Draw Distance [ w/ PICTURES ]

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:38 pm

This is a game breaker for me. Looks ugly as hell and breaks the immersion, and in multiplayer it looks like I can't just hide behind something because for someone else, I might be completely visible out in the open.

Is there some command I can use to increase the draw distance? Any help at all is appreciated...

Examples:

Blue double doors:

Wall texture:

Pilled up boxes:

Tablet at the end of the platform:

Computer boxes, chairs:

It's retarded how we went from Crysis' colossal draw distance, into this 'in your face' popping up... **** consoles.

I'm sorry, but the Crysis 2 apologists simply cannot tell the difference between the two sets.

It's okay because those are missing half their brains, probably their visual processing center is part of that.

People would have to be pretty damn stupid to tell anyone there's no diffrence in that. Compared to Crysis, it's like a dog next to an elephant.

Complete list of variables there, I found at least 10 that I think have to do with draw distance, I don't have a problem with it, so the people who do should test it out.

What? I was happy the draw distance was gimped. The whole reason why Crysis 1 ran so bad was its unreasonably humongous draw distance.

Just looking across the bay would put 2 million polygons on your GPU to render. No one is going to notice the small bushes and barrels half a mile away across the bay that take up like 2 pixels on your screen, but everything was rendered. It was such a waste. They could have focused on making those terribly textured rocks and shore look better...but they wasted all that performance on letting you see some speck of an object a mile away. With proper POM implementation they could have had the beach look almost like it was completely tesselated like in one of the mods, but NOO infinite draw distance just HAD to be a requirement.

Close up details matter a lot more than something across the bay that you wont notice until you physically cross the bay. I never figured out their logic behind that. It was simply a waste. I noticed the ugly N64 quality rocks a lot more than I did trees a mile away.

Multiplayer is all about frame rate. To play well, you need 50+ FPS optimally. Singleplayer can be played just fine at 30 FPS, but multiplayer is all about shooting first and quick movement. So to keep the play experience optimal they tone down the graphics.

I lol'd, literally. Make a game have some of the worst draw distances around because people have low end computers?

It was a WASTE. Why render something that you can't even see on your screen? Use occluders FFS, but nope. Everything, whether it was something you could see or not was rendered. Did you read the rest of the post? For the SAME performance they could have focused on other things.

thats your opinion. considering how good this game runs on most systems
we dont need the graphics toned down.
Just like single player if it doesn't run well go adjust your video settings..
I like to have all the eye candy..even in MP

this is the same thing Cod does with tis MP and its still running on ID engine that goes waaay to i think 1999

I should be able to see it on my screen though. If people have computers that cant handle it they can lower their settings. If they still cant handle it they should upgrade from 5 year old hardware.

Having doors disappear from 20 meters is just terrible.

Funny that the low draw distance bothers him but the **** up black ground textures don't.

I wasn't talking about Crysis 2. Crysis 2 draw distance is too small, instead of too big. I was just talking about Crysis 1...which no graphics card could handle at max settings until 2010.

Warhead had horrible draw distance pop-in so don't start O.P.

but i would appreciate a slider or something to adjust it.

The game was made with the engine that allows for all 3 versions to be produced at once identical to each other.

Now think of which platform would need such low draw distance.. maybe due to having to stream things into memory all the time since it barely has any?

Yeah the Xbox. That's why.

I noticed in SP with some small things... cans on the ground and the like mostly...

BUT at the same time, I never saw anything that really matters (like the door) do that... if I had, I would have been pissed. THAT was the kind of thing that got me to upgrade from my first graphic card on this machine for Crysis 1... entire rock formations that would pop in like that.

I know that but the problem is that in MP the settings are locked into their lowest value, and I haven't been able to find a workaround to this yet. In-game console doesn't work, autoexec doesn't work either, whatever settings I place just get reset.

Then why is it I actually get worse performance in MP then I do in SP? If it's supposed to be inferior then why the hell do I have a difference in FPS? I'm talking SP is about 40-60 FPS while MP is 29-40 max. **** weird if you ask me.

That's on a GTX460 OC'd.

Do a search for "distance" in there, the relevant variables appear to have that in the name. Be careful though, some of them have things to do with the AI, those are prefaced with ai_... The relevant ones I think are prefaced with e_... most likely for "engine".
