idea of dragons having different looks but feathers? I don't know. No, that's not a 'no', I really don't know what I feel about it. :P Could be good, I guess, but it'd probably be my death. I'd like to hug it...

I certainly do hope so =X Would be cool to see some different species for dragons. That not all of them live up in the sky and fly around, but that there are some who actually hunt on the ground.

And I think it will be best if we just keep it to that. IMO at least.
