Draw Distance in Render Window

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:52 pm

Hey guys,

I used to be somewhat of a modder in the Morrowind days and had my hand in quite a few mods back in the day. I have decided to return to the modding community for Skyrim but thought i'd play around with the Oblivion CS since I never modded Oblivion.

One thing I have been picking my brain about,

In the render window, it draws all the objects into view for a certain area, then you see nothing. Is there a way to increase this draw distance? I would like to be able to see as much of the world space I have made as possible without draw distance cutting it off right at the back of the building im working on placing, or a town that happens to be in the middle of two co-ords and constantly chopping half of whenever I move over.

I can work like this, it just slows me down and limits my artistic vision :P

In Documents\UserName\MyDocuments\My Games\Oblivion is a ConstructionSet.ini. In that ini is a line

uGridsToLoad=5

Increase the value of that setting to increase the amount of cells you can see. I think it needs to be an uneven number. I have set mine to 9. Keep in mind that the CS needs to load much more data if you increase the setting (in my case instead of 5x5=25 cells it loads 9x9=81 cells), if you have a cluttered worldspace loading times will increase and if you go too high the CS may crash (depends on your system, but anything higher than 15 is not recommended imo).

Hey mate thanks a lot.

Yeah I understand that it will become more taxing on my system once I bump it up, but it is mainly just for the initial plotting of my world space, and dropping in the foundations of it all. Not much detail as of yet so I would like to be able to get a clear view of as many cells as my system can handle. Then when it comes down to putting in the finer details and working on a smaller area I can always just drop the cell load count :)

Once again, thanks for the helpful response!
