Dreams of the Fire

As they began their journey Charon looked to Belan.

There is a chance that they will know she is there, but i doubt they will know where. She is a shadow like myself, and will not stay in one place very long. She will be using the beggars too, to know when I arrive. The best thing to do is to get a room and rest once we arrive, she will find us before we ever find her.

Yes, I had thought of this.

I think our best bet would be to contact Quirinus Latartus. I have heard he is in Windhelm right now.

If anyone can help us understand what is happening it is him.

Who is this Quirinus? Is he an assassin too?
*I carefully manoeuvred round a bumpy part of the path. Only five minutes or so and we would be in Windhelm*

In a way, I guess he is an assassin. He has a different style than Charon. He is a Crusader, and leads the Knights of the Nine. Yes, the Nine. He never accepted Talos' removal from the pantheon of the Empire.

He is technically a criminal, but he kills all those he feels are 'evil' according to his code. Best not to get on his bad side, or say that you want to be an assassin.

Sounds like the kind of guy I'd rather not cross. He also sounds a little...unstable. Are you sure it's safe to work with him?

Don't worry, he is mildly stable, and I am a very old friend of his. We worked together in the past. He saved my life, and I saved his.

It is hard to explain, and it would just confuse you anyway. Not many people know about the past these days.

Besides, those were very dark days for me, I don't like to talk about them.

Oh, listen to me banter.

Don't worry about Quirinus, nothing will go wrong, Charon has had dealings with him in the past, and only got a little hurt.

If you say so Belan. *I shift a little to get into a more comfortable position* It looks like we're here, guys. Windhelm.
Who should describe? I could do it, but I can't be on until tomorrow, so...

I posted a wiki link to Windhelm on the discussion thread, to give a better idea of it and to know what to expect.

Massive walls of ancient stone reached high to the sky, the top of a palace could just be made out over the walls. The city was heavily inspired with Nordic architecture. A regiment of Imperial soldiers marched out of the main gates down another road which led east towards Morrowind.

Amiel reached the top of the hill first.

By the Nine...

The others reached the top of the hill and gasped in disbelief. Three large flying reptiles were attacking the city. The first several rows of houses were blazing, and a blast of fire from one of the attackers set two more houses ablaze. Citizens bravely tried to extinguish the flames while the city guard launched volley after hopeless volley to bounce of the scaly hides of their targets

Dragons...

What? Dragons don't exist!

They do now.

Charon, what do you think we should do?

I'm an ASSASSIN!!! I strike from the dark to kill humanoid targets, not DRAGONS!

We need to split up. Trust me. I haven't told you my story yet, but know that I am the Grandmaster of the disgraced Knights of the Imperial Dragon. If we work together, we can take them down.

***************************************************

Yoohoo! Mr. Dragon! Bet you can't catch me!

The first dragon swooped down, bearing down on her straight as an arrow.

Time to run.

Faire dashed down the field in front of the city, weaving back and forth, dodging the plumes of fire that rained down from her pursuer. When she passed through the gates, she pushed her way through throngs of people battling the blaze around her. Ducking into one of the walls many towers, she took a deep breath and prepared for a continued chase.

*****************************************************

Amiel drew his nocked his bow, raising it for a shot. Waiting for one of the two dragons to stop moving, he let his arrow fly. It whizzed through the air, and embedded itself deep in the dragon's throat. It roared out in pain and anger, turning towards Amiel.

Amiel drew Chrysamere.

Come and get it.

*****************************************************

Belan stumbled through the streets. With the panic in the air, the streets were constantly changing as people scurried around. He found a staircase and cimbed his way onto the battlement of the city. He could hear a dragon below, trying to reach something in a tower. Belan drew his sword and lept.

******************************************************

Charon flew through the air. He didn't like this plan, but it was the only thing that played to his strengths. He'd climbed to the top of one of the battlement's towers, and waited. Soon enough, one of the dragons had maneuvered its way underneath him. He'd jumped from the battlement ad was now hurtling through the air at the dragon's back. He drew his blade and hoped the beast didn't move.

