Even after his demise, all items will remain tagged as stolen.

Perhaps you'd like the Alchemist's Shack, off the road between Riverwood and Ivarstead.
The end table next to the bed in known safe.
It has a bed, alchemy table, garden, off the beaten path...

All my characters stay at the Alchemist's Shack until I can afford Honeyside.
