Drunk Effects and Streets

Post » Tue Jan 18, 2011 8:58 pm

A couple of things.

First of all...I'm having all these thoughts about Skyrim like what ifs, what does and wills...anyway...

Do you guys think a drunk effect on your character will be in Skyrim? Similar to GTAIV, except in 1st person as well. I think it would add some excitement to it as well as a challenge. Imagine trying to swing your sword at an enemy and you stab yourself lol...or falling down and rolling down a hill lol.

When I say streets, I mean do you think there will be separate streets in major cities? In most of OBs cities there was one main street with all homes/stores/guilds on it. It'd be cool to travel up and down different streets looking for a certain place.

Thoughts?

You'll have to explain more than "similar to GTAIV" I never played it. It would be cool to see blurred vision (even in third person, can't have switching to third-person meaning you get off easy) and walking in a straight line a little more difficult. Stabbing oneself with a sword is a bit much though, haha, but the damage could be increased and the accuracy made more randomized.

There were a lot of streets in the Imperial City. I don't expect any more or less than that. It IS set to scale, after all.

First off, in GTA IV it was only in 3rd person view but very good drunken effects. Blurred screen, trail vision, character would stagger and sometimes fall down depending on how you moved.

I like the effects of drinking in GTA but it doesn't really fit Skyrim. It will most likely just temporarily affect your skills like in Oblivion. Some extra speech options while drunk would be ace though. Since most of the five major cities will be nearly the same size as the capital of Cyrodiil, yes, I'm expecting them to have multiple streets...

Bethesda won't need to put stumbling and drunken blurred vision into Skyrim as I plan on providing it myself...

I'll just drink when my player drinks, blurred vision doesn't do it for me.

In Oblivion OOO has drunk effects that are very good. And dependent on your character's endurance. So characters with high endurance take more drinks to get drunk.

But it would also be nice to see some drunk NPCs. There are a few in Oblivion. I'd like to see that or more in Skyrim. Maybe schedule dependent, like an NPC at night in a tavern would be drunk but then sober in the morning.

Why do people care so much about getting drunk in this game? Just blurring the screen isn't really that realistic because when you drink in real life that doesn't happen.

I think it would be a cool quest idea to get completely hammered at a certain bar known for their strong drinks. Wake up the next morning with a journal entry mentioning your absolute horrible hangover and not being able to remember the night before. Then you gotta go piece together what happened, whether you got robbed in your sleep(Or wake up with someone you dont remember), someone in the bar was murdered that night, you got robbed, your friend disappeared, whatever. You end up finding out the bartender has been adding something extra to the drinks to get his patrons happy nad drunk and as a result, tip well. After you confront him about what happens, he turns over the "poison recipe to you and you can make potions or apples that instead of killing people like poison apples did in oblivion, temporarily knock em out so you can steal and sneak around. Would also be cool to put on arrows to avoid killing people in thieves guild quests. Id see this as semi random and a surprise kind of like the quest thats in the hotel on the boat in Oblivion that gets hijacked because theres supposedly treasure on board. Idk I might be on the wrong thread for this, I just thought a sleeping potion or the idea of spiked drinks would be fun to play with in stealth.

Would be easy for them to do and would add a lot of immersion for me. I guarantee you that if it is in the game I'm going to have an alcoholic warrior that does EVERYTHING drunk!

Some otherwise reserved NPC races should be more friendly/hostile with their dialogue (i.e. affecting how informative they are to spill the beans) under the influence of alcohol. More verbose Bretons and Redguards, zanier Bosmers, way trippier/incoherently speaking Khajiit (touched by the demi-god M'aiq, they say), more approachable Argonians and Dunmers (though the latter are very prone to unprecedented mood swings), less gruff Orcs, less boring Imperial...

But an average Altmer sees no reason to get any higher with alcohol.

I like just the decrease in intelligence or agility or whatever. blurred vision and stumbling is just annoying IMO. it's pretty hard to capture the feeling of being drunk in a videogame. The best thing to do is to get drunk and THEN play the videogame if you want that feeling... if you are 21 or over.

Yes..luckily I'll be turning 21 in August so I can't wait to just chill in my room, drinkin' all night and waking up and forgetting what I did in Skyrim.

I like the drunk effect in RDR, it's exaggerated how the character goes from perfectly fine to pretty much unable to walk but it's still funny to play around with the physics.