Has Faire survive her chase? Will Amiel defeat the dragon? Will Belan save Faire? Will Charon land on the dragon? Will Windhelm survive? Is Veronica alright? Will this be canon? Will Uriel stop talking in a Narrator voice? All this and more on the next edition of the epic new RP "Dreams of Fire"!

lol wow some one must be board.... yours is more exciting, i guess just use my description for reference.

Charon landed on the back of the beast, embedding Gold Brand in its back. It roared in pain and anger and began to spin trying to shake Charon off. Gold Brand must have struck bone, it did not give out, giving him a grip to hold on to. It finally evened out and he began to climb up towards its head.

It slammed into a tower, nearly throwing him off and sending stone chips flying, Charon had a death grip on a spike which allowed him to stay on. He continued climbing up it using its spikes, finally making it to its head. He drew his wakazashi and repeatedly stabbed it into its eye and holding on for dear life as it went out of control in mid air.

As it neared the ground he leaped off rolling across the hard ground and finally coming to a stop in a small cloud of dust. He looked up to see the dragon crash into the ground a short distance away kicking up dirt and stone. They had arrived to a small garden near the palace. He quickly pulled Gold Brand and sheathed it. To his amazement the dragon started to burn away leaving the skeletal remains. He turned and ran to where Faire would be. The girl was ill experienced and was in grave danger.... He had promised to buy her armor and intended to keep that promise.

Meanwhile, in the tower...
*I paused to take a breather and found myself all alone. The place outside the tower window was burning, with only one path forward that even the fighters of the fire had took.*
*But, if not for the fire, why had they run?*
*I turned to the door, and saw an amethyst reptilian eye peering through a hole in the wall. A bellowing roar seemed to shake the ground I stood on as I ran as fast as I could out of the door, towards the free path...*

Only to find the dragon landed on the path, looking straight at Faire. It didn't attack yet, but merely stared.
*Confused thoughts rushed through my head. Had I heard that cry before somewhere? Had I seen that strange stare somewhere before?*
What are you staring at? *The dragon snorted, sending a puff of smoke out of its snout. A whisper sounded in my ear.*

The end is near, Fire Bringer.
The dragon took no more time, and attacked. It swiped with one of its claws and Faire attempted to jump over it, but the dragon caught her in its grip. It raised Faire to its head, opening its maw and breathing smoke on her.
*I was scared as the dragon caught me. I wriggled and writhed, but I could not get free. I looked into its eyes and felt fear.*
*Or perhaps it was pity*.
Hey, scaly face! Put me down right now! *I managed to get my right arm free and punched the dragon in the snout. It blinked in surprise and dropped me on the ground*
*I drew my two swords and looked at the dragon. It was preparing its fire breath, but was still on the ground*. OK, weak points on a dragon. Um...the eye maybe? The mouth? Better decide quickly...*

The dragon let out a stream of fire, and Faire only narrowly dodged it. It roared in frustration and started to extend its wings.

Oh no, I don't think so. *Charon jumped from behind the dragon and sliced through the right wing with Goldbrand, cauterising the wound with the weapon's fire. The dragon screamed and flipped over, sending Charon flying off its back.*
*I watched as Charon landed just in front of me, looking straight at the dragon. It was trying to get back up.*
Better stay back, Faire. Even with one wing, this creature is still very dangerous.
Charon charged forward wielding Goldbrand, trying to catch the dragon as it was regaining balance. The dragon recovered just in time, however, and pushed him back with a wall of flame.
*I decided to act. With no element of surprise, Charon was like a fish out of water in this fight. I ran up to him as he tried to find a way to get past the flame wall. The dragon was still on the other side of it, waiting.* Charon?

