Drain Skill.

Post » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:47 pm

Hi, I want to train my desruction skill up as I'm finding it a bit hard at the mo, as I'm only a novice in desruction. I think I need a Drain Skill, Destruction, that is cast on self. So I was thinking of using one I purchased and using the spell alter in frostcrag spire. The spells not showing up in the available spell effects as its higher than my skill level. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a novice level Drain Skill spell. If there are none available can someone suggest an alternative method, other than going out and roasting mud crabs.Thanks.

Drain skill is an apprentice level effect. Stick to a novice effect for creating your 'training spell'. I find that a very weak drain or damage fatigue (both novice effects) for 1 second on self works well. You can make such a spell as a novice and it doesn't hurt you, as fatigue will regenerate itself.

Here is a link that shows you the novice destruction effects and where to get them: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Spells#Destruction

Thanks for that Acadian, no wonder it didn't show up in effects. I didn't realise it was only an apprentice level spell. And I hadn't even considered Damage Fatigue, I've forgotten a lot about this game. Been off too long in F3. Thanks again.

I'd agree on the weak Drain as a training spell, but isn't the Damage version going to lower your max until you heal at the chapel? (or chug a restore potion).

Once you get to Apprentice level, I find a Weakness spell on self to be the preferred trainer, as it needs no undoing at all. They're also very useful spells to use in enchanting weapons, so buying those does double duty. The Drain skill ones are useful for getting a Trainer's price down, but the low-cost practice spells can be used anywhere you go, and don't run into the 5-level cap.

No, a damage fatigue effect will damage your current fatigue, not your maximum, and you will regen it back at about 10 per second. I just tested by creating a spell as follows: damage fatigue 3 on self x 1 second. Buffy spammed it continuously with no ill effects. Her fatigue was regenerating faster than she was damaging it. A similar spell using drain fatigue would work just as well and is actually the one Bufy grew up with for training her destruction.

It's just like if you got hit by a damage magicka effect; it drops your current magicka (not your maximum total) and you regen it back. Damage health works the same way, but of course you don't automatically regenerate it back.

It is not like having a primary attribute (like speed or agility) damaged - that is permanent until repaired as you pointed out. :)
