Dual Casting (Perk) - Bug or feature?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:07 am

I tested the dual casting perk with interesting result.

I used the Lightning spell with two hands without the Perk, casting it on an friendly NPC. Than reload, take the perk and repeat. The damage was exactly the same. But more interesting: With the Perk, the powered spells cost around 50% more magicka.
Don't know if that is a bug and will be fixed. I hope. It would be ridiculous if that is working as intended.

I already found it wierd that dualcasting costed so much mana and didnt seem to do anny relevant damage increases. You might be on to something!

I hope that's not the case.

However, the main advantage for me to dual casting is stagger locking single opponents.

Has this been confirmed as a bug? Looks I'll be using my left hand for something else from now on ;)

It's still worth it for Destruction for Impact...

Is it really worth, 2 perks and 50% more magicka costs?
What about the other magic schools?

If dual casting is increasing mana cost instead of damage that explains a lot of destruction complaints.

Has anyone tested the +damage perks?

is that true? cause I already wondered why my spells feels so....uhm low damage? I'm nearly pure on a destruction path, when I throw 2 Firebolts it's the same damage like using 1 dual firebolt O.o just haven't thought about it...

I find the dual casting route to be helpfull, having now got the Impact perk. That extra bit of restbite & kiting time to put space between me & them as enemies stagger is a life saver at times.

However, i havent looked into that the dual cast uses allot more magicka, i'd assume that dual cast, powering up the spell, would simply mean that the magicka would add togher for the cost of 2 seperate spells(possibly with a little added).

I thought so... When i dual cast 2 of the same spell, i dont get any 'overcharge' effect, but if i use 2 different spells it does more damage.... Drains alot of mana.

Check into your Destruction Perks Bethesda~

I think there are definitely tons of issues with this game

Someone was saying earlier about how magicka isn't regenerating properly when fighting and I'm not sure the oakflesh perks are working properly either

I was experimenting with this last night, and indeed you get more bang for buck if you dual cast as separate spells. So if it's flames, then you press both mouse buttons, but just leave enough time to stop it turning into 'super' flames.

It's not great, but then remember in Oblivion, you had restoration spells that cost more but actually delivered less per mana point. It's a bit like how it's more cost effective to trade 10 pairs of boots that weigh 1 for 100 gold, than it is to keep hold of a magic sword that weighs 20 for 100 gold.

It does not do the same damage, but just slightly more:

Seperate "Double handed" casting = 2x damage for 2x magicka
Dual-casting = 2.1x damage for 2.5x magicka

Keep in mind that dual-casting can also cause stagger with impact perk.

Now where dual-casting (and augmentation perks) fail are with the elemental runes and cloaks. 2.5x magicka for the exact same effect. (This makes me a sad panda @_@). It's clear that this game is another 4 months from completion, but they just had to release on the last binary day of the century...

1 hand spell that does 10 dmg for 10 mana
use it in 2 hands for 20 dmg and 20 mana cost
dualcast it for 22 dmg and 22 mana cost

The spell does the same amount of damage and takes the same amount of mana like normal spells. The only benefit of dualcast is that for timed things it will double + 10% bonus the time you summon your things and for damage spells it staggers enemies if you perked it ( if you didnt its a useles 1 perk waste )

It's more like
1 hand spell that does 10 dmg for 10 mana
use it in 2 hands for 20 dmg and 20 mana cost
dualcast it for 22 dmg and 30 mana cost

Just enchant your gear and become a 0 mana user in two spell trees and it wont bother you anymore, We just perk dualcast for the more epic animation :flamethrower: and getting the stagnating perk in destruction tree.

Ok his may be a simple fix I don't know. I play ps3 and I noticed if i don't press the L1 and R1 buttons at the exact same time I do not dual cast. I still shoot magic out of both hands but they are not really combined. I have to press the buttons at the exact same time for it to dual fast.