I told you to get back, kid.
Sorry Charon. *I took him my surprise and shoulder barged him, catching Goldbrand in my right hand. It hissed in protest at the abrupt change in ownership.*
*Charon tried to stop me, but he was tired from the fight so far and I was faster. I ran towards the wall of fire, sweeping Goldbrand through a section of the wall. Blue fire surged from the sword and the wall evaporated. The dragon stood in front of me, it's torn wing folded back. It breathed an inferno on me, but I lifted Goldbrand up and threw it straight, just like when I used to do javelin throwing at the town. The sword flew straight, cutting a path through the fire with a blue flame of its own, finally embedding itself in the dragon's mouth. It screamed as it was enveloped by Goldbrand's flame, thrashing about and slashing my left arm with its talon. The dragon began to...sort of melt, eventually leaving only a pile of ash and Goldbrand where the creature had once been.*

I guess you've got luck on your side, kid. Now hold still while I clean up your hand and arm.
My hand? *I looked at my right hand. It had a nasty burn going across the middle of it.* Oh.

Dont forget that Charon is a good fighter as well and does not have to rely on stealth alone. He is a jack of all trades, master only in the arts of stealth.

Charon knelt down besid Faire, Hold you arm out. When she did he let is hands glide up and down the burnt area's of her arm, a soft glow coming from them.

How did you know that Gold Brand would cancel the flame kid?

......Come to think of it, I didnt. I just did it.

Continuing his task Charon looked up at her. So you acted out of instinct or out of ignorance?

..... Yes

I see. Well thats about all I can do for you. Faire looked down to see the burns gone but a little redness remained on her skin. When I get you that armor you'll be a little better prepared for such things. Charon got up and started to walk back down the tower.

Charon?

He stopped and turned back to her. Yeah kid?

She ran up and hugged him and looked up at him.

Thank you for being there for me.

He laughed and with his hand messed her hair.

It's what I do, I'm there for those who need me. Now lets get going, the others will surely need help.

Yeah, sorry for portraying him a little out of character, but I get the feeling that each one of our characters needs to defeat a dragon. In my battle plan for Faire I needed Goldbrand, so I introduced Charon. Problem is, Charon could probably just kill Faire's dragon as he had the previous one, so I just thought that straight up dragon combat isn't really Charon's forte so he can't plan as well, while Faire is foolhardy enough to just charge in and hope for the best. Sorry if I messed up a little there.

nah, dont worry about it, just seemed like he was being portrayed as a stealth only character, but when put like that, it played out very well. A dragon would put Charon at a pause to try and figure out a weakness, and a fire wall would definitely pause him for a moment. Well played Soul :goodjob:

The dragon flew around Amiel. It blasted fire down on him, fruitlessly attempting to wipe him from existence. Every blast was cut in half with a single slice from Chrysamere, and the flames that got through were absorbed by his armor. The dragon landed in front of Amiel. Its head stretched forward and roared in his face. Amiel stood his ground and spat in its mouth.

You don't scare me. I have witnessed horrors far worse than you.

The dragon recoiled in rage.

I am not here to kill you. We knew you would split up. We have the blind one. Now, we only need YOU!!! FUS DOH RAH!!!

A force emanated from the dragon, sending Amiel flying. Chrysamere spun from Amiel's hand and embedded itself in the ground blade first. Amiel flew through the air until he felt a claw close around him. Windhelm shrank away as the dragon flew. Another dragon flew alongside with Belan unconscious in its claws. Amiel didn't even struggle, for he knew that a fall from this high would only get him killed.

Damn.

*********************************************************

A shadowy figure stood facing a young man in a field of grass.

Well done, my son.

All for the you, my lord.

You are manipulating the girl admirably. Getting her to foolishly risk her life in order to keep Charon from helping Belan or Amiel was a stroke of genius. That charm is proving most advantageous.

I do it to serve the Vi.

