Dragonshouts!

Post » Wed Jan 05, 2011 1:28 am

Firstly, look at this http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/13/road-to-skyrim-the-todd-howard-interview.aspx

In the second video, Todd Howard explains how dragons do their firebreath. He says that they are speaking in draconic "fire" and that it creates fire out of their mouth. Great idea Beth

He also gives some examples the "breaths" that the dragons have. Fire, Ice/cold, slow time, and wind. Also, If I've heard correctly, there is a dragonshout that lets you teleport short distances(GI article).

You gain the ability to use dragonshouts from consuming the soul of a dead dragon. Presumably you gain the shout from the dragon that had that ability in life.

So, I believe that it is safe to assume that we will be fighting dragons with the ability to teleport, slow time, create wind, etc. Which should make for some interesting fights, assuming they do it right.

Yay no oblivion gate dull dragons! :celebration:

I dunno, Kinda reminds me of how magic worked in the Eragon series, though it wasn't draconic, and dragons did use it, but not for fire.

I have some concerns about ones like slow time and teleport, how the hell will dragons use those? especially slow time, cause won't it slow time for you also when he uses it?

Hmm there was also the summon dragon ally one in the GI article. if Levitate is in the game at all this is a good way to implement it.

you get your final dragon shout when you are close to killing alduin and you have to kick him with a power meter straight in the nards.
But the way they have it setup where you can also learn from people who speak is pretty cool

If a dragon slows time, it will seem to you like he/she is moving really fast, obviously.

There is also a shout that will summon a dragon to assist you in battle (source: GI article I think).
I hope there is a way to become a dragon, so that you can fly around and get a nice view of the landscape with the incredible draw distances. :) Maybe that is what you get from absorbing the soul of Alduin?

Will they work like greater or lesser powers, that would make sense, either once a day or with a magicka cost?

Thats the point, how the hell WOULD they use those. Thats what makes fights difficult and memorable, not boring and unimaginative.

you know, vampire... your signature really irritates me.

insulting console users cause they arent rich and spoiled enough to afford high-end PCs?

anyway... im curious if this limits the dragons we get to fight, then... they said dragons will be a regular threat that will come unexpectedly into battle, etc...

so, will only special dragons have those powers, or what?

again, something we wont know the truth about until the game comes out, most likely.

My signature is-if anything- insulting PC users by saying that everyone who uses a console is a 12 year old.
I'm trying to get people to remember that some people use a console because they want to, not because thats what their parents bought them.
Console wars are bad, everyone should be treated equally, because we are all people.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way though, have a cookie :cookie: it will make you feel better.

I heard somewhere that in order to get a dragons power you had to scream at the top of your lungs "There can be only ONE" whilst lopping their head off. After doing this lightning comes down from the sky and infuses the player with that dragons power. Oh wait...that's actually the first DLC Skyrim 2 - The Quickening :hubbahubba:
