like an idiot i don't know what i did with the dragonstone after the (bleak falls barrow) quest..........i must have dropped it somewhere......... i know i need it to advance the main story line.....do i have to start my game all over again?

Find the id number and use the console command to assign yourself it. In the console type help "name of item" and it will display the id# or you can search the web for a dump file.

You cannot remove quest items from your inventory, so don't worry about having dropped it. Have you talked to Farengar? Check the "Misc" section of your inventory and see if it is there. Perhaps you talked to Farengar, he took it, and you've already advanced in the main quest. Visit the Western Watchtower outside of Whiterun to find out if this is so. Also, be sure you looted the Draugr Overlord's body, for he had the Dragonstone.

Good luck. Don't start all over again, either - load your last save.