Tiresome, isn't it, how Azura couldn't help but make another reincarnation of Lord Nerevar. And the nerve of Stahlsong to save his life. But no matter now. That Alliance you forged with Alduin has borne fruit. With that Amiel locked up where he cannot cause trouble, we will be unstoppable. Soon, we will use the blind one to bring back Sotha Sil, and if you can get the girl to believe her friends are In Labyrinthine, then we will have a means to resurecting Queen Almalexia. Then, we shall be Almsivi once more. And as I promised, with our powers restored, we shall overthrow this cursed empire and restore one that honors the Gods, all of them. Go my Knight of the Twelve. Go Sir Quirinus

Charon rounded a corner and stopped, Faire stopped beside him, they both cast the gaze to the sky to see two dragons flying away with Amiel and Belan in tow.

Faire pointed at them, Look Charon, their being taken away! Shoot them down!

Charon shook his head, No bow has that reach, their over on the other side of the palace and are flying faster than a horse in full gallop. We wouldnt be able to follow them either.

Then what are we going to do?

Wait.

Wait!? Are you mad!? They're going to kill them!

If that were the case they would be dead by now. They obviously are wanted alive, until oportunity presents itself and we discover where they are and what is going on we will wait and look into any leads we have.

So why stay here?

Like I said, I have to find Veronica.

Who the hell is this Veronica and why is she so damned important?

Just then a dark armored fist came around and grabbed Faire by the collar and lifter her clean off the ground, a small scream of shock escaped her mouth from the sudden assault. I AM VERONICA! And I'd appreciate it if you talked to Charon with a little more respect.

Faire was being held high in the air by a woman of average height and athletic build wearing medium darkened steel armor. A short sword rested at her side and massive single edged two handed sword lay across her back. It was surely too heavy for her to lift. She had shoulder length honey blond hair and deep blue eyes.

The kid meant no disrespect Veronica.

Veronica lowered Faire to the ground, Still it is my duty to protect the leader of the Sanguine Knights.

The Sanguine Knights?

Charon looked to the sky being darkened by storm clouds then back to them. We should get a room for the night, this is going to be a mean blizzard.

The party all grouped around a table in the tavern.

Friends, I am worried. I looked all across Winterhold today, and I couldn't find Quirinus anywhere. Even my contacts hadn't seen him in a week.

This is serious.

Milord, milord! I have news about Quirinus. He was spotted at the city gate an hour ago. He has all his knights with him.

Thank you, you are a credit to your family.

Milord?

Why, this man is Belan Helseth, the heir to the throne of the late Hlaalu Helseth and our savior!

Banden, what did I tell you...

Helseth, no, his last name is Indarys!

Okay, it looks like the guar is out of the bag of holding.

I am not Mr. Indarys, he was my hidden identity I took after I was exiled from the royal court. My real name is Belan Helseth, Prince of Morrowind. That Argonian that you attacked Amiel, he was hunting me because I am the last man in line to the throne.

Um...didn't Belan get kidnapped along with Amiel by the dragons?
Canon clash! :shocking:

Edit: I guess I'll write the inn scene then.

The Sanguine Knights?

Charon looked to the sky being darkened by storm clouds then back to them. We should get a room for the night, this is going to be a mean blizzard.

*The room we'd rented was surprisingly large. We'd come into the inn, finding it to be very sparsely populated...I guess everyone had to run from the dragon attack. The innkeeper was a jolly looking plump Nord with a mop of black hair. He greeted us kindly enough, and even offered food with the room if we all bought one. Charon negotiated a little with Veronica looking over at the innkeeper ominously.*
10 gold for each person. That's final.
You must be joking, good sir! I am offering food and drink with your rooms, they are worth at least 15 gold each.
Mmhm. Right then Veronica, we'll just go to the inn across. This is just a waste of time. *Charon turned around, beginning to slowly walk out*.
*The innkeeper looked frantic for a second*. Wait! Look, please don't go over to Veren's. I get enough business leached from him already without all these dragon attacks. You can have the rooms, 10 gold.
*Charon swerved around, concealing a smile as he handed the innkeeper the coins*. Thank the Eight you came to your senses, friend. Let's go where we won't be disturbed, Veronica, Faire.

*And then we entered the room we'd rented which had three single beds. Charon and Veronica inspected their mattresses for something and I did the same, but I wasn't sure what they were looking for.*
Are you done daydreaming yet, kid?
*I whipped my head from looking out the window to stare at Veronica. She was really starting to get on my nerves.* No, I thought I'd waste a little more time and look at the blizzard some more.
Oh, shush, Faire. We need to discuss what we're going to do while we wait for word of Belan and Amiel.
*Veronica cocked her head to the left slightly, thinking*. Wasn't your original plan to find that Quirinus, Charon?
True. Quirinus might also have some leads on Belan and Amiel, so it would be a good idea to search for him. Still, with the city in such chaos...it could be a little difficult to find him. Thoughts, kid?

*I needed to say something meaningful or Veronica would ridicule me for it*. Even in the chaos of war, even war against dragons, there are still looters and such left behind in a city before it is rebuilt, right?
Hmph. What's that got to do with anything, kid?
*I stared deep into her*. Looters mean thieves, and thieves mean the Thieves Guild. The people in the tales we used to have in my town would use the Thieves Guild for information. Could that work?
*Before Veronica could retort, Charon interrupted her*. You make a good point, kid. We were originally going to ask the beggars, but most will have fled due to the dragon attack. The Thieves Guild as a whole is most probably still present thought. If we can find them, we can find our information. Nice work, Faire.

*I gave a small smile at the praise. Veronica shook her head slightly in disapproval*.
If it is your wish to do this, then I will follow you Charon. However, I request that Faire stays here. She is not suited for a mission such as this.
You may think that, Veronica, but Faire has proven herself resourceful and quick to learn in what I've seen of her. Her innocent look might also give us an advantage for extracting information.
*Veronica nodded slightly, showing no emotion*. Very well, Charon. Request withdrawn.
Come on, best to get some sleep. We'll need as much as we can get for tomorrow.

*A little later, when I was preparing for sleep, Veronica came over to my bed. She had a strange expression on her face*.
Look, k- uh, Faire. I feel like we got off on the wrong foot. I apologise for almost strangling you and underestimating your abilities. I will be interested to see you in the field.
*I looked at Veronica, trying to detect her mood. She seemed to be telling the truth, and she seemed to be feeling a little awkward. She didn't seem like the kind of person who said sorry much*. It's OK, Veronica, I understand. I'm sorry too for kinda thinking you were a bit of a jealous idiot. I see now that you were just protecting Charon. It's all good! *I gave her a wide smile*.
*Veronica gave a small smile back*. I'm glad we sorted this out, Faire. If you ever want some lessons in using those blades of yours and Charon is busy, let me know. *She extended her hand*.
*I took her hand and shook it slowly, watching as she went back to her bed*.
*Maybe Veronica wasn't quite as bad as I thought*.

Amiel opened his eyes. He'd slipped into unconsciousness during a particularly deep dive. He suspected that that had been on purpose. He looked around. He was in a small cell, completely white walled and a perfect cube, just large enough for him to stand in and long enough for him to lie down in. The walls were perfectly smooth. Only a small outline showed the door.

Chrysamere, come to me. Return to your master in his hour need.

Particles glowed in the air, condensing into a single form in his hand. He swung Chrysamere experimentally, then sheathed it in the sheath that had appeared on his back. He closed his eyes, sat cross-legged, and waited.

*************************************************

He did not have to wait long. Soon he heard a key turn and the door opened. A dunmer walked in with a tray.

Ea-

The dunmer's head rolled to the ground. Grabbing the fallen body's shirt, he cleaned his blade and resheathed his sword. Amiel reached down and plucked the keys from the guards belt and strode out of the room. As he rounded a corner, five more Dunmer armed to the teeth confronted him. Amiel readied himself, drew his blade, and charged. He was a blur, darting through their attacks, his sword parrying then slicing his foes. Soon, they all lay on the ground dead, except one. Amiel leaned down and brought his sword to the elf's face.

Where am I?

I won't tell you anything, N'w-AHHHHHHHH!

