Drugs and Drug Effects in Skyrim

Post » Sun Aug 29, 2010 6:37 am

Yeah I dont really see recreational drug use being a huge thing in Skyrim, and I honestly couldnt care less. I dont use drugs or anything in my gameplay, and while I think that alcohol should play a part during a fantasy game, I'm generally not a fan of real hardcoe drugs in fantasy games I play. And I also agree with the previous poster, more poison :P

Really I just want a drunk effect, but something for skooma would be neat too. You lose some of the immersion when a bottle of ale is just some stat tweaking and nothing else.

And I mean c'mon, it's the viking one. It's a perfect time to finally add a drunk effect to alcohol.

Although I don't share the same drug enthusiasm I do think a lot of missions could be added and skooma being more of a steroid is a little in realistic.

My cousin told me about a quest where they gave him a "potion" and was sent to a village.

He founds goblins(Scamps?) everywhere walking idly and began killing them all (because they were evil right?).

He later finds out he took a hallucinogen (His character ingame), he got tricked and massacred a bunch of innocent NPCs :D

Yes I want drugs/potions in skyrim.

Having visual effects for drugs would be very interesting an experience in the game, so I'll give it a yes.
Though what about a drug like Phencyclidine (PCP)? Not under that same name obviously. But I think
it would be an interesting incorporation. Being able to just go crazy on anything you see & taking no
damage for the duration of the effect, until it wears off & it turns out you're nearly dead.

I want to be able to take moon sugar or skooma and see crazy stuff, similar to things you'd see with the wild wasteland perk in fallout. But only be able to see the things for as long as the drug was in effect.

Hallucinations would be awesome.Especially if there were scripted ones that would lead you to hidden dungeons and quests.

Im kind of dissapointed with the recent posts on this forum. It seems to me that many people want to turn TES into something it isnt. On the drug topic, I believe there should be some addictive substance because basically any world would have such thing, but there shouldnt be any hilarity to it. Dugs arent funny, and the TES isnt supposed to be funny. That really breaks the immersion of the actual game if an npc is bumping into a wall because he drank too much skooma and is know seeing pretty colors and unicorns. Some sort of drug should be in the game, but dont go overboard.

Wait wait wait......so your saying that if drugs and alcohol do to you in the game what they would do to you in real life it breaks immersion? And if you live in a world without humor, then, well, you must be very sad :shakehead:

What are you talking about? The Elder Scrolls isn't meant to be funny? The games never orbit around humor but there's always funny little tid-bits here and there.
For example

1.The naked nord barbarians that have been tricked by witches
The nord barbarian in Mournhold who's naked because it's too hot.
2.Uncle Sweet Share
3.The cliff racer song
4.Crassius Curio-he likes to be called uncle <: (
5.creeper and the philosophical alcohol selling talking mudcrab merchant
6.scrolls of incarion flight
7.miaq the liar

And those are just to name a few. That's not even touching on oblivion except for the song.

Indulging in drugs and alcohol is one of the few things that I don't really enjoy in video games, to be honest. Sure, the presence of an addiction can make a character more interesting, but the appeal of experiencing the simulation of the effects of drug use is utterly lost on me. Probably chalk that up to a lack of real-life drug use, I suppose.

Having said that, watching someone play a big, drunken Nord walking right into a dragon nest with nothing but an empty mug in his hands sounds quite hilarious. Though the player being drunk instead of the character is always much more so. :P

The screen and physical effects would be the only part I'd want. In red dead where it's quite humorous attempting to walk around after pounding down 5 shots quick. Maybe add in a little camera shake to show how the character feels.

It really depends on the drugs. If there was a hallucinogenic drug in the game, and it made everything go crazy, yea i would definitely buy into that. But really if this game put real drugs, or drugs similar to those in real life, no dice. It's just a game and surely we can't expect that aspect of real life to be in a game.