Amiel removed his sword from the elf's arm. He calmly repeated his question.

The Reach! The Reach!

Thank you.

He knocked the dunmer out with a smack from his pommel. Amiel got up and walked down the hall. Hearing a platoon of guards charging down a nearby hall, he ducked into a room on his right. Inside, his armor was on the right. He slipped into it and looked ahead. A large door stood in front of him, chained shut. Using the keys, he unlocked a massive lock and the chains fell to the ground. Amiel heaved the door open. Inside, was a sight he could never have imagined. A dragon was chained to the wall, layers and layers of chain held him fast. At his entrance, the dragon's eyes opened.

Long have I awaited this moment. I am the last of the true dragons, those uncorrupted by Alduin, and you are the one destined to kill me.

Belan slowly opened his eyes, and saw a man in heavy armor in front of him.

Hello Belan, I'm glad to see you again.

Quirinus, what are you doing here?

Belan, I want you to meet an old friend of your's.

Greetings Belan Helseth, Moon and Star. It truly has been far too long. Now, we have much to discuss.

Kill you?

Yes. When a pure and uncorrupted dragon is killed, a baby born from his ashes and given his soul. You must be the one to do this.

Why?

Because no one is destined to kill me, so I will never die. But you have no destiny created for you; you are unique in that you make your own. The elder scrolls demand that I am killed so that a Dragonborn is born who will face the world-eater, and only yo can do this. Do it.

Are you sure?

Yes, do it and my final act will open a way out for you and the child. When I die, do not linger, your friend is not here. Only you were taken here.

Very well, I shall do it.

Amiel took Chrysamere, readied and stabbed the dragon in the heart. The dragon made not a sound, and with his final breath, muttered some words in the dragon tongue. A wave of energy emanated from the dying dragon, blowing a hole to the outside. The dragon's body burst into flames, and when the final cinder died, Amiel heard the crying of a newborn. He reached into the ashes and plucked a young, Nord boy and wrapped him in his cloak. The air shimmered, and Talos appeared in front of Amiel.

You will take the boy to the border between Cyrodiil and Skyrim, to an old Akaviri base known as Pale Pass. There, you will give him to my servants there. You will make the journey alone, and you must show no one the boy. If you can make it there alive, my and the other divines will support you against our new enemies. Quirinus, the Divine Crusader has turned against us, and we must have a new champion to replace him. I intend you to be that champion.

I must warn my friends, for they are searching for Quirinus as we speak.

No, the boy is a far greater in importance.

Very well.

Go.

Amiel grabbed some cloaks from a nearby cupboard, bundled up, and held the child close to his body to keep it warm. Chrysamere sheathed, he walked out into a blinding blizzard and began his trek.

Faire awoke the next morning to see Charon and Veronica at the table already dressed and eating breakfast. They were discussing how to contact the thieves guild. Charon looked over and noticed she was awake.

Good morning, hungry?

Starving is more like it.

Well we have eggs, bacon, sweet rolls, and some fruit.

At this point it could be a boiled shoe and I wouldn't care.

She got up and walked over to the table and sat down at a empty chair.

Did you sleep well?

She looked at Veronica momentarily thrown off by the kind question but then remembered the night before.

Yes... well not really. I kept waking up from nightmares.

What were they?

.... I dont remember, I would just wake up in terror, but have no memory of what.

It shows, you look restless.

This isnt the first time, its been ongoing for weeks. I probably only get 2 or 3 good hours of sleep at night now.

They were silent at the table for a short moment. Faire looked up and saw a crate beside the door.

Whats that?

That? Oh, thats a gift for you.

For me? What's the occasion?

None, I just keep my promises. Charon gave her a small wink.

She looked at Veronica who gave her a small smile.

She jumped up and ran over to the crate and threw open the lid and gasped when she saw an expensive set of....

what ever armor she would wear Soul, nothing rare or super expinsive like elven or orcish. Charon has money, but is fairly sensible with it.
